Chapter 246: Getting married soon
Meanwhile, in another part of the Moon Clan compound, Raine heaved out a long deep sigh as she walked towards the laboratory where Janus currently was. She was aware of how quickly the news of her engagement spread like wildfire throughout the entire clan. Even now, she could feel the meaningful glances that everyone was sneakily throwing at her.
"So annoying..."
She grumbled to herself in thinly veiled insecurity. It was stupid. She was supposed to have a reputation of being a badass all around, but here she was cowering like a dog before her father. Letting out a sigh, she stared intently at the paper bag in her hands, her feet moving by themselves as she walked. She would need to dance to her father’s tune for now, and she’d also have to deceive Janus for it to work.
After a few minutes of walking, she finally arrived at the laboratory where Janus was currently working. The man was obviously excited for her surprise visit, and it showed as soon as she opened the door. And for some added privacy, he also dismissed everyone in the room, leaving them by themselves as he ushered her into his office.
"I’m so happy that you’re back, Raine!" Janus happily greeted her as he went to her. He unconsciously hugged her tightly, making Raine slightly choke on her own breath.
"Y-Yeah... I can feel that you’re really happy. But how about you let me breathe, Janus?" Raine humorously asked with a genuine smile. She could feel that Janus indeed cared for her, which only made her feel even more sorry for him since she was unable to reciprocate his feelings. She honestly thought that Janus would manage to get over her as time went on, especially since they barely saw each other anyway. However, it would seem that her absence only made his heart grow fonder, much to her pity.
’I’m sorry, Janus... I’ll have to use your feelings for me right now, but I promise I won’t take long,’ Raine silently apologized in her thoughts before she slipped on her mask of affection once more.
At her words, Janus gently let her go as Raine then handed him the paper bag. "Here. I brought something for you. Just a small token of gratitude for all the help you’ve given me all this time," she smiled. "I realized that I haven’t given you a single thing at all, so I came here to rectify that."
Excitedly, Janus took a peek at what’s inside the bag. Realizing what it was, his eyes glimmered as he said, "This looks good." Then, as if gathering a bit of his courage, he added, "Oh! I have something for you as well."
Raine could only watch as the doctor grabbed something from his drawer. Already, she could sense what it was bound to be; a ring.
"I know you don’t have feelings for me right now, but I’ll really try my best so that you can learn to love me, Raine," Janus declared as he grabbed her hand and placed the ring on one of her fingers.
Looking at the piece of jewelry now sitting on her finger, Raine couldn’t help but feel conflicted as she tried her best not to cry.
She recalled how just this morning, Dylan gave her a bouquet of roses with a diamond ring inside... And there was another box, one containing two rings... wedding rings... All of it was inside the car Nathan left on the road when he rushed to the Convel Society. It was on the night of the attack, and she had Dylan retrieve it since it was still their property.
Raine bit her inner cheek as she tried her best to calm and compose herself. Forcing a smile on her face, she muttered, "This ring fits me quite well. And it looks gorgeous too, Janus. Thank you."
Not even letting him say a word, she quickly steered the subject away from the ring as she eyed the paper bag she gave to Janus.
"Try it on," Raine suggested as she grabbed the glasses and handed it to him. "I’m sure this one will look better on you. I’d love to see you wear it often. You can also wear the contact lenses I bought with them and try them on later."
Not wasting time, she removed Janus’s current glasses and replaced them with the ones she brought.

In yet another part of the country, a deafening silence was the only thing permeating the secret room where Nathan was watching the live feed from the glasses along with his confidants.
"Raine Yue..." Nathan murmured, repeating what Davin had just said when he asked who was the woman talking to the man on the screen. The King already knew that Janus was the one in charge of all confidential projects currently being funded by Marcus, but that woman... She seemed so familiar...
"So she’s the Moon Clan Princess," Nathan pondered, his stare fixated on the screen as he keenly watched her face while she talked to Janus. No matter how hard he tried to remember, there was only pain in his head every time he seemed to manage a breakthrough. Even now, he had a feeling that something was wrong, seeing how this Raine was smiling at who he knew was another man.
Meanwhile, Boris and the others were keenly and sneakily watching Nathan, their own senses on high alert as they observed the man whose eyes wouldn’t even leave the screen.
"You really don’t remember her, my King?" Boris could no longer help but ask.
Nathan only shook his head as his stare remained solely on the screen.
"Ah, thank you for this, Raine," the man on the screen spoke in gratitude. "You really didn’t need to bother giving me presents like this. Although, my glasses are getting a bit too old, and it’s only a good thing that I now have a new one. Ah, I’ll definitely use this regularly."
"That’s good, Janus. That definitely looks better on you. Also, like I said, you already did a lot in helping me out, so I’m really grateful," Raine smiled as she shook her head on the screen. "And besides, this is just a small thing. To be honest, I wanted to give you a new pair of glasses and contact lenses that you can alternately use. I think that’s something that will suit you more," she giggled. "I hope you don’t mind? Father asked me to be nicer to you since the two of us are getting married soon, and I will try my best to work on this relationship and try to spend more time with you from now -"
"Turn it off!!!!" Nathan suddenly shouted.
