Chapter 52: Danger Approaching
Chapter 52: Danger Approaching
The goblins, now twisted and reanimated under John’s control, stood unnervingly still, their glowing blue eyes locked onto us with eerie precision. They resembled soldiers, poised and awaiting orders. Somehow, John not only had full control over the goblin soldiers but also commanded the four Goblin Captains.
Thanks to John, we now had an army of roughly 250 goblin soldiers and 4 Goblin Captains on our side. However, that was still nothing compared to our enemy, who had at least a few thousand goblin soldiers, along with two Goblin Chiefs and a mighty Goblin King.
While we were at a disadvantage in terms of numbers, considering how powerful John was, I figured we’d be fine. Dammit, I hate to admit it, but once again, it was John who saved us this time... Honestly, since he saved our lives, I guess if he wanted to kill us and absorb us, we wouldn’t have any right to complain, right?
W-Wait a minute... does that mean my judgment was wrong all this time? So, John wasn’t a bad guy after all and is actually a good guy? Ah, now I kinda feel a little guilty. Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t have judged a book by its cover after all... Oh well, my bad. I guess I should start looking at John more positively from now on...
Naturally, Thorin and the others were taken aback as well when they discovered that John was not only a mage and an assassin, but also a necromancer. The revelation left them with a mix of astonishment and curiosity. They probably had many questions they were eager to ask him, their minds racing with the possibilities of what else John might be capable of.
However, despite everyone’s curiosity, there was no time for discussions. We all understood that chatting would have to wait until we got the situation under control first. Our immediate priority was clear: dealing with the monster horde and ensuring the safety of the Blue Crystal Altar, while everything else could wait until later.
ROAAARRR!!!
...
...
In just the span of five minutes, the tide of battle shifted rapidly. At first, we were losing, but now we’re slowly gaining the upper hand. And each time when a goblin was slain, John would use their corpses to expand his goblin soldiers, resulting in his undead army growing larger and larger in numbers.
Holy shit! What an overpowered skill! Damn, this is getting insane... to think John can summon an infinite number of undead goblins as long as there are corpses available. Man, this is too much. I knew that John was powerful, but how could the power gap between us and him be this vast? Crazy.
I don’t know how John got so strong, but from the looks of it, I don’t even think someone like Thorin could challenge him at this point. Well, this is really unfortunate. While I know I won’t die thanks to my regeneration ability, sadly, Thorin and the others are likely not going to survive this. It was obvious that John was going to be the last one standing and advancing to the final trial.
Ah, I don’t really want to fight John, but I guess it can’t be helped after all. Welp, whatever, no point in stressing about it now—we’ll just go with the flow. If I have to die for John to advance to the next trial, so be it. I mean, after all, John did save us this round anyway, right? So, technically speaking, I kinda owe him.
However, why do I still have a bad feeling about this...?
...
...
By morning, as the sun began to rise, we noticed that the number of goblins was steadily decreasing. It seemed like the battle was finally coming to an end. Before I knew it, all the goblins had been slain, and there were no signs of another wave of monsters being spawned. At last, it looked like we could finally get some good rest after enduring so much.
With the battle over, John’s undead army had grown even larger than before. Not only did he now command the enormous mighty Goblin King, but he also had the two Goblin Chiefs and the four Goblin Captains under his control.
At first, I thought that was it—but then John did something even more crazy. He began absorbing the life force of the Goblin King, Goblin Chiefs, and the Goblin Captains, making himself even far stronger than before. Damn, I didn’t realize he could still absorb them, even though they were no longer alive and had turned into undead goblins. Unbelievable. What a terrifying skill.
"Uh... guys?" I said, breaking the awkward silence. "What do we do now?"
"I don’t know," Cain replied. "From the looks of it, I guess John is the one most likely to advance to the final trial."
"Yeah... I mean even with all six of us, I don’t think we can beat him," Sylvara added, sounding completely defeated.
Sasha let out a heavy sigh. "Is there really no way for all of us to survive this? Do we all have to die just so one person can succeed?"
"Well, who knows," Thorin said, his tone calm and resolute, as though he had already accepted his fate. "But I figure we’re as good as dead if we don’t make it to the final trial." He paused, his gaze unwavering. "That said, if I’m going to die anyway, I’ll fight till the end. At least then, I’ll know that I already gave it my all. That way, dying wouldn’t feel so unsatisfying. Well, at least that’s what I believe as a Warrior."
I sighed at Thorin. It seemed that he had made up his mind about what to do next. That unwavering warrior spirit, the one that refused to back down no matter the odds, seemed to burn brighter than ever within him.
At this moment, John slowly turned around and faced us. It was as if he had something important to say, but just when we expected him to speak, his expression shifted into a sinister smirk. Without warning, he snapped his fingers, and in an instant, we were completely surrounded by his menacing undead goblin army.
Well, GG, son! Yup, this is it! We’re totally screwed now! Fuck!
