Chapter 269: Stake my claim

At the Convel Territory.

Going on ahead with her own plans, Raine didn’t even bother with making her presence a secret as she drove straight into the Convel Society Territory with Lyne in tow. And surprisingly enough, things were smooth sailing for the first few minutes that they spent making their way through enemy territory.

That was until they finally went past the main gate.

"Huh," Raine shrugged as she scoffed, eyeing the sizeable number of werewolves surrounding their car. "I guess Boris can’t do anything beyond letting us enter the main gate."

"He already did more than what he can realistically risk," Lyne muttered beside her. "He’s still technically an exile, but that’s hopefully about to change with Nathan in charge."

"I see," Raine chuckled, her eyes lackadaisically roaming the surrounding enemies swarming their position. "Well, at least we don’t have to waste a perfectly good car ramming the gate down."

"I suppose so, Boss."

The Moon Clan Princess simply let off a smile as she turned off her engines. Seeing as they couldn’t exactly just kill anyone anymore without inciting a return to hostilities, she put on her best grin as she unlocked her door.

"You can wait here for a bit, Lyne," she smirked as she pushed the door open. "Unless, of course, you want to tag along with me doing something that might very well get us killed?"

Looking up to her, Lyne gave her an accepting nod as she undid her seatbelt. "I can’t just let you walk in there all alone now, can’t I. It wouldn’t sit well with me."

"That, and you might be able to see Boris, no?" Raine chuckled.

"That... could be a possibility," Lyne vaguely replied. "I wouldn’t be opposed to having another talk with him."

Raine could only shake her head in mirth, still somehow ignoring the aggressive growling and mumbling all around them. "Well, let’s face the music then."

Finally getting out of the car, the two stood side by side as they faced the collective might of a hostile Convel Society. A few familiar faces stood out in particular, but she didn’t care with calling them out at the moment as she focus more on the showboating that she was about to unleash.

"Attention one and all," Raine began, daintily walking forward with an exaggerated swagger of a confident woman. "As you all might already know, I am Raine Yue of the Moon Clan, and I’ve come to make an announcement."

At the sound of her voice, a few of the werewolves in front seemingly backed off. She smirked at the sight of them. They probably knew that the risks of killing a being such as her would have dire consequences to their continued existence in the world of the living.

"First off, I’m here to call out the cowardice of the Convel Society."

Predictably, an uproar swiftly swelled up to meet her accusations. Raine already expected this, however, and she swiftly put her foot down to quell the mob. A brief shockwave swept throughout the area, the force of her kick seemingly kicking up dust as silence reigned once more.

"As I was saying," Raine smirked as she cleared her throat to assert dominance. "The Convel Society has shown that it isn’t averse to stabbing someone in the back. While I’m sure that King Nathan wouldn’t approve of such a move, there are some here that didn’t even hesitate to do such a thing."

A few mumbles spread throughout the crowd, and Raine smirked at the amount of control she had throughout the crowd. Swiftly, her eyes focused on a familiar face, one that she just wanted to grind into dust if it weren’t for her self-restraint.

"Namely, I’d like to bring up the one person that did it," Raine declared, training her sights at Sasha. "I won’t say your name, seeing as I’m looking right at you."

Her actions had the desired effect. Almost immediately, the crowd parted ever so slowly, revealing a snarling Sasha as she strode forward.

"What’re you doing here, bitch?" the Alpha snarled at her. "How dare you show your face here after what you did."

"What I did?" Raine feigned innocence as she smirked. "I haven’t done anything. If anything, it’s your King that did the deed."

Sasha growled in fury, her fists clenching tightly as she spoke, "Why are you here?"

Hearing the one question that she wanted to hear, Raine scoffed, "Why, I’m here to expose you for the coward you are. And on top of that, I’m here to stake my claim as the Queen of this place."

At her words, the crowd exploded into a hive of activity. The Princess was sure that they already had an idea about what she was saying. All she had to do was seal the deal, all while humiliating the broad in front of her.

"You dare..." Sasha grumbled.

"Oh, I very much dare," Raine menacingly smiled at her. "Unlike someone here, I don’t skulk in the shadows and let others do my dirty work."

"Wha-"

Before Sasha could even speak, Raine closed the gap between them. She didn’t do anything, of course, but she leaned her lips near the woman’s ear as she whispered. "You know very well that you got away with murder. Don’t worry though. You’ll pay your dues some time in the future. Of that, I can assure you."

With the Alpha stunned, Raine returned to Lyne’s side as she yelled out loud. "And with that, I’ve officially said my piece. I wouldn’t be remiss to think that you all might disagree, but with your King choosing me as his mate, you all have no other choice but to regard me as such."

Another set of mumbles echoed forth. This time, they were a lot more subdued than the first ones she encountered earlier. Raine let out a mental sigh of victory.

"Well, that was easier than I thought," she shrugged to herself, only to turn around as a newcomer suddenly barged in through the front gate.
