Chapter 245: Always knew what she was doing
At the Moon Clan Territory
"How’s it going?"
Lyne opened the conversation with a careful inquiry at Mia, who was still busy encrypting the message that she wanted to deliver to the Convel Society. While what they were doing was highly dangerous, the Boss had given them the signal to do so.
"It’s going well on my part," Mia droned out, her eyes not leaving her screen even as she instructed the man beside her. "Levi, type faster."
Seeing the two work, Lyne held her breath as she took a look at the clock. The Boss had just left to give Janus the bugged pair of glasses and contact lenses as presents, and they were already getting some of the feed from it back into their database.
"I’m doing the best I can here, okay?" Levi almost complained even as he continued typing just as fast as Mia. "Not everyone’s a tech wiz."
Lyne could only shake her head in wait as the two worked. Eventually...
"Done!"
Mia and Levi burst out in chorus, the two stretching their arms out as their work was finished. And with that, Lyne finally managed to let out a relieved sigh. At least this part of their job was finished.
"Ah, that was too exhausting!" Levi teasingly complained out loud.
"You bet!" Mia seconded before letting out a relieved sigh of her own. "But at least we managed to send them the data package. The connection was spotty, but we didn’t even need a loophole to avoid detection."
"Good work, you two!" Lyne praised, placing a hand on Mia and Levi’s shoulders.
"He would definitely see her, right?" Mia wondered, looking at the data package as it sent itself to the intended recipient. "I wonder if he’ll recognize the Boss..." Lyne had narrated to them what had happened back in the Convel Society, and how their Boss had to resort to using the memory-loss powder Janus made for mutants.
"Maybe he will. Maybe he won’t. It doesn’t matter anymore," Lyne decidedly whispered out. "We did our part. Now it’s up to them to do their job."
"Well, I just hope that we won’t lose any more innocent lives once this war breaks out," Levi started with a shrug. "God knows many have died for nothing these past few months."
"Nathan promised me that, Levi, and I believe in him..." Mia reassured Levi. "He’s the rightful heir and ruler of the Moon Clan. He bears the blood of Yue, and we all know that he’s way better than having Marcus as the King."
"On that, I agree. Though the problem now is this marriage thing," he thoughtfully voiced out loud. "I’m sure Janus will lord over his marriage to all the corners of the Moon Clan Territory. Everyone kind of expected his marriage to the Princess anyway, and it seems like the Boss will let it happen..."
A round of sighs filled the control room before Lyne broke the cycle and said, "I’m sure that wedding won’t happen. The Convel Society will probably choose to attack before it even happens..."
"But Nathan doesn’t remember the Boss now. So what makes you think he would spare her the indignity of marrying that nerd?" Levi retorted.
Unlike the two, he was still worried about how things were currently progressing. They had just helped the Convel Society with this stunt, but they honestly didn’t even have any sort of guarantee that they’d help in return except for Nathan’s prior promise to Mia. And that happened while his memories of their Boss were still intact too. How could they be sure that the King will keep his word when he had already lost his memories? Indeed, he was agreeable at the time because of his love for their Boss, but was it still the same now when he doesn’t even remember her existence?
Levi honestly didn’t want to take part in helping the Convel Society after knowing what happened to Lyne. But since it was what their Boss wanted, he had no choice but to comply.
"Hmm, he did mark her, so I’m sure he’ll recognize her either way," Lyne blandly commented.
"He might not remember her in his head, but I have a feeling his heart is more than up to the task. I’ve researched enough about werewolves to know this stuff, so we really shouldn’t worry." She then flashed a smile as she continued, turning to Draki as she gently petted the wolf’s head. "Nathan’s head over heels for her. Also, he’s currently hiding something powerful within his body that I’m sure will eventually cleanse the powder off his system given enough time."
At the newly-revealed piece of information, Levi and Mia looked at Lyne with scrutinizing eyes. "What is this? How come you haven’t shared this with us?" Mia complained with a pout. "Now that’s just unfair!"
Lyne chuckled at her friend’s expense. Yes, she indeed knew more than them at this point. What she had just alluded to were the facts that the Voyager’s Watch was currently within Nathan’s body, that she also knew the story behind it, and that Nathan had shown the device to her and Boris back when they were being held captive at the Convel Society... She had done a lot of research about the device way back then with the Boss, so Lyne was sure that her superior knew full well of the power it possessed.
"Let’s just say that we all know the Boss always knew what she was doing," Lyne answered playfully, intentionally making Mia and Levi die of curiosity. She then turned her attention towards another stray thought as she murmured, "Ahh... Now I’m kind of curious on whether or not our allies at the Convel Society managed to decipher the message and decode the signal we’ve sent them yet."
"You really thought we could get away with this, huh?" Mia frowned, squinting her eyes as the other woman scoffed.
"Okay, fine," Lyne chuckled as she smirked. "I’ll tell you more about it. You two better brace yourselves. This is a mouthful."
