Chapter 294: Take Things Slow

Like Raine expected, Nathan was no longer beside her when she woke up the next morning. Well, it was already noon really, Which meant that she slept too much again.

"I can’t believe I slept for that long," she murmured as she slowly raised her body to get out of bed. Sitting up, she sighed as she found herself caressing her tummy.

"I’m supposed to get revenge for Father Marcus against that Sasha. But I guess, becoming pregnant like this with you is a sign that I shouldn’t dwell too much on revenge anymore, Aire," Raine mumbled aloud, followed up with a sigh. "This thing will be a nonstop cycle of negativity if I pursued it further."

Sighing to herself, she felt particularly lonely thinking about how she was unable to even see Nathan before he left. "I think my mood’s a sign of my pregnancy kicking in," she reasoned to herself. She felt lonely waking up alone, but she understood Nathan’s crucial role in the situation at this point. She shouldn’t even expect to see her mate every day in the Moon Clan Territory anyway.

It was rather uncomfortable. She knew she wasn’t the clingy type of person, but she could only guess that her pregnancy was the culprit for her current emotional distress. She then heard her stomach grumble, making her chuckle at the slight levity of the situation. "Alright. Let’s grab something to eat first."

Standing up, Raine suddenly felt herself to be in such a good mood that she even hummed on her way out of her room. Walking straight to the kitchen, she smiled as grabbed her brunch from their resident chef, eating heartily at the kitchen counter. Afterward, she then met up with Levi and Mia, who were busy organizing another party, her wedding day tomorrow, at the mansion. From there, there was nothing much for Raine to do other than to observe her men by the sidelines getting busy.

Lazing around, she practically spent her day doing nothing except eating and taking a nap every once in a while.

That all changed when something different happened. She was watching the news when she received a call from Ms. Kiera Chan; the woman who was generous enough to take her twin sister Mara under their wing as her own sister.

Raine bit her lower lip. It had been a while since she last entertained a call from the woman, and that was a long time ago when they requested for her to send a DNA sample to could check if she and Mara were truly related.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Hello, Ms. Candice," the woman on the other line greeted.

The call happened, and as Raine expected, it was another request for Mara to meet up with her. It was understandable that they couldn’t find her whereabouts just yet, leading them to actually call her in the first place...

’It’s been a while since someone called me Candice though,’ Raine wrily thought.

"I’ll meet up with her soon then, Ms. Kiera," Raine nodded to the call. "And please tell Mara that I’ll contact her soon. I just need to wrap up a few things on my end."

Another sigh came out of her mouth as soon as she ended the call. She was honestly feeling nervous about meeting her twin. She didn’t know how she’d react once she finally met her twin. And the worst part was that she didn’t even know where to start in trying to explain the whole situation to her sister... about her connection to the Moon Clan and the Mirage Group.

Just thinking about it all was already making her head spin. It was a lot of things to process, not to mention their true origins as well as their involvement with the supernatural, something that not all humans were aware truly existed.

Humming to herself, Raine contemplated whether or not to even disclose such a confidential thing to her twin sister. In the back of her head, she was somewhat hoping that Chad would do the exposition instead of her. But regardless, she was also aware that Mara had the right to know about these things.

Although she wasn’t meeting with her twin, that didn’t mean that she wasn’t looking after Mara from the shadows. She was aware of her twin’s whereabouts, and especially her involvement with Chad, the King of Earth Clan and the soon-to-be President of their country... well, hopefully. She had the perception that Chad would also keep Mara in the dark pertaining to the Mirage Group, however.

"I’ll try and balance things out first," Raine murmured as she got up from her seat. "We can take things slow."

Letting out a breath, she walked straight to the control room to talk to Mia and Levi about her plans for handling the situation in Country A. Without so much as a warning, she barged her way inside, her head tilted off to the side upon seeing the panicked look on the two people currently inside the room. It was a rather peculiar sight: Levi’s butt was on the floor, while Mia’s face was beet red in embarrassment.

"This feels like deja vu," Raine nonchalantly commented, recalling how she had also caught Boris and Lyne in a similar situation. Shrugging, she comfortably grabbed a swivel chair from the side and sat down. From there, she murmured, "Next time, lock the door if you two want to have some privacy."

Levi coughed at the advice, while Mia’s face lost all its color.

"It’s not what you think!" Mia quickly defended, still blushing.

"Hmm, what I think is that you two were making out before I got here," Raine teased, enjoying the two love birds’ blushing faces. "Anyway, I just came here just to tell you two to make the necessary arrangements for a journey to Country A. I’ll personally handle Rui and Cali’s case, and I’ll be going together with my father Lark..."

"But you’re pregnant," Mia pointed out.

"I’m bored, is what I am," Raine scoffed. "I’ll just be monitoring the situation, not working out in the field. Besides, I have a feeling that I’ll only get more annoyed the more that I can’t see Nathan. So it’s better that I keep myself occupied rather than trying to kill time inside this mansion. That would be unbearable, and you guys will shoulder the impact of my mood swings. Would you two like that?" she asked with a mischievous smile.

Knowing her look, the two gulped as they quickly answered, "We’ll prepare everything you might need."

"Good..." she nodded with a teasing smile as she stood up. "I’ll be leaving now. You two may continue with whatever it was you two were doing. Just make sure to lock the door this time."

"Boss... It’s really not what you think," Mia defended with a blush.

Raine simply chuckled as she walked out of the door. Shrugging, a sudden thought came to her.

"Right... Nathan doesn’t approve of it yet..." she mumbled, recalling how her mate seemed adamant against her suggestion of leaving the country. She snorted with a sigh, "It’s not like he’ll have enough time to spend with me anyway..."

She was determined to leave, preferably as soon as possible instead of simply staying in the mansion and rotting away from her own boredom.
