Chapter 232: Initiated
After all was said and done, Boris found himself looking at Aspen. With a nod, he telepathically communicated with him, [I’ll follow you shortly.]
[Alright, but don’t take long...] Aspen mentally replied before leaving the room with the rest of their companions.
Watching them leave, Boris turned his gaze as he finally met Lyne’s eyes. Try as he might, however, he was unable to utter any words. He didn’t know what to say. All he knew was that Lyne was about to return to the Moon Clan Territory, and he didn’t know when they could ever meet again. And while he clearly understood their current situation, his heart still broke knowing that he wouldn’t be able to see her whenever he wanted. He hadn’t even marked her yet, and here he was feeling like he was about to go insane just by being near his mate!
Boris let out a pensive sigh. Drawing comparisons, he wondered how King Nathan would react once he found out that Raine was gone. Their bond was too strong already, and any sort of separation between them would probably hurt more than they’d even expect. Just thinking about it, Boris shook his head. He knew he had to face his inner fears about separation at some point. He shouldn’t waste time comparing or justifying what he was currently feeling with what the others might be experiencing.
"What is it, Boris?" Lyne asked with a frown. Just from how he was looking at her, she could tell that Boris had something to say.
Boris, however, still not being able to fathom what to say at that point, ended up pulling Lyne into a tight embrace. The latter was startled at the sudden action. A part of her wanted to push back, but she found herself not even struggling. With great hesitation, she cautiously moved her arms to accommodate him, hugging him back as she fought through her prejudice.
"I’m sorry. I’m at a loss for words," Boris murmured, his tone downcast as he spoke. "It’s just... I don’t know how to express what I’m feeling right now." He just didn’t want to take the chance. It felt as if he might mess things up if he said what he wanted to say without thinking about it hard enough.
Hearing his explanation, Lyne unconsciously smiled, her face burying itself in his chest. "If we’re meant to be, then I guess we’ll have to meet again one way or another," she murmured, making Boris hug her more tightly. "Ah- You might break my bones."
At Lyne’s joking tone, Boris loosened his hold, but he still didn’t let her go as he relished the feeling of their closeness. In truth, he wanted to do more than just hug her, but he was honestly surprising himself with how much self-control he was exerting at the moment. It was frustrating, but he had to remind himself that he still needed to adjust and consider Lyne’s apprehensive disposition with his acts of intimacy.
Mai had already told him that he had to take things slow with Lyne and to always make sure to ask her for permission first, especially whenever he wanted to do more than just skin-to-skin contact. Right now, he knew he had already broken those rules by hugging her so suddenly like this, but he still couldn’t find it in himself to care. And even then, Lyne was also hugging him back anyway, giving him even more encouragement that what he was doing was still fine.
Meanwhile, Lyne fought every fiber of her being as she let Boris hug her as much as he wanted. She didn’t make a move or even try to break free from him. Boris had already done a lot for her already, and she wasn’t that naive knowing the amount of self-control he must be exerting on himself just to behave properly before her.
After some time, Boris finally let her go. "I’m sorry," he bashfully murmured while scratching his head.
"That’s okay. We don’t know when we’ll meet again, so I understand," Lyne nodded. "Although, I still have to find out more about this mate pull so I can truly understand the sentiment." After Boris had declared that she was his mate, Lyne actually found herself doing a lot of research about the knowledge concerning those things on werewolves. Her inherent prejudice was still telling her to back out, but she forced herself to go through with it anyway.
"Can I... Uhm..." Boris stuttered, hesitation lingering in his voice.
His eyes wandered towards the floor, frowning as he wondered how he should ask for what he wanted since he was far from used to asking for things. It was truly a struggle, trying to deliver the words that he wanted to come out of his mouth. Licking his lips, he inwardly cursed, hoping that he could just pull Lyne in that instant and kiss her breathlessly like there was no tomorrow. It just always felt like that whenever he was with her. Just the thought of not seeing Lyne for a long time was truly killing him already and yet Boris had to keep on reminding himself that it wouldn’t take long because King Nathan had a plan to rule Moon Clan and once it became successful then he could continue seeing Lyne and court her, hopefully with no interruptions anymore. And once again, all he needed was patience...
Boris inwardly cursed the word ’patience’ that became a necessity in his life, the one single word that he never imagined he would have in his lifetime.
Seeing his hesitation, Lyne unconsciously cupped Boris’s face and murmured, "You need to go soon, Boris. I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking for, but I’ll be generous today. Just this once, I’ll give you this. Take it as me showing how grateful I am for all of your efforts in saving me back then."
Hearing those words, Boris lifted his head to look at Lyne. He wondered if she could tell what he wanted to ask her, but his heart almost stopped beating as she suddenly leaned closer to him with her eyes closed. His eyes widened, excitement brewing as he anticipated what was to happen. Before he knew it, her soft lips pressed against his. It wasn’t the first time he had experienced Lyne’s lips; an event that actually became a dilemma, with the memory giving him sleepless nights after he got a taste of it.
In the end, the kiss was simply nothing more than a peck on his lips. But somehow, the small gesture felt infinitely better than the stolen passionate kiss he gave to her back then. Maybe because Lyne initiated it? Was that why it felt way better?
He was completely caught in a daze, only snapping back to reality as soon as she felt Lyne squeeze his arm while calling his name.
"Boris!"
"Y-Yeah..." he murmured out with a wide smile. "Something wrong?"
Lyne didn’t know how to react, but she found herself suppressing her laughter just so Boris wouldn’t feel too embarrassed in being caught off-guard. His reaction was just so adorable that Lyne couldn’t help but feel herself up. His actions made her feel like she was one hell of a beautiful woman, what with how Boris seemed to be constantly pinning her.
"You have to go now," Lyne reminded him. "Don’t keep them waiting. I hope after this, everything will turn good for you Boris. You must listen well to those people whose aim is to help you."
Boris absently nodded, his eyes still staring at Lyne as his mouth kept on flashing a wide ear-to-ear smile. He didn’t mind how stupid he might’ve looked at that moment. It didn’t matter, as long as he was kept on cloud nine with that simple kiss he got from Lyne.
"Boris..." Lyne snapped her fingers in front of him. "We don’t have much time."
Shaking his head, the large man nodded. "Yeah, I’m leaving now."
’I’ll definitely make a way for us to see each other soon,’ he unknowingly voiced out before turning around and leaving the room in a rush. After what just happened, a part of him was afraid that the longer he stayed, the harder it would be for him to let Lyne go. If he spent any longer than necessary, his poor control might just result in him escaping and bringing her along with him no matter what!
On the other hand, Lyne let out a long sigh as soon as Boris left the room. She unconsciously touched her lips and murmured, "I’m not sure with what I did." Then she shook her head and wondered if she was already considering Boris as her partner.
"It’s too early to tell... I still have my doubts and fears," Lyne murmured as she helplessly sat back on her chair. There were still pressing matters to attend to soon and she could only hope that everything would turn well. Yet one thing was for sure... They had to face another turbulence once they got back at Moon Clan territory.
