Chapter 255: In Danger
Meanwhile, as the fighting went on, Aspen and Danos kept the pressure up as they made sure that the undead horrors were well occupied with fighting them instead of the people outside. Not that the latter cared about the humans, of course, but at least these monstrosities made him put a bit of effort into his attacks.
"These things are hideous as they are fun to hit," Danos chuckled as he brained yet another walking corpse right in the head with his fist. "Too bad we can’t bite them."
"They have poison running through their veins," Aspen reminded, his own hands still holding a stray pipe that he picked up to bat away at their enemies. "You’re already risking yourself using your fists like that."
"As if they can even think of a proper attack strategy to make use of my openings," Danos scoffed, his outstretched arm still piercing through a zombie’s chest even as he spoke. "They’re literally brain-dead idiots. The only thing they’re good for is dying by our hands."
Aspen could only sigh as they slowly made their way through the facility. The horde of undead never seemed to end even as they killed them by the handful, the machines churning them out by the dozen as they struggled to make progress. Thankfully, the beasts were mindless enough for them to easily lead them along the nose like they were nothing. They also weren’t even half as durable as a normal human, having easily dispatched them with even the slightest swing of his pipe. Still...
"Shouldn’t we start destroying these machines already?" Aspen piped up, his weapon dripping with grey blood as he bludgeoned yet another zombie to pieces. "The King might need our help."
"Aren’t we doing that already?" Danos scoffed. "It’s not as if we’re not helping. These things being plenty enough to slow us down is really annoying."
The former let out another sigh. Their job had been rather insightful, at least. If it were anybody else, they might have already been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of these things. And if they didn’t know how to avoid the poison, then they would’ve already died from the first encounter. It was only a good thing that they came in prepared with heavy duty masks ahead of time.
"Let’s just get on with it," Aspen sighed. "We have more than enough things to worry about."

Back in her room, Raine woke up with a slow start. She knew she had been drugged, but it didn’t matter so long as her squad had a decent explanation to show for it.
"Well, Mia, I sure hope this was worth it..."
Standing up, the bride-to-be let off a decent stretch. She was still feeling weak, but not weak enough to just be standing by idly. Surely, by now, something must’ve happened. Whether it was good or bad, however, she didn’t know.
"Time to see what happened."
Getting out of her room, Raine already knew that something was wrong. Alarms were blaring out, and she was pretty sure that the scent of blood wafting through the air wasn’t supposed to be happening.
"Okay, this wasn’t what I expected at all."
Picking up her pace, Raine slowly made her way through the compound. The scent of blood only got stronger the closer she got to the garden. And by the time she got there, the dread in her chest only reached its crescendo as she saw two of the most important people of her life fighting each other two the death.
"Nathan?"
Raine couldn’t believe it. What in the world was he doing here? While she couldn’t deny the happiness blooming in her heart, the fact that he was fighting her father wasn’t something that she could just ignore.
"Father!"
Calling out to him, Raine was getting ready to jump into the fray. She might not be as strong as she should be, but surely her presence would stop the two men from killing each other-
"You bitch!" What the-
A blow to her head was barely averted as Raine quickly raised her arms up to defend. With the force of the blow making her feet skid backward, she let out a breath as she looked at her attacker. Or rather, attackers along with their one ringleader standing proudly in front of them.
"Well, if it isn’t saucy Raine," Sasha mocked, a group of random mooks surrounding her as she herself stood at the ready. "Come to cry to your father and your so-called mate?"
Raine groaned, her breath becoming ragged even at the slightest exertion. Could she take them all on? At her best, maybe. But as she was now?
It would be more than problematic, to say the least.
"Maybe?" Raine cheekily replied. "Not that you being here will make a difference."
She didn’t care. She was going to stop this bloodbath whether this bitch liked it or not.
Moving forward, Raine lunged as if she wasn’t wearing a wedding gown. Despite her weak body and disadvantageous garb, however, she managed to land the first blow as Sasha flew right at the mooks behind her.
"What’re you all doing? Get her!"
As if snapped into action, the men began to convene around her. Clicking her tongue, Raine now found herself surrounded from all sides as she raised her arms up.
"Well now, you’re giving me a fair fight, at least," Raine humorlessly chuckled.
Like a bubble popping, the onslaught began. The men began hurtling attack after attack at her. And while she managed to answer in kind at first, eventually, she found herself being overwhelmed by the sheer number of fists flying right at her.
"Ughh!"
She groaned, holding her stomach even as she fought tooth and nail to stay upright. The fight was becoming more than problematic. It was getting worse.

Nathan and Marcus were still exchanging blows when they heard a familiar voice grunting out in pain.
"Raine?!"
"She’s here?!" Marcus exclaimed, his face as bloody as Nathan’s as they both stopped.
"She’s in danger!" Nathan worriedly declared, not even explaining himself to his opponent as he ran off. "Raine!"
Marcus could only blink as Nathan left him behind. However, his brief confusion gave way to even more fury as he ran behind him. "Get away from her, you monster!"
