Chapter 53: John’s True Color

The undead goblins shuffled closer, forming a tight circle around us. Their glowing blue eyes seemed to pierce right through us, unblinking and soulless. Instinctively, we got into defensive stances, weapons ready, but come on—what was the point? We all knew we were outmatched to begin with. John just stood there, arms crossed, watching us like some smug final boss.

"Well," John finally said, smirking like he was thoroughly enjoying this, "killing you guys too fast wouldn’t be any fun, now would it? So here’s the deal—let’s play a little game. If you can last ten minutes against my undead minions without giving up, I’ll reward you with a painless death. Sounds fair, right? But if you can’t..." He let out a creepy, giddy laugh. "Then I’m gonna have to torture you all to death! Bahaha! Ah, I can’t wait to drink your blood as well and absorb your life force! Hehe! This is going to be so much fun! Don’t you think?!"

"Torture us?!" Thorin barked, gripping his greatsword so tightly that it looked like he might snap it in half. "I’ve been wondering why you saved us from the goblins. Turns out, it wasn’t out of goodwill. From the start, you’ve just wanted to play with our lives, haven’t you?!" Thorin was furious. "John! I’m really disappointed in you! I thought you were better than this! But now, I see why you’ve embraced the path of black magic—because you’re nothing but an evil bastard!"

At first, we were grateful to John for saving our lives. Without his help, we wouldn’t have survived this trial. However, as soon as he started talking about torturing us, it became clear that John hadn’t saved us out of any sense of goodwill. It felt as though he had only done it to toy with our lives for his own twisted amusement, as if our survival was nothing more than a game to him—a means to satisfy his sick desires.

Now, looking back, I can see why I always had that bad feeling about him. There was something off, something darker beneath his actions—something that now feels all too clear.

John glared at us, his frustration clearly visible on his face. "Hmph! You guys sure talk a lot for someone who is about to die. Well, I’m not going to stand here and argue with my food. So, I’ll give you guys a choice: either you play the little game with me, or you endure unimaginable pain—pain so excruciating, you’ll wish you were dead instead of alive. The decision is all yours, but make it quick, because I’m not in the mood to wait around. Five minutes max. That’s all you guys got."

"Shut the fuck up! We don’t care about your stupid little game!" Thorin yelled, his voice sharp and angry. "We’re all gonna die anyway, so we’ve got nothing to lose. With that said, we’ve already decided to fight till the end!"

Thorin didn’t hesitate, didn’t even look back at us—just went ahead and decided everything on his own.

Whoa, slow down, Thorin! Dammit, we’re supposed to talk this out first! Seriously, what the hell are you even thinking?! Why did you start making decisions without even asking us first?!

Then, as I looked at everyone else’s expressions, it seemed they were all in agreement with Thorin’s decision. Hmm, I guess they all knew that no matter what options they chose, the outcome would still be the same—we were all going to die in the end regardless. So, might as well fight till the bitter end, just like Thorin had said. At least then, dying wouldn’t feel so unsatisfying, knowing that we had already tried our best.

Ah, fuck it! Let’s just fight I guess. Even though I don’t wish to fight John right now, but it looks like I can’t avoid it after all.

"Welp, whatever," John muttered, his voice carrying a clear hint of annoyance. "It’s not like you guys have a choice anyway. Jeez, I can’t believe I wasted my time talking to my food. Tch, I should’ve just done whatever I wanted from the start."

With that, John turned his back on us, a faint sneer tugging at the corner of his lips. His patience had worn thin, and he wasn’t in the mood for prolonged arguments or resistance.

"Alright," John said, his tone cold and firm as he addressed his undead army. "I’ll get going first. We’ll meet at the mansion underground, so bring them there. Oh, and also make sure not to damage my food too much. I prefer them fresh and alive, not dead."

The undead soldiers groaned in response and began moving to carry out the order. John didn’t wait around to watch—he simply walked off, heading west toward where the mansion is. The mansion was so enormous and towering—so tall, in fact, that even from where we were standing right now, we could still see its massive structure clearly, despite being so far away.

My first thought upon seeing John leaving was the word "Food." It seemed he referred to us as his food for some reason. Suddenly, a chilling realization struck me. Wait, does that mean John is a cannibal who enjoys eating humans? I mean, he even said he prefers his food fresh and alive. If that’s not cannibalism, then I don’t know what that is. Fuck! Now that I think about it, this situation might be way worse than I anticipated.

Goddammit! I don’t know what’s going to happen to us. But it seems John not only wants to torture us but also plans to eat us! As I spent my time thinking and feeling nervous, Thorin, without waiting for anyone, made his first move and initiated the fight right away.

"Die!!! You filthy undead goblin bastards!" Thorin shouted as he charged into battle.

Ah! There was no time to think too much right now—me and the others followed suit, immediately joining Thorin in fighting the undead monsters. After all, it was too late to run away anyway, especially since the undead goblin army had completely surrounded us, leaving us no room to escape. Having no choice, we had to fight with everything we had and hope for the best.

Dammit! Fuck you, John! Not only that do you want to torture us, but you’re also a goddam cannibal too! Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you, man?!
