Chapter 79: Finding Land

"Raaargh!!! Freedom!!!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, my voice echoing across the endless expanse of the ocean. The bright warmth of the sun hit my face, and I couldn’t help but close my eyes and enjoy it for a moment. The fresh air filled my lungs, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I could finally breathe normally.

Finally! Woohoo! Ah, it’s been such a long time since I’ve been able to breathe in oxygen again! I couldn’t help but realize how important oxygen is, as well as being grateful for it.

After a short while, once my excitement had settled, I looked around, taking in my surroundings. The sea stretched endlessly in every direction, vast and mesmerizing. Above, the sky was a brilliant bright blue, scattered with fluffy white clouds. There was no land in sight, but I didn’t care. Just being out here, free from the suffocating darkness of the depths below, was enough to leave me satisfied and happy.

"Alright," I muttered, running a hand through my wet hair, pushing away the droplets of water clinging to my face and hair strands. "First things first, I need to figure out where the hell I am."

Looking up at the vast, bright sky once again, I couldn’t help but notice the countless floating islands still suspended high above me, drifting peacefully in the air.

Despite the scene’s beauty, there was something missing—there were no superhumans falling into the ocean like before. I furrowed my brow, a sinking feeling creeping in as I realized what this meant. The final trial was probably over by now, which explained why I wasn’t seeing any superhumans around anymore.

I started thinking. Hmm... if the final trial is already over, can I still use the portal up there to return to the colossal alien spaceship? I couldn’t help but wonder.

The thought of going back lingered in my mind, and the reason was simple—revenge. Now that I’ve grown so much stronger, I believe I might stand a chance against the aliens. Yet, if I’m being honest with myself, I still have doubts. Their advanced weapons and barrier shields are no joke, and I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d actually be able to break through those barrier shields this time.

However, there was one major problem right now that I had to face. In order to reach one of the floating islands above, I would need to make a powerful jump. But to generate the necessary force for such a leap, I needed something solid to step on, something to act as a solid base to push off from.

The seawater beneath me, though vast and endless, offered no solid surface to provide the stability or power needed for the jump. Without a solid foothold, I was left with no way to muster the strength required to reach the floating island in the sky. In short, until I could find an island or a large expanse of land, only then I would be able to make the jump for it.

Welp, for now, the best course of action is to search for land first.

SWIM! SWIM! SWIM!

It hadn’t even been a few minutes before I found myself surrounded by more sea monsters emerging from all directions. Their movements were swift and relentless, as though they had been lying in wait for the perfect moment to strike me.

ROAAARRR!!!

However, I wouldn’t exactly describe their behavior as an attack. It felt more instinctual, as if they were entirely driven by their hunger. To them, I must have seemed like an easy meal drifting along the water. That was the real reason they were approaching me, their primal instincts guiding them toward what they thought was prey.

Tch! There seems to be no end to these goddamn sea monsters... Ugh, how annoying...

...

...

PUNCH! KICK! SMACK!

After what felt like an eternity, the water around me had turned into a bloodbath. The seawater was stained crimson, thick with the blood of countless sea monsters, and the area was temporarily submerged in a red haze. Even after slaying so many sea monsters, there was still no end to them. More just kept coming.

Damn these sea monsters!

Their persistence was maddening. For some unknown reason, they just wouldn’t leave me alone. Even though they must have recognized my strength by now, they still preyed on me, as if they were unaware—or perhaps indifferent—to the danger I posed. I began to wonder if it had something to do with my size. Could it be that my smaller stature made me seem like an easier target? Maybe that’s why they perceived me as less of a threat and more of a potential meal.

The thought kept bugging me as I fought off yet another wave of these relentless sea monsters. At this point, yeah, it was pretty clear—my small size definitely made me look like an easy prey or target—great for them, but a real headache for me.

...

...

A few hours later...

On a beautiful, sunny day out in the breathtaking vast ocean, I didn’t know the exact time right now, but judging by the position of the sun and the clouds above, I figured it was probably around noon. Of course, it was just an estimation, based on what I could see and observe around me.

At this moment, I took a full 360-degree look around, but all I saw was still an endless expanse of seawater stretching in every direction. No matter how much I think about it, it was kind of crazy just how vast this ocean is.

Ugh, this ocean is so damn big... Dammit, are there seriously no islands or land nearby? I couldn’t help but wonder. It felt like I was just floating out here with nothing but water as far as the eye could see.

With no real idea of where to go, I figured I’ll just follow the direction of where the sun is for now. It seemed like the easiest way to move forward without overthinking things, even if it was just for the moment.

Alright, I’ll just let the sun guide me for now, I thought, deciding to go along with that idea for the time being.

"Hoorah!!! Time to increase the pace!!!" I said to myself, feeling pumped as I increased my swimming speed to the max, pushing myself harder with every stroke. "Raaargh!!!"

SWIM! SWIM! SWIM!
