Chapter 313: Dig up Some Dirt (1)
At Convel Society
There was something that was supposed to happen today... Or so Nathan thought as he sat down with Davin within the privacy of his room. He probably should’ve used the secret room for this, but with their plan already brewing, there was no need for all the pomp and the subterfuge that they usually did whenever they talked about deeds that were rather on the dirty side of the business spectrum.
"So, we’re going to do this, right?" Davin asked, the clinical silence in the room being broken for the first time in over an hour.
"Hopefully soon," Nathan nodded, carefully choosing his words as he relaxed into his chair. "If everything goes according to plan, then things should start moving in a day or so."
It was unfortunate that it couldn’t happen sooner. As in, hours later, sooner. While the plan was already in motion, his reaction to the Emergency Meeting somehow forced them to delay their operation by about a day or so. Thankfully, Boris’s trial was somehow being stalled into oblivion by their lawyers talking in circles, but that didn’t mean that they could waste their time preparing for a perfect opportunity that would never come.
So instead, they had to force the issue and make the window of opportunity that they needed themselves.
"Is this really going to work?" Davin asked once more, his voice echoing against the walls of the office. "We’re going to somehow manage to pull this off?"
"It will," Nathan reassured him. "We’ll just have to wait."
And wait they did. Thankfully, the plan was rather easy. Boris just had to goad Danos into blabbing his mouth off, from there, one of their men would spike the Elder’s drink with a powerful sedative. They’ll then tail the Elder until he finally took a sip of his drink, then cart him off to a secluded area where Nathan would do his thing.
Granted, it was easier said than done. The plan was rather haphazardly put together, which was evident based on the lack of a backup plan in case Danos didn’t want to drink his usual stuff that day. Or maybe their inside man would get caught in the act, or they simply just ran out of time before Boris’s trial came to an end. All in all, the gamble they were prepared to do was-
*knock! knock!*
The sudden sound of his door being opened crashed against Nathan’s train of thought. Standing up, he couldn’t help but gawk at the sight in front of him.
"I got him!" Boris up and declared, his face beet red as he carried a clearly inebriated Danos in his arms. The Elder’s head lolled back and forth in clear confusion, his eyes practically rolling along like the ocean waves as he hung defeated. "W-What do we do next!?"
The silence that followed suit was what came next. The sheer incredulity of the sight before them was so bizarre that it took a full minute before Davin and Nathan regained their wits to them.
"Uh... I thought you said the plan wouldn’t happen till tomorrow," Davin voiced out, his confusion evident in his tone.
"I did," Nathan frowned, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose as he sighed. "Then again, we did wish for this to happen sooner rather than later."
"Uhm... My King?"
Instead of answering the question, Nathan grumbled as he replied to Boris with a question of his own. "Boris, can you tell me just how exactly this all happened? I thought we all agreed to make this happen tomorrow?"
"Well, you did also say that we should take any opportunity that we can get to speed things along," Boris sheepishly defended himself, his speech somewhat slurred as he explained. "I saw Danos here drinking and gloating with some of his men, and managed to make him agree to have a drinking contest with me... It took everything in my power not to kill him right then and there though..."
Nathan and Davin blinked at what they just heard. Clearly, the world was going to end if that was the explanation that they were being fed by someone that was clearly drunk out of his mind.
"Boris, did you at least make sure that you weren’t followed?" Davin cautiously asked.
"Huh?! I drank them all under the table!" Boris proudly declared. "And we were drinking just by lounge anyway..."
"Okay then..." Davin casually spoke out, his disbelief still in his tone as he turned to Nathan. "So I guess we should do what we planned to do then?"
"First off, what did you even tell them?" Nathan asked. "Surely there were witnesses on your way here."
"I just told them that I’m getting good-old Danos here back to his room," Boris scoffed aloud. "They believed me, then we carried on our merry way."
Nathan opened his mouth to say something, only for him to close them as he took another look at the two clearly drunk men in front of him. Clearly, any witnesses that might’ve seen them were intimidated by Boris’s careless gait as opposed to actually believing the man. Then again, anybody in the know would realize that the two hated each other’s guts. Hell, they were even battling it out in a trial for days now.
"Davin, can you go and tell Aspen to run a clean-up duty after our good friend here?" Nathan ordered. "Since we’re already here, we might as well go all the way."
"Got it," Davin nodded.
"And as for you, Boris, can you prop Danos up and keep his head steady?" Nathan asked as opposed to ordering. "Seeing as you can still stand, surely you can still keep him still enough for me to work."
"S-Sure thing, My king."
Preparing himself mentally, Nathan took a deep breath as he momentarily turned around. Using the Voyager’s Watch still took a decent amount out of him. And even with his target practically insensate, he still couldn’t let his guard down while doing this.
"All set."
Turning back around, Nathan was more than ready when he couldn’t help but notice the way Boris was holding Danos in place. He was quite literally holding him up by the head, his hands on either side of the Elder’s face as he grinned behind him.
"Really, Boris?"
"He won’t feel a thing, I’m sure," Boris grinned.
Shrugging, Nathan went ahead and used the Watch on the Elder. Time to see if he could dig up some dirt that they could use to tear his case apart.
