Chapter 312: Scolded
Chapter 312: Scolded
It was already evening when Raine and her father arrived at Country A. From the airport, Chad’s security then led them to their car, where some of her men were already waiting for her to arrive.
"Boss," Dan, who she had tasked to look after Rui’s case, politely greeted her as he opened the car door for her.
Giving the man a nod of appreciation, Raine entered the backseat with her father. Dan then entered the car himself before he handed to her a tablet. "Everything has been arranged according to King Nathan’s instruction," he concisely reported. "You’ll be one of the university’s professors, Dr. Candice Yao, handling one of the subjects of Cali’s class."
"Hmm, interesting," Raine excitedly nodded. "I’ll be going over this tonight then. I want to start attending my classes as soon as tomorrow."
Raine grinned as the car began to move. She couldn’t wait to see the look on Rui’s face once he saw her.

It took them almost an hour before the car arrived at their destination. According to Dan, Nathan had instructed him to furnish a house for her and her father to stay in near Rui’s place. "We’re also nearby to monitor the situation," Dan added.
"Alright then. Send me all the reports," Raine promptly instructed. "I want every single detail on the current progress of the hunt."
"Copy that, Boss."
After entering their new house, Raine asked Dan to call for food delivery for her and her father. She then soon dismissed the man once everything had been settled.
"Do you like our new place, Dad?" Raine asked as she toured the inside of the house.
"It’s nice," Lark commented.
"It is, isn’t it? Your son-in-law is very thoughtful. He made sure that I’ll enjoy my stay here so much that it’ll feel like a vacation," Raine beamed as she talked to her father.
"We have almost everything here. And I bet the outside garden would also look perfect under the sun. Well, it already looks nice enough from the lights alone"
Looking out from the balcony, the house sported a swimming pool in the backyard. It was also located on a hill, giving it a very cozy and cool ambiance. She already couldn’t wait to see the beautiful scenery around her once morning came.
After some time, their delivery came knocking. Grabbing their food, her father had been the one who arranged their food on the table. Like usual, he was very attentive to Raine, but he was still devoid of all emotion...
He looked more like he was simply doing a job that he had to do. By the sidelines, Raine let out a long deep sigh as she watched her father move and talk like an unfeeling puppet.
"Let’s eat," she simply said with a smile. With her father sitting beside her, she took the initiative to put some food on his plate as she said, "Here, you eat these mushrooms since I don’t like them."
He frowned at her gesture, so Raine promptly asked, "What’s wrong?"
"I don’t like them too..." he plainly answered.
"What if I tell you to eat them even if you don’t like them?" she curiously asked. "Will you still eat them?"
"Yes."
"Eat them all then," she quickly replied.
Unblinking, Lark simply nodded and was even about to place one on his fork and eat it, but Raine immediately stopped him from doing so. "Seriously, Dad?" she sighed. "If you don’t want to eat or do things, then you don’t have to do so. Is that understood?"
Lark nodded once again, making Raine helplessly shrug her shoulders at what she got as a reply. "Let’s just eat," Raine murmured as she rolled her eyes. "Goodness... Just eat whenever you’re hungry even if you’re with me."
"Alright," Lask answered before he started eating.
Watching him eat, Raine smiled as she saw how he was removing the mushrooms from his meal. Who would’ve thought that she and her father had the same hatred against mushrooms? Seeing it happening in front of her made her want to find out even more about him.
"By the way, I’ll be starting my mission tomorrow," Raine casually converesed. "You’re also a part of it, and you’re enrolled as a student there so that you can freely roam inside the school and do whatever you pleased while I play around with Rui and his wife..."
"I need to look after you," Lark promptly said as he turned to look at her.
"Just do whatever you want, but remain in the shadows for as much as possible, Dad," Raine reminded him, and the latter simply nodded.
Some time passed after that, with the two of them simply eating in each other’s company
"Oh shoot!" Raine suddenly exclaimed. Having remembered that she had forgotten to call Nathan, she quickly grabbed her phone and dialed her husband’s name for a video call. One ring later, and Nathan’s face quickly popped up on the screen.
"Darling!" Raine cheered as soon as she saw him. The time at Country D was five hours ahead of Country A. It was seven in the evening where they were currently, while it was already midnight at Nathan’s place.
"Did I wake you up?" she apologetically asked. Nathan was obviously already on his bed, and she bet she had just woken him up based on how dreamy his eyes looked.
"No, you didn’t, my sweet vixen," Nathan sheepishly said with a smile. "Dan just reported to me that you’re currently safe at home, but I was still waiting for your call to come."
"Sorry, I’m a bit late," Raine chuckled out her apology. She then grinned as she quickly added, "But anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I love you. You can go back to sleep now while I continue eating dinner with Dad."
She was about to hang up when Nathan suddenly chimed up. "Where’s my kiss?"
Raine chuckled at her husband’s words. She didn’t expect him to even ask for such a thing. Nevertheless, she gave him his kiss, and he gave her a smacking kiss in return to the camera. "I love you, Raine, and make sure you’ll be extra careful. I will call you whenever I have the time."
The call soon ended, and Raine went back to her seat without much trouble.
"It isn’t good to keep food waiting. It’ll get cold," Lark suddenly said with a blank expression on his face.
Raine stared at him in disbelief, before a precious smile carved itself onto her lips as she said, "Sorry, Dad. I won’t do that again."
Raine chuckled. Although it was still devoid of emotion, she liked the fact that her father had just seemingly scolded her. She wouldn’t mind getting scolded like that every once in a while.
She took a spoonful of soup and then looked at Lark with a pout and said, "It’s still warm though." She then diverted the topic with a question."Tell me, Dad, do you know how to cook?"
It was a genuine curiosity. Lark had lived in the shadows all his life, doing all the dirty work for Marcus for years before it all ended. Knowing that Raine wondered exactly how he lived like that for all these years.
"What do you want to eat, Raine? I will prepare it for you," Lark promptly answered.
Raine’s eyes shimmered at the offer before she then started mentioning everything she wanted to eat to her father. She felt so ecstatic to have this kind of opportunity with her father. Hopefully, her sister would soon be with them like this.
