Chapter 270: Keep Me
Chapter 270: Keep Me
Looking back, Raine was surprised to see that it was Nathan who had arrived on the scene.
"My King! Thank heavens you’re back!" Sasha cried out, making her way to the front to greet her King. "There’s an intruder present, and she must be arrested! We can’t erase the fact that she attacked our territory first and caused chaos!"
Raine’s face flinched at the sight. Keeping her composure, she flashed a taunting smirk as she said, "I guess we can call it even then? You succeeded in launching a counterattack on our territory, and you all even managed to kill the King of the Moon Clan." She then kept her pace as she moved closer. "And that’s not to mention the finalization of the peace treaty. So here I am, claiming my right as your Queen in recompense."
Letting a devious smile, Raine couldn’t help but saunter around Sasha as she flaunted her moral victory. With a raised brow, she added, "If I were you... I’d be exercising the proper ways of paying respect to your Queen. I can’t promise that I’ll be as lenient as he is toward those who would mess with me, you know."
Sasha growled at the woman smugly grinning at her. Immediately, she positioned herself behind Nathan and barked out, "My King! Look at the audacity of this bitch! How could she be a Queen when she’s an outsider?! And above all, she’s the daughter of Marcus! The man who was hellbent on killing our kind!"
Hearing her valid points, the audience around them was set abuzz with conversations. Despite hearing some opposition, however, Raine kept her composure in check. She even gave them all a sweet smile as she said, "Ah, I guess you haven’t heard the news? Apparently, I’m not King Marcus’s real daughter." She gloated the fact, raising her shoulders as she shrugged, "I’m apparently a Princess from the Sun Clan, the daughter of Prince Lark Tai from Ava, the fallen angel that King Arthur took under his wing."
"W-What!?"
"I guess that’s enough to clarify the issue?" Raine kept on going, ignoring the burning curiosity from those around her. "Let it be known to all of the Convel Society that I, Raine Yue, will not bring harm to my King’s people. Instead, I will only be a good Queen, one who will support her King in his endeavors."
Finishing her speech, she then turned to Sasha. With a raised eyebrow, Raine kept her smile going. It wasn’t a sweet one, of course, but a dangerous smirk as she went on the offensive. "These are my terms. Keep in mind that my terms will not include those people who’ll try to kill me. And that goes doubly so to those that would do it behind my back..."
On the sidelines, Danos was one of the spectators watching the rising tension between the two. He smirked and muttered, "This is fun."
Beside him, Lucio shook his head as he murmured back, "I disagree. This is chaotic..."
"It’s still fun," Danos chuckled in rebuttal. "Your daughter’s dying to be queen out there, but I guess it’ll be nothing but a long-lost dream?"
"She’ll do as she pleases," Lucio sighed.
Danos snorted and sneered. "Well, she’s a grown-up woman, after all, so I agree to let her handle her own affairs."
Back to the developing scene, Sasha gritted her teeth as she exclaimed, "My King, this is-"
"Silence!" Nathan suddenly barked out, his expressionless eyes boring into Raine’s. The Princess didn’t budge, however. And instead, she met his stare with unblinking eyes.
"But she-"
Sasha stopped herself midsentence, her mouth freezing when Nathan glared at her. Seeing that the annoying woman was silenced, he spoke with authority, "Aspen, guide Raine to Blue Moon Compound. Let her wait at my residence there." He then looked around and asserted his dominance, "There’s nothing to see here any more, so all of you go back to your posts and work! As for the Elders and officials, follow me to the King’s Hall!"
Seeing her mate in action, Raine flashed a satisfied smirk as she passed by him. Giving him her sweetest smile, she uttered, "See you soon in your bedroom, Darling~" She smirked, making sure that Sasha heard it. She also let out a ridiculing chuckle as her eyes darted toward the red-faced woman. Her reaction was just so enticing.
"I’m not even warmed up yet..." Raine whispered out with a dead tone as she entered the car.
"I’ll be driving," Boris chimed up behind the wheel, seemingly just popping out of nowhere as he addressed Aspen.
Hearing the man, Aspen shook his head. "Why am I not even surprised..."
"I’m just doing my job," Boris scoffed. "Just sit on the passenger seat and let’s go."
The two men then quickly got inside. Boris took the wheel on Raine’s car and drove them all to the vicinity of the Convel Society, towards the Blue Moon pack compound.
Arriving at the scene, there was an eerie silence inside the car that Boris couldn’t help but break. "Welcome, Queen Raine."
Aspen coughed at the greeting, choking on his own saliva as he gave Boris a knowing look.
"What?" Boris teasingly asked, and Aspen only shook his head in exasperation.
Raine, on the other hand, chuckled at the joke and said, "Thank you, Boris. It’s nice to see you again. And the same goes for you, Aspen." She flashed them a smile, "Don’t worry, I won’t put Nathan and your group in any danger. I’m being sincere when I said that I’ll help and support him, but you two should also know that I still have some things to settle here apart from that."
"But... Sasha’s an important member of our group," Aspen trailed off. "Are you planning on killing her? Doing so would put Nat-"
"No! I won’t kill her, Aspen. Please stop worrying," Raine cut the man off with a reassuring nod. "I won’t dare dirty myself with blood for someone like her. Why waste the energy when the law could do it for me?"
"I don’t get it..." Boris mumbled with a frown. "The law for killing Marcus?"
Aspen rolled his eyes at what he just heard. Letting off a sigh, he stopped himself from hitting his good friend up in the head at the time.
"What she meant to say was that you have laws that would punish Sasha for targeting the Queen," Lyne elaborated, seemingly popping up out of nowhere as a terse silence followed. She then added, "I’m talking about the death penalty for those that might try to kill the Queen."
"But Boss Raine isn’t even the official Queen yet..." Boris snorted.
Raine chuckled, "I’m sure Sasha can find a few more ways to kill me with enough time."
"The King will be bombarded with questions in the meeting for sure," Aspen couldn’t help but voice out his thoughts with a sigh.
"Do you think he’ll kick me out?" Raine nonchalantly asked, her eyes darting towards the car window with a solemn look. Even now, she could feel Nathan’s emotions. She let off an unknowing smile and said, "He’ll keep me... Of that, I’m sure..."
