Chapter 198: All hell broke loose
Boris, with Dylan and the rest, led the way to the secret passage after they got Raine’s go signal. However, it was quite different from how they expected it to go since there were now guards patrolling and securing the training grounds.
"Boss... There are approximately ten werewolves securing the area. All are cleared from high-tech devices to trigger an alarm except for radios to communicate," Dylan relayed after scanning the enemy through his night-vision binoculars. "Permission to silence the targets, Boss?"
"Granted..." Raine cooly responded. "Make sure no one will send an alarm, or else we’ll be busted before we can even attempt to breach."
"Noted, Boss..." Dylan answered, and Raine heard him proceed as he gave instructions to the team under his command.
Raine’s car reached their designated spot on the road, and Lyne was automatically given the lead role in guiding her and Levi to the secret passage leading towards the border of the Convel Society. Dylan then reported how they succeeded in quietly eliminating the guards, managing to pull the bodies towards a particular area to hide them.
"Boss, we’re clear..." Dylan reported.
"Alright, proceed as planned and let Boris lead the way. Make sure that all the hierarchy is indeed in the King’s Hall."
"Noted, I will lead the way. If there’s no meeting tonight, then as planned, I will lead you to the King’s chamber..."
"Damn, it’s so hard when we know nothing about the current king... So frustrating..." Levi complained.
There was a chuckle from Boris as he humorously said, "I would say he’s quite good, keeping his identity like this to his advantage. See how problematic it is to find a target without knowing who it is. But then, our greatest clue is the crown. It’s a tradition for him to always wear the crown inside the Convel Society..."
"Very helpful, indeed," Levi sarcastically snorted on the other line. "Damn, the Convel Society is huge."
Levi whispered in awe as they began their entrance. It was as if there was an entire village inside the forest. They were aware of how it was protected by having members of the society inside the government of Country V, not to mention how one of the Convel Society Elders, Lucio Greene, was also running for the presidency against the Earth Clan King of Mirage, Chad, along with two more candidates. Mutants obviously wanted the highest positions in the country. Who knows? Perhaps the other two candidates could be mutants as well?
Raine’s team were like thieves in the night as they quietly dispersed themselves throughout the area, cautiously heading their way towards the King’s Hall. They all knew which way to go because Boris knew the area well, and had already given them the locations of safe and secured areas to position themselves in as they headed to the target place. All of them stopped after covering just enough distance, and Raine released the drone to be operated by Mia. She then instructed Boris to guide Mia with the proper directions so that he could check if all their targets were indeed inside the King’s hall.
"There are ten mutants inside, Boris..." Mia reported as Boris looked at the tablet. His jaw clenched after confirming Danos’s presence.
"They’re here. We can attack now," Boris uttered.
Hearing Boris, Raine signaled Dylan and the rest to install the barrier around the King’s hall.
"Got it," Raine muttered under her breath as she spied the room in front of them. Looking over her team, she mentally made sure that they were all primed and ready for action. With silver bullets loaded into her pistol, she let out a small breath before she finally commanded. "Weapons hot on my signal."
The silent sound of magazines being cocked clicked ominously against the night. On the other line, the echoes of high-caliber guns being readied filtered through the static. It wasn’t much of a comfort, but the tension of potential war somehow soothed her nerves as Raine mentally counted down the seconds inside her head. "Dylan, deploy the barrier."
There were no words that needed to be said as a sheen of haptic light suddenly enveloped the entire area. It wasn’t the signal, but such a move would already alert the enemy of their movements. Already, Raine could tell that the mutants inside the room had felt something change in the air around them.
"Are we going in yet?"
Levi was becoming impatient as he could feel the drumming of his heart.
"Not yet," Raine responded to Levi as she eyed their quarry. "Let it stew..."
Her eyes were glued to the screen as her grip on her pistol tightened with each passing second. Her team was already chomping at the bit to enter the scene, but it wasn’t the time yet. There was still a window of opportunity here that they could maximize their entrance should they time it right.
"Let’s go, Raine," Boris echoed from the radio. "We’re losing our window of oppor-"
"Not yet," she ground out.
The mutants were still seated. The room wasn’t in a panic, but there should be a time where they should start checking by the doors. Surely they already knew that something was wrong.
"Boss?"
Raine kept her silence, her muscles priming themselves as she spotted one of the mutants finally standing up. She didn’t dare blink as she watched the mutant slowly make his way to the door. Only a few more seconds now...
"Come on-"
"Weapons hot," she hissed. "Breach on three..."
Just a few more steps... Just a few more agonizing steps...
"One..." Raine counted down, her lips moistening as she licked them. "Two..." The mutant finally put his hand on the doorknob... "Three!"
All hell broke loose.
Not known to them, there were a pair of eyes silently observing all of their movements. It was Tyrone’s nephew, who, with a smirk, murmured, "Well this is interesting. I should probably observe a bit more, Uncle, see how everything would play out. I’d hate to interrupt such enjoyable fight scenes."
