Chapter 54: Surprise Visitor

ROAAARRR!!!

...

...

Roughly fifteen minutes had passed since the battle began...

As the battle dragged on, every blow of my punch and kick grew heavier, each step slower than the last. The undead goblins swarmed around us, relentless and merciless. Thorin, despite his fury, was slowing down as well, his greatsword trembling in his grasp. We couldn’t keep this up. We knew it, but there was no retreat—no escape.

Eventually, we were all overwhelmed, beaten, and left on the verge of collapse. However, the undead goblins didn’t kill us. Instead, they carried some of us while dragging the others as they made their way to the mansion. Along the way, we were too exhausted to resist, and one by one, we slipped into unconsciousness.

...

...

We had no idea how much time had passed, but when we finally opened our eyes again, we found ourselves deep within the mansion’s underground dungeon. It was a dark, damp, and oppressive place, literally the perfect setting for John to carry out whatever twisted desires he had for us.

The silence was suffocating, the cold, damp stone walls pressed in around us, and the faint echoes of our breathing filled the air. It became clear that escape was impossible, leaving us to wonder what horrors awaited us in this nightmarish prison.

With six of us crammed into this small prison cell, sitting shoulder to shoulder, there was only slightly enough room to stretch, making the situation unbearably uncomfortable. Just beyond the iron bars, two undead goblin guards stood motionless by the entrance, their faintly glowing blue eyes fixed on the iron door. Every now and then, one of them would shift or grunt, breaking the otherwise eerie silence of the underground dungeon.

Additionally, the only source of light in this underground prison came from the fire torches mounted on the stone walls. The flames flickered weakly, casting wavering shadows across the space. However, even with the torches, this place still remained dim and gloomy, with the corners fading into faint darkness.

W-Wait, hold on. Suddenly, I realized we had all lost our powers. It was then that I noticed a strange collar around my neck. I could feel a faint trace of magical energy emanating from it. My first thought was that this must be some kind of restriction collar, one powerful enough to suppress our strength and abilities.

Dammit! As I tried to feel my strength, it hit me—my power had been cut down by at least 75%. I could feel the difference, that sense of resistance weighing me down. I figured it must be the same for Thorin and the others. That’s probably why Thorin didn’t even bother trying to break free from this place. His current strength just wasn’t enough to face those S-Rank Undead Goblins guarding the entrance iron door. We were completely outmatched, and there was no way we could fight our way out of this situation at this moment.

Now, the real question is, where the hell did John even get his hands on these restriction collars? Seriously, that guy is way too mysterious. To think such a simple-looking steel collar could have the power to reduce up to 75% of our total strength—that’s just crazy, no matter how I try to wrap my head around it.

Fuck... it really does feels like John isn’t giving us any mercy, let alone a chance to escape from this place. Furthermore, there doesn’t seem to be a time limit for this 4th trial either, meaning John could literally take his own sweet time torturing us before completing this trial and advancing to the final trial or 5th trial.

Suddenly, we heard footsteps of someone approaching:

STEP-STEP! TAP-TAP!

In an instant, we knew that John was coming.

BA-DUM! HEARTBEAT!

Oh god, the monster is coming! My heart was pounding fast. Glancing at Thorin and the others’ expressions, it seemed they were feeling the same fear as me. I could see the sheer terror in their faces, their bodies trembling uncontrollably, and the faint, trembling sounds of fear escaping from their mouths.

For some reason, Thorin had lost all his confidence as a warrior. It felt as though his warrior spirit had completely vanished. From the brave guy I once knew, he was now trembling in fear. However, I couldn’t blame him for acting so out of character. After all, the person we were currently dealing with was a deranged bastard who seemed to take pleasure in torturing others and viewing his victims as nothing more than prey or food.

Ah, screw it! This isn’t the first time I’ve been in a situation like this. Like that time when the aliens tortured me on their spaceship—it was brutal, but I got through it. Sure, it’s going to be very painful, but whatever. I’ll endure it. Honestly, I just wish I could fast-forward time by a few months and skip the whole torturing process.

CLANG!

Eventually, John arrived, startling us as he punched the iron bars with a loud clang. "Welcome to my dungeon!" he said with a chilling laugh. "Tell me, how do you like it here? It sucks, right? Hahaha! Don’t worry, though—I’m actually in a pretty good mood right now, so I’ve decided to go a little easy on you guys. But don’t get too hopeful yet," he added with a twisted grin. "Because it’s still going to hurt a lot. So, I hope you guys are prepared for it."

"John, you bastard! How dare you do this to us?! You should be ashamed of yourself! If you’re going to kill us, at least do it humanely! What the hell do you mean by ’torture’?! We’re not animals, goddammit! At this point, you’re not much different from those scumbag aliens!" Thorin said, his voice filled with rage.

Suddenly, John burst into laughter. "Hahahaha!!! Bahahaha!!!" He laughed for a good 10 seconds before finally stopping and shaking his head. "Thorin, you’re one funny motherfucker! It’s hard to believe someone like you is acting so out of character. Seriously, where did your warrior spirit go? If you’re a warrior, then act like one and face whatever comes your way! Jeez, fucking warrior, my ass! You’re just a coward at this point. Well, whatever. Nothing you say is gonna matter anyway, so it doesn’t really change anything."

WHOOSH!

Out of nowhere, before Thorin could reply or say a word, a massive portal suddenly materialized in the hallway right beside John. It happened so fast—one second everything was normal, and the next, this swirling distortion of light and energy popped up out of nowhere. From within the portal, an alien soldier stepped through, his figure towering and imposing. The dim hallway faintly lit up from the glow coming from the portal, and I couldn’t help but feel a shiver run down my spine. I could tell Thorin and the others also felt the same.

John, who’d been acting all confident just a moment ago, was now completely frozen. His eyes were wide, his jaw clenched, and you could see the fear creeping in fast. It was like all that bravado had vanished in an instant. I could tell he was wondering what the hell was going on; why this alien soldier was suddenly showing up, and what it meant for us.

"Fuck! What the hell is going on?!" John said, his voice filled with panic.
