Chapter 324: I’ll Behave

With Dan having already confirmed that the Balon they were after was indeed Edward and he was currently nowhere to be found at this rate, Raine immediately decided that it would be best for her to stay with Cali while his men tracked down the mutant in question. That monster was definitely just waiting for the right time to move. He wouldn’t leave them alone till he finally got his prey with him.

Outside the house, Raine quickly dialed Xander’s number, who had just arrived recently with his wife Yera to celebrate a small reunion with Rui and Cali. The two had finally reconciled because of her help in pushing Cali to her limits, with the amnesiac finally realizing just what exactly she felt for Rui.

Ringing her phone, Raine burst out with enthusiasm as soon as Xander answered her call. "Hey, tell Rui to treat me to a nice meal. I’ve solved the case already, and I’ve pretty much nabbed the culprit." She paused for a brief second, then she suddenly backtracked, "Oh, wait... Don’t tell him. I’ll personally come there to break the news to him and join you guys for dinner."

With Xander also being like Rui in that Raine loved to tease them both, she seductively finished off with a small chuckle. "Also... I miss you a lot too, Dr. Xander."

That was when she ended the call. Chuckling to herself, she was sure that Xander was already in a cold sweat by now.

Excitedly, Raine continued on with making her way toward Rui’s house with her baggage still in hand. Reaching her destination, she immediately pressed the doorbell to make her presence known. A few seconds later, it was Rui’s servant who opened the door for her. Nodding at the servant, Raine let herself in and casually left her baggage down in the living room. From there, the servant led her to the dining area where everyone was already seated and waiting for her.

"Wow, I’m starving," Raine said as her eyes drooled at the sight of the feast laid out on the table.

Not bothering with pleasantries, s he immediately sat directly on a chair close to Xander. Just as quickly, the latter suddenly stood up from his seat, scurrying away to sit near where his possessive wife was currently seated.

Shrugging, Raine simply ignored the awkward ambiance before her as she continued to drool at the meals before her without a care for her surroundings. She was really starving already, and her previous argument with Nathan left little to sate her appetite as she left him. Thankfully, she was going to eat now, and she didn’t mind the possessive wives around her currently conspiring against her. Likewise, the cowardly husbands clearly didn’t want trouble with their wives by having her presence there.

With a deep breath, Xander opened his mouth to ask her what happened, but Raine simply raised her hand and said, "No talking while I eat. I’m gonna start eating now, and whoever talks in between... will face my wrath!!"

Xander instantly closed his mouth after that, swallowing his words back down his throat knowing how scary Raine could be whenever she was in a foul mood.

With Raine busy eating, there was only silence throughout Rui’s long table as everyone watched her eat like she had been starving for months.

A few moments later... Raine had finally finished eating, gulping down several glasses of water before she looked at Rui. Slowly, she said, "Edward... It was Edward..."

"What?!" Both Cali and Rui yelled out in chorus. They couldn’t hide the shock from their faces as they took in the news.

"Yeah... Don’t worry. He won’t be a danger to you two anymore, seeing as I’ve already taken care of him." Raine reassured Cali. Of course, that was a lie, but it was better to placate the woman’s fears. She then turned her head to look at Rui and innocently asked, "Do you have a spare room for me to sleep in?"

"What?!" This time, it was the two men that had yelled out in chorus, a look of shock plastered on both of their faces as they gawked at her.

"What? Are you two deaf?" Raine impatiently grunted, making Rui and Xander both shut their mouths to avoid annoying her. Ah, she loved how these two men easily folded before her advances.

Defeated, Rui cleared his throat as he responded. "Yes, I have one room..." he said. "I’ll have it ready for you for the night."

Raine lifted her eyebrows as she murmured, "I’m not staying for one night only though. You owe me, you know..." She giggled, "I don’t want to return to Country V yet, so let me hide out in here for a while."

"What’s going on?" Xander asked with kniited brows. "Is there a problem?"

Raine pouted as she looked at both Yera and Cali as she mumbled, "Please let me stay in your house for now. I promise I’ll behave, and I will definitely not crawl on either of your men’s beds during the night..."

Cali’s face reddened at her suggestion, while Yera ended up bursting out into a fit of laughter. Yera was already used to her playful personality and language, so her playful teasing was nothing new to her. The latter just knew that she was always like that. She knew that Raine loved to act like she was an antagonist in movies sometimes, but in reality, she was of course a woman with a heart of gold.

"Candice... You have dens all over the world! What is wrong with you?" Xander chided. "Can’t you see that we’re both couples staying here? Couples that might want some privacy?"

"But this is the only place that he can’t enter...," Raine regretfully murmured, doing her best to act pitiful as she drooped her shoulders. "Anyway, it’s okay if you don’t want me to stay here. I’ll probably just look for a more suitable place to crash and hide in..."

Seeing her acting, Yera chuckled, "I’m sure Rui and Cali won’t mind you staying here for a few days."

"Yeah, it’s okay. Besides, you helped us out, although I’m still a bit confused about what is going on," Cali hesitantly agreed. "I’m in awe, to be honest. Why would Edward do this? Was it because I rejected him?"

"Hmm, no, it wasn’t about that, but it’s quite a complicated story," Raine nonchalantly explained. "I’ve heard that it isn’t good for you to think too much about it, so I suggest that you just ignore him. Really Edward’s already in custody, and that’s exactly where he belongs. It’s not about you rejecting him. He’s just a psycho."

From there, the evening went all according to Raine’s plan. Reaching the room that Rui provided for her, she sighed. She really needed to talk to Cali and stay by her side. As such, Raine grabbed a pillow and walked towards the door.
