Chapter 199: To fuck your day up

The King’s Room exploded into chaos. The front door was busted open as Raine led the charge with pistol in one hand and raw power in the other. Shooting the poor fool in front of her in the head, the shock of the attack put the entire room on the backfoot as the rest of her team followed suit. Meanwhile, Dylan blew a breach charge on the opposite side of the room, opening the way for Boris and their team to open fire on anyone that dared to oppose them.

Smoke and gunfire filled the room, silver bullets flying from opposite directions as the occupants of the room were immediately wounded. The worthless mooks were the first to go down, followed by some of the few that were unfortunate enough to get sprayed full of bullets before hiding behind the safety mahogany table.

"Enough!"

However, the mutants weren’t idle. Danos screamed bloody murder as he shifted into his hybrid form and blitzkrieged his way towards Dylan’s group. Dodging and weaving through the sea of bullets, he broke through the initial volley and broke the other team’s formation, leading to the formation of a brief reprieve that allowed the rest of the mutants to gather their bearings and retaliate as well.

"Shit," Raine cursed as she stopped firing. "Everyone, defensive formations! Levi, cover fire!, Lyne, with me!"

Her team quickly obeyed, using the narrow path of their entrance strategy as a funnel to direct the mutants’ attack against them. Laying down cover fire, Levi watched as their Boss fought her way to the middle of the room. Lyne, meanwhile, provided support to Raine in the form of her own bullet sprays as a deterrence to any mutant that would even dare attack them.

"Dylan, status!"

"We’re pinned down," Dylan quickly echoed through the sound of gunfire. "Danos has us occupied all on his own. Boris is holding him off, but the rest of the mutants are picking up the slack."

"Damn it," Raine cursed, her pistol still firing as she turned to Lyne. "Give them some backup. I can handle myself here."

"Got it, Boss."

By her leave, Lyne ran through the gunfire-filled room with her rifle still firing on all cylinders. Raine did her best to cover for her, but quickly stopped when Lyne eventually disappeared to the other side of the room. Looking around, she quickly spotted a prime target just as she dispatched yet another mutant of the face of the earth.

"Have to end this quickly..." she whispered to herself.

Boris was not having a great time.

He had already transformed into his hybrid form as he found himself thoroughly occupied in keeping Danos entertained. Not that he wanted to entertain him, but the complexities of battle made it impossible for him to pin the man down and rip his head off.

"What’s the matter? Are you trying to hold yourself back, Boris?" Danos taunted as his claws swiped at the air in front of the man. "And here I thought you were trying to kill me!"

Boris only growled as he moved to dodge the swipe, returning it with his own, only to seemingly graze his opponent.

"Stand still so I can kill you easier," he growled, his claws raring for blood as his ticket to his mate stood in front of him.

"Getting slower as well? What a joke!"

Danos lunged at the bigger werewolf, fangs showing in full view as he prepared to bite his adversary. However...

"Finally."

A woman’s voice echoed from behind the smoke, a silver bullet grazing Danos leg as he suddenly backed off. Looking at the direction of the gunfire, Lyne walked forward, her rifle aimed squarely at the man.

"A human? What’re you gonna do? Kill me?"

"Exactly."

Lyne opened fire, but despite her aim being true, Danos was simply much faster than she anticipated. Before she knew it, the werewolf was already in front of her, a hand raised poised to rend her to shreds.

"Die-"

"Get away from her!"

Before Danos even completed his attack, a tackle suddenly pushed her away from Danos. She could only watch in shock as Boris took the blow that was solely meant for her. "Boris!"

"Arrggh!!"

Boris grunted in pain as Danos’s claws dug into his flesh. It wasn’t the worst injury he ever sustained, but it still hurt like hell.

"You actually took it?! Are you stupid?!" Danos howled, before then capitalizing on his advantage by ripping into Boris. "All that for a woman?"

"She’s not just a woman. She’s my mate," Boris growled, trying his best to wrestle his way out of Danos’s grip. "Don’t you lay a hand on her!"

The two werewolves duked it out on the ground, Lyne watching with patience as she quickly composed herself and aimed her rifle at what she knew was Danos. There was a time to be touched at Boris’s actions, but the heat of battle wasn’t the time to be appreciative. Not by a long shot.

"Give me a clear shot, Boris," Lyne coldly relayed as she aimed her sights. "Let’s end this now."

"I take it you’re the leader here?"

Raine had set her eyes on Decan as soon as she noticed him sitting by the head of the table. She wasn’t sure if he was the king, but it was still a good target as any.

"I suppose you could say that," Decan vaguely answered. "And you’re the one wreaking havoc in this room."

"Right back at you," Raine scoffed, veiled anger simmering in her tone as she casually fired her pistol at a stray mutant trying to reach her. "You do realize I have to kill you, right? You put my father in a coma, after all."

"Your father?"

"King Marcus," she growled, her feet already taking her closer to her quarry. "He’s in a coma right now, and you’re the one who put him there."

"You’re his daughter?"

"Indeed," Raine cocked her pistol, a vindictive grin showing on her face. "And now I’m here to fuck your day up."
