Chapter 42: Conflict

At this moment, in the center of this vast colosseum, a massive holographic board appeared, displaying the following message for everyone to see:

[Trial One: Defeat all the Baby T-Rexes within fifteen minutes]

The hologram board lingered for about five seconds before vanishing into thin air. As soon as it disappeared, the 100 Baby T-Rexes immediately charged at us with terrifying speed. Their jaws hung open, drool glistening as it dripped from their razor-sharp teeth. There was no mistaking their intent—they were starving, and we were on their menu.

ROAR!

"Everyone, stick together! We’ve got this!" Thorin, the leader of our party, shouted, his booming voice cutting through the chaos.

"Yes, party leader!" We all responded in unison, though my own words felt hollow compared to the energy of the others.

[Name: Thorin]

[Level: 200 (S-Rank)]

Thorin, a mighty S-Rank Berserker from the World of Magnus—well, at least, that’s what he told me when we introduced ourselves earlier—was easily the strongest guy in our party, no contest. And I don’t just mean in a "he looks tough" kind of way. This dude was built like a mountain, and I’m pretty sure he could flatten anyone who looked at him the wrong way.

And as if that wasn’t enough, he was an absolute giant. Eight feet tall, with muscles that would put even professional bodybuilders to shame. His arms looked like they could crush a grown man with one flex, and his shoulders were so broad they made me feel like a child or a twig standing next to him—easily twice as wide as mine. I swear, he seemed like the kind of guy who could punch through a wall without even trying.

Then there was his weapon. A monstrous greatsword that had to be at least nine feet long, even taller than him. The blade itself looked like it could cleave a boulder in half, yet he wielded it with ease, as if it weighed no more than a broomstick. Seriously, I can’t help but wonder—Is this guy even human? What the hell does he eat? Entire cows? Lions? Tigers?

Jeez, even his face looked like it was sculpted for war: sharp, angular features, a strong jawline, and eyes that seemed to burn with a mix of determination and bloodlust. What’s more, his whole vibe screamed ’don’t mess with me.’ It was obvious you could pretty much tell he was just the type of guy who was always ready to smash something—or someone. Good grief, I couldn’t decide whether to be impressed or terrified.

Besides, now that I think about it, he does kinda resemble Guts from Berserk—the size, the weapon, the sheer presence... not exactly the same, but quite similar.

ROAR!

Oops, I almost forgot we’re in the middle of fighting these Baby T-Rexes.

...

...

Fifteen minutes later...

[You have slain a Level 195 Baby T-Rex!]

[You have slain a Level 200 Baby T-Rex!]

[You have slain a Level 185 Baby T-Rex!]

[You have slain a total of 100 Baby T-Rexes!]

[Leveled Up!]

[Leveled Up!]

[Leveled Up!]

...

...

[Level: 14 >> 98]

Holy shit! To think I actually gained 84 levels just like that... is this what you call a blessing in disguise?! Damn, maybe getting captured by the aliens isn’t so bad after all. And who would’ve thought that this trial would turn out to be so rewarding for me? Haha! Nice!

Without wasting any time, I immediately spent all 84 of my stat points on strength. Considering how low my level was, I wasn’t able to do much damage against the S-Rank Baby T-Rexes earlier, so for now, I decided to focus on increasing my strength this time in order to deal more damage so that way I’ll be more useful to the party.

[STR: 87 >> 171]

After we had slain all 100 Baby T-Rexes, the massive holographic board appeared once again in the center of this vast colosseum, displaying the following message:

[Congratulations! Trial One Completed!]

Honestly, if it weren’t for Thorin and the others, I probably would have failed this first trial by now. I’m honestly the weakest and most useless one here. If it weren’t for Sasha, our Healer, I’d likely have died countless times already. And even though I could slowly regenerate back to life, I likely wouldn’t have enough time to complete the first trial within the given time limit.

But thankfully, Sasha has done a great job keeping me—and the entire party—alive. Still, I feel bad for being useless though. I just hope they don’t get mad at me for being a burden to the party.

[You’ve worked hard! Please rest for now and wait for the next trial to be announced.]

"Ugh, I’m exhausted...!"

"Phew! Thank god we made it through the first trial!"

"Seriously, those damn Baby T-Rexes are no joke! They’re way stronger than they look, despite being kinda cute!"

I could see everyone was exhausted from the fight, lying on the ground to rest. I was tired too, of course. Honestly, this was probably the hardest battle I’ve ever fought—my first time facing an S-Rank opponent, and to top it off, it was a damn dinosaur too.

After about fifteen minutes of rest, I was starting to feel a bit better. Everyone else was still on the ground, trying to catch their breath and recover. Then, out of nowhere, John—an Assassin Class—suddenly stood up, walked over, and grabbed my neck, lifting me off the ground with one hand. I could see veins popping on the side of his forehead, and he looked absolutely pissed off for some reason, though I wasn’t sure why.

"Hey, you bastard!!" John snapped, his voice full of anger.

I blinked, confused. "Yes, is something wrong...?" I asked, trying to understand what was going on.

His grip on my neck tightened. "Shut the fuck up! What do you mean, what’s wrong?!" he shouted, his voice harsh. "Fuck you! If it wasn’t for you, we would’ve cleared the first trial easily! Goddammit! Why the hell is there a weakling like you in our party?! Seriously, you should’ve just died back there! You worthless piece of shit!"
