Chapter 295: Alpha of the Night Crawler Pack

At Convel Society

Boris’s case was reopened as planned, and today was the day that his trial commenced inside the Court of Justice within the Convel Society Territory. And unlike the first trial where Boris was caught off-guard and unprepared, he was fully confident knowing how much they’ve perfectly prepared for this.

Currently, he had enough evidence that, with King Nathan’s help, they’ve successfully gathered all together as they promised. And looking back, Boris couldn’t help but admit how incapable he was about all this stuff before even if he was an Alpha of his own pack. Unfortunately, his impulsiveness and ignorance led his enemy Danos to succeed in making him fall on his own.

"Your Honor, here is the evidence that my client is not guilty of the charges pressed upon him before," his attorney, someone from the King’s Blue Moon pack, defended. "Looking them over, you will see the difference. These are all authenticated copies..."

Watching the proceedings, Boris couldn’t help the smirk forming on his face as he saw how much Danos’s face had paled as the trial continued. The man clearly didn’t expect that he would have a full-throttled counter such as this, seeing as King Nathan had made sure that their investigation of his case would be nothing if not confidential.

They had intentionally made themselves sloppy with their acting and performance, so much so that everyone thought that Boris was acting out of his own accord in gathering enough evidence for his coming trial.

’Serves you right!’ Boris inwardly sniggered with gritted teeth. ’You were just lucky enough that you cleaned up your own mess so perfectly that we were unable to drag your name through all of this!’

Still, despite all of their efforts, they all couldn’t deny that Danos was still a powerful enemy who could manipulate a lot of things to his own advantage. However, their King Nathan was patient enough to poise a strike, and Boris trusted him more than ever knowing that his king had a plan cooking up to permanently bring Danos down.

’There will be no better man than him.’ Boris thought.

He was honestly not happy that Nathan wanted to abdicate the throne. He was a good ruler, so it would be a pity that he had to let the Convel Society go. But then, he still had to respect their current King’s decision, knowing that it would be for the best for him to choose one group over the other. It just so happened that he chose to rule the Moon Clan of the Mirage Group instead of them.

"This also proves that my client is not the criminal who killed these innocent people all these years ago," his attorney fired out, making Boris snap himself back to reality. With a credible and honest lawyer now defending him, he was sure that the ruling would be in favor of him just as they predicted.

Still, he couldn’t help but worry despite knowing that his victory was absolute. He clenched his jaw, recalling how he was manipulated before. Even the attorney from his pack, one who he thought could be trusted, ended up being one of Danos’s pawns in the end.

Back to the trial, his eyes particularly darted towards Danos’s direction. Glaring at him, the man was sitting amongst the audience, and Boris could bet that the asshole was feeling more than a bit of turmoil right now.

His glare was sharp, sending a silent message to him... ’I’ll make sure that I’ll kick you out of my pack as an Elder as soon as come back.’

Boris remained in the courtroom, and the trial went on till noon before the judge dismissed them all to resume the proceedings tomorrow. Slowly, they all filed out of the courtroom, Boris feeling rather victorious all things considered.

Walking outside the courtroom, Boris saw Danos approaching him. The man stopped in front of him, a sneer on his face as he mocked, "Do you honestly think I’ll let you have a peaceful return to our pack? Think again, Boris, because you might just regret setting foot back in our territory. Remember, the next time you have to fall... it will be for good."

Gritting his teeth, Boris controlled his anger. It was one of the few things King Nathan had him trained for... to control his emotions, especially in front of his enemy.

"Elder Danos, you’re breaking my heart here," Boris joked, his smile a facade as he continued. "Aren’t you glad to see me back? I’m sure the two of us will get along nicely once I get my position back as the Alpha of the Night Crawler pack. It’s the least I can do for my deceased parents, who maintained the position of our clan since society even began."

He then patted Danos by the shoulder and gave it a tight squeeze as he added, "A week from now, you should advise Rufus to vacate my residence."

Not even letting the man speak, Boris left the Elder victorious, the latter practically glowing red with obvious fury at his rebuttals. Boris held his smirk before he dropped it in favor of a smile at his friend Aspen, who was already waiting for him by the exit of the justice hall’s court.

"I assume all went well today?" Aspen inquired.

"Too early for victory though," Boris pointed out with a sigh. "I won’t feel at ease till I hear that not-guilty verdict." He then asked back, "How about you? Are you ready to wear the crown?"

After all, if King Nathan would abdicate the throne, then there was really nobody else fit to replace him but Aspen. However, as Nathan had mentioned, the only problem with his potential replacement was his hesitation, and a king must not have those kinds of feelings in order to rule effectively.

Well, Boris kind of also wanted the position, but he knew that his wisdom was very limited. He had strength, yes, but strength was not the only thing needed for the throne... Aspen, like his cousin Nathan, had both strength and wisdom. And again, the only thing lacking in him was the determination and will to do so...

"Goodness... At this rate, with everybody piling on the pressure with you as the latest addition... I feel like I really have no choice but to do it," Aspen complained with a reluctant frown.

"Alright, fine. I won’t ask you about it if you promise that we’ll hurry up with our task today," Boris chuckled. "You see, I need to at least spend dinner with my mate. And if you help me finish this early before dinner, then I won’t torture you about the throne."

Aspen shook his head. "I would rather have you torture me with the throne topic than to have you make me do all the work just because you need to hurry and meet your mate," he sighed. "Be considerate, will you? It’s not like you’re the only one struggling in wooing their mate!"

Boris’s eyes widened at the vitriolic response. "Woah, are you toughening out now, Aspen?" he asked aloud. "Do you mean to say that you’ve already approached your mate Crissa? I mean, she’s Decan’s daughter... Did you happen to tell him already about it? And he agreed?!"

Aspen walked past him, simply ignoring the rows of questions he just fired at him.

"Hey! Tell me!" Boris yelled as he ran after Aspen, who had already started running on his way to the King’s Hall.
