Chapter 59: Alien Interruption

The world went silent.

I couldn’t hear anything, not the distant clamor of battle, not John’s increasingly frantic voice. My body was unresponsive, floating in the void of unconsciousness, and yet there was something strangely calming about it. No more pain. No more torment. Just... nothing.

At this point, I’m not sure whether I’m still alive or dead, but since I haven’t heard the "Game Over!" notification from the system, I figure I must have just lost consciousness. In short, I’m pretty sure I’m not dead yet. Well, maybe...

...

...

I had no idea how much time had passed. It could’ve been minutes or hours, but when I finally opened my eyes again, I heard a loud "PAA!"

SLAP!

It appeared John had slapped me hard across the face. "Hey, wake up, you fucking bastard! How dare you make me wait for twenty minutes! Holy shit! I can’t believe you wasted my time for no reason!" His voice was a mix of annoyance and anger, and the sting on my cheek didn’t help.

I blinked, trying to focus, and noticed my wounds had been completely bandaged up. It looked like either John or the undead goblins had patched me up. But why? I wasn’t sure, but I figured it had something to do with John wanting to talk to me about vampires. Maybe he thought I’d have more to say once I woke up.

I rubbed my forehead, feeling a headache coming on, but tried to push it aside. Whatever the reason, it didn’t change the fact that John was pissed, and I had a lot of explaining to do.

Well, based on the fact that John seemed to be interested in me, I figured I could try to manipulate him a little. Maybe I could say a few good things to please him, make him happy, and perhaps—just maybe—he would go easy on torturing me? Well, who knows? But I’d say there’s no harm in giving it a try and seeing how things go.

SLAP!

John slapped me again, more forcefully this time. "Hey! Are you even listening to me?! Since you’re finally awake, say something already, goddammit! Ugh, seriously!" His voice was tight with frustration, and I could see the annoyance building up in his expression.

Ugh, dammit... even though I’m wide awake, I can still feel the dizziness lingering, making everything feel a little off. The headache pounding in my skull isn’t helping either. It’s tough to focus with this constant throb in my head, and I can barely keep my thoughts straight. I guess I need to rest more to recover and actually function properly—let alone have a decent conversation with John right now.

"Hmph! I guess you’re still not fully recovered," John said, his voice thick with irritation. He crossed his arms, glaring down at me as if my condition were somehow my fault. "Fine, rest up now! I’ll be back tomorrow! You’d better be ready by then, or things are only going to get worse for you. Trust me, you’ll regret it even more."

His words were sharp, dripping with frustration, before he turned around and stomped out of the torture room. I could hear his heavy footsteps echoing down the hallway as he left, the anger practically radiating off him with every step.

Fuck... I wonder when I’ll finally be able to upgrade or level up my regeneration skill. Right now, it heals way too slow to be useful in real fights. Ugh, I don’t know what’s going on, but hopefully, there’ll be a way to evolve it and make my regeneration skill stronger in the future.

At this moment, I tried to break free and escape, but it was useless. My efforts were futile, and the pressure of the collar around my neck was making every movement feel sluggish and heavy. Dammit, this restriction collar is draining too much of my strength.

On top of that, the wounds on my body still hadn’t healed properly yet, leaving me weaker than I should be. I couldn’t push my limits in this kind of state. Oh well, no use stressing about it now. I guess I’ll just have to rest up for now and get ready for whatever bullshit John plans to do to me tomorrow. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me feel sick. I already know tomorrow is going to be pure hell for me.

After a few hours of being lost in thought, thinking about the good times on Earth, I eventually fell asleep without even realizing it.

...

...

The next morning...

CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!

I heard birds chirping outside. The sound wasn’t that loud, but I could still hear it. It was enough to remind me that I wasn’t completely alone here in this floating city, even though most of the time, everything here felt so quiet.

By now, I felt so much better than yesterday. I sighed, and suddenly, Sasha came to my mind. Man, I really missed her healing power. When she was alive and healing me, I hardly felt any pain. But now, without a Healer by my side, it just meant that I was going to experience pain to the fullest from now on.

Well, I wonder where the hell is John right now? Is he coming yet?

It was at this moment, speaking of the devil, I suddenly heard footsteps of someone approaching:

STEP-STEP! TAP-TAP!

Well, this is it. This is where my nightmare is about to begin. Ah, this makes me wanna cry so badly. I just wish all of this shit would end quickly so that I can escape this hell.

BA-DUM! HEARTBEAT!

My heart was racing rapidly as I sensed John getting closer and closer, and then, out of nowhere, he suddenly appeared in front of me, scaring the shit out of me.

"Surprise motherfucker!!!" John yelled right in my ear.

"Aaahhh!!!" I freaked out.

"Haha! Good morning! Guess you’re feeling much better today, huh? Well, that’s good news," John said, grinning. "Alright, I’m not letting you off this time, so you better start telling me how you know about vampires."

I hesitated for a second before replying. "Sure, I’ll tell you, but why should I do it for free? I mean, you’re gonna kill me anyway, so why does it matter if I know about vampires or not? Honestly, I don’t see any point in wasting my time telling you about it. If anything, I’d rather you just start torturing me now and get this over with quickly," I said.

John smirked, but I could tell he was really pissed. "You know, you’re really starting to get on my nerves. It seems like you’re not even scared of death, let alone getting torture. But of course, nothing in this world is free, right? So, here’s the deal: if you answer my questions about how you know about vampires, I’ll torture you less and end your life quicker. How about that? Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?"

"I would undoubtedly say yes, but knowing what kind of person you are, you’re probably not going to keep your promise anyway. So, no thanks," I said impatiently. "Alright, now stop wasting my time and get started already!"

"Grrr!!! Y-You son of a bi—!!!" John said.

WHOOSH!

Before John could finish talking, his words were abruptly cut off. A massive portal materialized out of thin air right next to us, its sudden appearance swallowing up the tension in the air.

"Goddammit! What is it now?!!" John snapped, clearly furious.

The moment we saw the portal, we instantly knew that the aliens were coming—though we had no clue what their purpose was this time. In any case, it definitely wasn’t going to be good news for sure.
