Chapter 82: Portals Not Working

I’m not entirely sure how much time had passed, but after what felt like an incredibly long, peaceful sleep, I finally opened my eyes again. To my relief, I found myself still lying on the beach, the warm sand beneath me and the sound of gentle waves in the distance. Phew... so it wasn’t a dream after all... I really did escape the sea and make it to land.

Even though I’m on land now, being in the water for so long kind of messed up with my sense of things. I got so used to the ocean that I almost started thinking of it as my home. Now that I’m on solid ground again, it feels a bit strange and weird. I don’t know why, but that’s just how I feel right now.

I guess it’s been a while since I’ve been somewhere without water, so I’ll have to get used to this whole "land" thing again.

...

...

I lay where I am for a few more minutes, watching the bright blue sky and enjoying the feeling of solid ground beneath me again. The sun continued its ascent, casting a warm glow across the unfamiliar landscape. I took a moment to survey my surroundings, and all I could say was that it was much more peaceful and relaxing compared to the sea.

Naturally, I wasn’t alone here. The beach was teeming with life—countless tiny sea creatures scuttling about in the sand and water, like crabs, clams, and various types of other shellfish that I didn’t even recognize. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched them move around, each one doing its little cute thing, just as they’ve always done.

It was at this moment that a brilliant idea suddenly popped into my head. Hahaha! I could practically hear the lightbulb go off in my mind! I guess I can eat all the seafood I want from now on! And the best part is? It’s all free! I don’t even have to do much—just pick it up and done! Easy peasy! Bahaha, good stuff! Looks like I’ve just hit the seafood jackpot.

...

...

Fifteen minutes later...

Having rested enough, I finally felt satisfied and stood up. I turned around, and the land stretched out before me—a mix of dense forests, towering cliffs, and open plains. It was a stark contrast to the endless expanse of water that had put me through hell for so long. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of triumph and accomplishment, having conquered the challenges of the open sea and finally reached land.

"Alright, before I do anything, let’s grab something to eat first!" I said to myself.

I didn’t want to waste any time, so I set to work right away. I searched the shore, collecting crabs, clams, or pretty much any shellfish I could find. My stomach growled louder the more I looked around, and before I knew it, I was sitting down, tearing open the shells and eating whatever I could get my hands on. I didn’t bother cooking them—there was no time for that. I was so hungry, I just couldn’t wait.

MUNCH! MUNCH! MUNCH! NOM! NOM! NOM!

...

...

Not long after, I let out a satisfied sigh. "Ah! I guess when you’re hungry, everything just tastes so delicious!"

As soon as I was done eating, I leaned back and looked up at the vast blue sky. The sight of the countless floating islands above me was awe-inspiring, each one suspended in midair, frozen in place.

I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of what I was about to do. Without wasting another moment, I bent my knees, preparing for a massive leap. I focused on the nearest floating islands, taking aim. Then, with all the power I could muster, I pushed off the ground and launched myself into the air.

WHOOSH! The wind whipped past me as I soared toward it, adrenaline rushing through my veins.

FLY!

"Hahaha! This is awesome! So this is what flying feels like, huh?" I couldn’t help but enjoy the sensation of soaring through the air. "Woohoo! Yahoo! Hell yeah!"

...

...

After a while, I landed on one of the floating islands. Rushing toward the center, I was surprised to find that the portal was still there. However, it wasn’t glowing like before, suggesting that it was no longer active.

Ding!

[The portal has closed and is no longer available.]

"A-Are you kidding me?!" I said. "No, wait...! There are still other floating islands nearby. I should check the others first before jumping to conclusions."

WHOOSH!

Without hesitation, I started jumping from one floating island to the next, moving as quickly as I could. I searched each island thoroughly, hoping to find a functioning portal. Hours passed, and my frustration grew with every unsuccessful attempt.

It became clear that none of the portals were working. They weren’t glowing, and no matter how hard I searched, I couldn’t figure out how to activate them. It was as if all the portals had shut down, either permanently or temporarily, leaving me with no answers what to do next.

"Ah, fuck this!!!" I yelled, my blood was boiling. Without thinking, I slammed my fist into the ground in frustration. The moment my punch made contact, the entire island beneath me shook violently and began to collapse.

RUMBLE!

Oops! I forgot that I’ve gotten so strong to the point that I could destroy an island with just a single punch. As the island crumbled beneath me, I quickly jumped to another floating island to avoid going down with it.

"Phew! That was a close one... I guess I should control my anger and calm down for now," I said to myself, taking in a deep breath and trying to calm myself down.

Since none of the portals were working and there was nothing left for me to do here anymore, I decided it was time to leave this floating island and head back to the beach.

Without wasting another moment, I bent my knees, preparing for a massive leap. I focused on the land below me in the distance, taking aim. Then, with all the power I could muster, I pushed off the ground and launched myself into the air. WHOOSH! The wind whipped past me as I soared downward, adrenaline rushing through my veins.

Welp, for now, I’ll focus on exploring this unknown, mysterious world first. The aliens? I guess I’ll have to save my revenge for later... but I have a feeling it won’t be long before I get my chance again.
