Chapter 41: Baby T-Rexes

The alien soldier’s words hung in the air like a death sentence. My instincts screamed at me to focus. Whatever these "trials" were, I knew they weren’t going to be easy and most likely many of us would die in the process.

Around me, the other superhumans tensed up, each reacting in their own way. Some looked confident, powers practically radiating off them. Others? Not so much. A couple of them looked like they might puke right there on the spot, their faces pale and drenched in cold sweat, as the weight of the trials began to sink in.

But still, not a single one of us dared to complain or question the aliens. We all knew the drill by now—speaking up, protesting, or begging for mercy would do nothing. It wouldn’t change a thing. The aliens had already made their decision. The trials were going to happen no matter what, and we would either make it through or... we wouldn’t. No one ever really had the choice to begin with.

It was at this moment, one of the superhumans raised her hand, her expression clearly indicating that she wanted to ask something. She waited for a brief moment before speaking up, her voice cutting through the tense silence. "Could you please provide us with more information about the trials? What exactly is expected of us? What should we be preparing for, and what do we need to do to succeed?"

The alien soldier at the front took a step forward, his stride heavy and purposeful, each movement exuding an intimidating aura. For a brief moment, my heart raced with the fear that he was about to strike, that the end was near. But to my surprise, a smile crept across his face, and his voice, though calm, carried an unsettling confidence as he spoke. "There’s not much to explain," he said, his gaze shifting between us. "Once the first trial begins, you’ll understand."

He paused, as if weighing something before continuing. "Oh, and don’t worry—most of the trials are simple and straightforward, even children could figure them out quickly. The challenges aren’t designed to be impossible. All you need to do is to give it your all and survive. If you don’t, well... let’s just say failure isn’t something you want to experience." His eyes flickered briefly, as if relishing the idea.

He let the silence hang for a moment before finishing with a final, chilling reminder. "Alright, that’s all. The first trial starts in ten minutes. Use this time to clear your mind, gather your thoughts, and prepare. Whatever happens next... it all depends on you."

After saying that, the alien soldiers stepped into the portal and vanished, leaving us alone here. While we waited for the next ten minutes to pass, we began introducing ourselves. None of us knew whether the trial would require teamwork or a solo effort. But just in case, we knew we had to be prepared for both possibilities.

...

...

Ten minutes later...

Suddenly, with a low hum and a burst of light, the enormous portal materialized once again, its swirling energy flooding the colosseum with an otherworldly glow. Moments later, five alien soldiers emerged from the shimmering gateway, their towering figures moving with a calculated, disciplined grace. Without hesitation, the alien soldier at the front—radiating an aura of authority—raised a hand. His voice, deep and commanding, cut through the tension like a blade.

"Alright, time is up! The first trial will start now!"

RUMBLE!

In an instant, nearly a hundred small portals erupted around us, their swirling edges barely visible before they materialized fully, surrounding us from every direction. The air hummed with a strange, otherworldly energy as the portals stabilized, and before we could even react, 100 Red Baby T-Rexes began to step out from the portals. The ground trembled with each step they took, their tiny yet fierce forms emerging into the open.

The voice of the alien soldier cut through the tension, dripping with smug amusement. "Ah, just a bit of advice before things get messy. These aren’t your ordinary T-Rexes. No, these are genetically modified. Stronger, faster, and far more deadly than the ones you’ve read about in history books or seen in your wildest nightmares. They’ve been enhanced, sharpened, tailored to kill. So don’t let your guard down for even a second, or you’ll regret it—believe me."

The alien soldier paused, his laugh echoing ominously through the air. "Anyway, we’re done here. Good luck, everyone! We’ll see you in the next trial... well, of course, that’s if you’re all still alive by then. Bahahaha!"

Without waiting for a response, the five alien soldiers turned and stepped back into the portal, their forms vanishing as quickly as they’d come. Meanwhile, we were left in stunned silence, the weight of the situation sinking in. The Baby T-Rexes were now fully out, their eyes glowing with hunger and predatory intent.

ROAR!

"T-Rexes?! What in the world are those?!"

"Seriously, I’ve never heard of anything like that!"

"Whoa, it looks like a giant lizard standing on two legs! Never seen anything quite like this before!"

Everyone was clearly baffled by the sight of the Baby T-Rexes. Well, I don’t really blame them—after all, these creatures probably didn’t exist in their worlds. Although, I have to say, I was rather surprised too, to be able to see dinosaurs for the first time in real life.

Hmm... now that I look at them more closely, I’ve got to admit, these red Baby T-Rexes are rather kinda cute. The fancy and striking reddish colors on their bodies... I guess the aliens really did genetically modify them.

LEVEL SCAN!

As I activate my "Level Scan" skill to check the Baby T-Rexes’ level, I’m blown away by their power. Holy shit! How could a mere Baby T-Rex, barely even an adult, already be S-Rank level?!

Even though Level Scan is a passive skill, I can still turn it on and off at will. Thankfully, I have that control—otherwise, it would be really annoying to see level numbers floating above someone’s head 24/7.
