Chapter 250: The Wedding
Three weeks later...
Holed up inside her own private bedroom, Raine let out a sigh as she looked at herself in the mirror. Currently, she was dressed to impress; wearing a long white gown and a translucent veil covering her face as a bouquet of flowers lay waiting on her nightstand. It was the night of her supposed marriage to Janus, and she didn’t like it one bit.
"I really hope I’m doing this right..."
It was a gamble. One that would hopefully pay off, of course. But if it didn’t, then Raine supposed that it was only fate that dealt her a losing hand. She really didn’t know if anyone would save her by the altar, and at this rate, the window of opportunity for anyone to do so was closing really fast.
"Dammit... I really don’t wanna do this..."
Letting out another sigh, Raine could only imagine herself in a different marriage. Perhaps she would still be wearing the same wedding gown as she did now, except with Nathan being the one waiting for her at the altar instead of Janus. And while she really didn’t want to knock on the doctor’s potential to be a husband, she really didn’t want him to be hers. Don’t get her wrong, Janus was a good man, but he just couldn’t hold a candle to what Nathan could offer her.
Well, that, and they had already marked each other, and that wasn’t something they could both take back so easily.
"Nathan..."
Raine whispered out into the darkness of her room as her hand trailed towards the mark on her shoulder. Even now, she could still feel Nathan’s emotions filtering through it. His confusion, his anger... All of them made her own chest seize with her own brand of conflicting emotions.
Why did it have to come to this in the first place? Was it actually the only way for everyone to get out alive? Well, logic dictates that it was the best course of action, but what if it wasn’t? What if she missed something that could’ve made things a whole lot easier for them? What if there was a way for things to proceed without having to wipe Nathan’s memories of her away?
"Could I have missed something..."
Looking back, she was sure that there was no other choice. What else was there to do except to go back to the Moon Clan and play it out from then on? It was the only way, of that, she was sure.
"Still, this sucks..."
Raine shook her head as she returned her attention back to her reflection. Truly, she looked more than ready to be wedded. The gown just hugged her body in all the right places, and her natural beauty only made the extravagant gems stitched onto it shine even more. She probably would’ve looked even better if she was actually happy, but that was to be expected of someone that was going into an arranged marriage.
"Well, better get going then..."
Picking up her flowers, Raine resigned herself to her fate as she made her way to her door. But just as she was about to turn the handle, a knock pierced through her worried thoughts.
"Who is it?"
"I-It’s me," Mia called out from the other side. "May I come in?"
Blinking, Raine let out a relieved sigh as she opened the door. It would seem that she had another reason to stall out her departure.
Walking in, Mia was also dressed rather primly. With a simple gown that only accentuated her features, she dragged Raine back into the bedroom as she pulled out a bottle of wine.
"Mia?" Raine asked just as they sat on her bed. "What’s that for?"
"This? It’s for us, Boss," Mia cheekily replied just as she removed the top off the bottle. "Can’t share one last drink?"
Raine could only watch as Mia then pulled out two empty glasses from out of nowhere. Pouring themselves a glass of wine each, Mia gave the other glass to her as she raised her own up for a toast. For some reason, she had a feeling that there was more to what the other girl was doing, but she didn’t have enough reason in her to care at the moment.
"Cheers?" Mia asked with a smile.
With a raised eyebrow, Raine found herself swirling her own glass of wine, as if debating whether or not to actually care to check for anything suspicious.
Then again, wouldn’t that be yet another reason for her to use?
Making up her mind, Raine let off an appreciative smile as she clinked her glass against Mia’s. "Cheers then."
Taking the glass up to her lips, the bride-to-be ignored the sinking feeling inside her as she gulped down the entire glass. If there was anything in her drink that might possibly affect her, then she might as well make sure that she took in all of it. Not that it would probably work, but...
"Can I have another?"
Wordlessly, Mia poured her another glass, and Raine drank it down without even a second thought. Surely, if her friend and comrade had something planned that needed her out of commission, then she’ll just have to trust that what it was would work out in the end.
Blinking, Raine asked for yet another glass, her vision starting to blur as whatever Mia slipped into her began to work. It wouldn’t put her down for long, but at least it was a decent excuse to skip her wedding.
Falling to her bed, Raine gave Mia a small smile before finally drifting off to sleep.

Meanwhile, down at the Yue Mansion gardens, the wedding was just about to commence when a problem cropped up: Raine was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is she?" Janus worriedly asked. "We’re about to start and she’s still not here."
"She’ll be here," Marcus reassured. "If anything, she’s probably just making sure she’s presentable."
Hearing his King, the doctor could only simmer as he stood in wait. This was the moment he was waiting for, and if it didn’t happen, then he didn’t know what he’d do. "After this, I’m sure-"
"I’ve come to reclaim what’s mine!"
