Chapter 248: Owned Her Heart
Chapter 248: Owned Her Heart
Days passed, and everyone inside the Moon Clan Territory became ever so busy in response to the King’s instructions. In particular, their preparation for yet another attack against the Convel Society was taking up much of their resources. One person, in particular, worked hard in making it all happen. Putting in double-time was Janus as he was busy completing the project pertaining to the undead. He wanted it done as early as possible, seeing as its completion meant he’d get to marry Raine even faster.
Looking on in yet another experiment, Janus let out a sigh as he monitored the vitals of the latest test subject he observed. It almost looked as if it was yet another failure. However, taking yet another glance, he almost let out a scream as he reviewed the test results. They all came out perfect! It was the perfect undead, just as the King wanted it.
Immediately, the doctor reported the new development to King Marcus, who wasted no time in visiting his secret facility to check it out. As soon as his King arrived, Janus put one of the undead inside the cage alongside a chained rogue werewolf. There, King Marcus watched as the undead and the werewolf fought. The undead’s movement was more active compared to its very slow movements before. As opposed to fighting, its goal was not to win but to infect and spread its venom on the werewolf. As such, it allowed itself to get bitten by its opponent, all while delivering its own bites to hasten the infection process.
"This is good, Janus. How long do you think it’ll take for you to create more of these monsters?" Marcus inquired. It was amazing. He was delighted with how the undead managed to kill the rogue werewolf with but a simple bite, its opponent only lasting five minutes after infection. "I want to attack the Convel Society soon. If you can produce a hundred of these things or more, then I’ll proceed with the attack. Will less than a month be enough?"
Janus took a bit of time to think before he confidently responded, "Yes, I can definitely create a hundred and more, my King. I’ll strive to do it in less than a month."
"Good," Marcus nodded. "Although, it seems to me that you’re really desperate to proceed with the wedding."
"Indeed, my King. If possible, I want to proceed with my wedding to the Princess before the attack on the Convel Society," Janus voiced out his thoughts. He had sacrificed more of his time doing everything the King wanted just to please him, and it should be his time to reap what he had sowed!
"Alright, we’ll schedule the attack to take place in three weeks’ time," the King declared. "You’ll marry my daughter inside the Yue Mansion Garden before then, and the whole territory will stand as witness to the event."
"Are we going to invite a select group of people from the Earth and Sun Clans, my King?" Janus curiously asked. While it was a hollow question, seeing as he really didn’t care, the approval of the two Clans would go a long way for his standing within the Mirage.
Marcus neutrally spoke, "I would hate to disappoint you on this, Janus, but I wish to make this an exclusive event within our territory." He then added, "I’m not ready to mingle with the other Clans just yet, so please understand."
"I understand completely, my King," Janus quickly relented. "Again, I’m honored you deigned to entrust me with Raine’s hand. I will be a good husband to her, and be an even more reliable subject to your reign, my King," he vowed.
"Thank you, Janus. Just know that you’re very special in our Clan, and one of whom I trust the most," the King reiterated, complementing his future son-in-law. "You and Raine should have dinner with me later."
At his King’s invitation, Janus eagerly agreed. With a grin, he easily accepted the offer with a bow.
Meanwhile, Raine had become busy with managing her squad, including the two replacements for the members of her team that had turned into werewolves.
"Boss, Boris already took them," Dan reported from a safe contact Levi and Mia had established. There was always a possibility that the King would continue to monitor all their movements, as well as bug every incoming and outgoing communication from any of them. As such, it was prudent for them to create an even more secure connection.
"Alright. Come back here and help Dylan to get new recruits we can trust as replacements," Raine ordered. She then gave even further instructions before finally ending the call.
Pocketing her phone, she let out a frustrated sigh at what she had to deal with. Her father wouldn’t allow her to go outside their territory. So instead, she had to resort to giving out orders to her men that could go outside in her stead.
Suddenly, her mobile phone rang. Looking at the caller, she immediately answered upon seeing that it was Janus.
"Alright, pick me up by six then... See you, dear..." Raine sweetly murmured, giving off disjointed answers before putting her phone down once more.
Levi, who had witnessed the exchange, coughed hard enough that he was almost about to vomit. He only stopped when Raine glared at him with her eyes screaming bloody murder.
"Seriously, Boss? Are you really going to marry that dog?!" Levi retorted in protest.
Their Boss was too quiet whenever it came to matters regarding her marriage with Janus. They were aware that she was using the man to get more information for the Convel Society’s benefit, but they were also all aware of how their Boss was someone who wouldn’t disobey her father.
"There’s nothing much we can do, Levi," Raine intoned with a faint smile. "I guess the wedding will happen unless Nathan magically comes back and snatches me."
Levi frowned, "You mean you really won’t do a thing if he happens to not come at the right time?!"
Raine chuckled, "You’re too worn out, Levi. You and Mia should date more... Go and take her out tonight and unwind, okay?"
With a smile, she then turned and left Levi alone in the living room, all while dragging Draki with her back to her bedroom. She was aware of whenever Nathan was watching the live feed coming from Janus’s glasses. After all, whenever he did, she could feel his emotions surging through her. She wondered what happened a while ago that could cause him to become furious. She could only feel his emotions through their shared connection, and she could only speculate that Janus probably said something about her that Nathan wasn’t pleased about.
Shrugging, she smiled as she murmured, "Later, he might see me again. I’m gonna dress myself up nicely and let him be blinded by my beauty."
That was how Raine tried to console herself whenever she would long for Nathan. She’d often show her face before Janus, flashing the sweetest smile on her face as she smiled to the camera. It was really unfair to the doctor, but there was nothing she could do about it except being honest with him; about how there was already another man that owned her heart.
