Chapter 40: Floating Colosseum

As I stood in line, waiting for my turn to step through the gigantic portal, the scene around me was anything but quiet. I watched as alien guards struck down any superhuman who dared to break the rules. Some were shoved, others dragged aside, and the unlucky ones endured brutal beatings.

The reason for their punishment was clear—chatting. From what I’d overheard, superhumans were strictly forbidden from talking to one another. We were expected to stand in absolute silence, our gazes fixed forward, as we waited for our turn to step into the portal.

It felt like the alien guards enjoyed enforcing this rule, relishing any excuse to show their authority. Watching it unfold, I couldn’t help but wonder if this silence was meant to instill fear and discipline or simply to remind us who held the power here.

...

...

A few hours later...

The moment I’d been waiting for was finally here. It didn’t feel like a victory or something to get excited about—it was just another step I had to take. A few more superhumans ahead of me, and then it would be my turn next. My heart was pounding in my chest, and my whole body felt like it was on edge, but it wasn’t from excitement. More like a reminder that I had no choice but to keep going.

I wasn’t sure what kind of danger lay ahead, but at this point, it was too late to back down now. I’d already come this far, so I might as well keep moving forward and see what happens. No point in overthinking about it.

"Stop shoving, you fucking idiots!" a voice snapped, cutting through the air with cold authority. It was one of the alien prison guards, towering over us, his eyes filled with nothing but disdain. "One at a time! Don’t even think about entering the portal on your own until we say it’s your turn!"

Jeez, what’s wrong with these aliens? Why are they always so angry at us... it’s like they get some kind of twisted satisfaction from making us miserable—constantly barking orders, glaring at us like we’re the scum of the galaxy.

A few minutes later, it was finally my turn to step into the portal. I could feel my heart beating faster as I stood in front of it, staring up at its sheer enormity. The portal loomed above me like some ancient, impossible structure, its edges crackling with energy. I couldn’t help but marvel at its size—it was massive, easily as big as a dinosaur, maybe even larger. It felt like I was standing in front of the entrance to another world, something beyond my comprehension.

For the time being, I was just waiting for the alien guards to give me the signal or permission to enter.

Roughly ten to fifteen seconds later, the two giant, 12-foot-tall alien guards finally spoke to me. In unison, they stepped aside with deliberate motion, their deep, rumbling voices echoing through the air. "Alright, go in," one of them said, his glowing, otherworldly eyes fixed on me.

Without wasting a second, I stepped into the enormous portal, the strange hum of its energy vibrating in the air around me. It felt almost alive, like it was waiting for me to make my move. But the truth was, I didn’t have much of a choice anyway. I had to go in quickly, or else they would beat the living shit out of me.

BLINK!

In an instant, I was transported to an entirely new world, and my first thought was: What the hell is this place? It looked like a massive colosseum straight out of ancient Rome, with towering stone walls and arches that seemed to stretch endlessly.

But there was one thing that blew my mind—this colosseum wasn’t grounded on the earth like I would’ve expected. No, it was floating—suspended high up in the beautiful blue sky, defying every law of gravity. Its edges seemed to hang in midair, supported by nothing, with only the vast endless sky stretching out beneath it.

In this vast colosseum, there are only seven superhumans, which is kinda strange... I could’ve sworn thousands of superhumans entered the portal earlier, so how is it that only seven of us are here, including me? Where did the others go? Did they all just disappear, or were they sent elsewhere?

Hmm, the more I think about it, the more it seems likely they were sent to a different location other than here. Yeah, that’s probably it.

Well, whatever. It’s not really my concern what the aliens are planning to do with the other superhumans. Right now, I just need to focus on surviving. That’s my priority. Everything else? Doesn’t really matter at the moment.

Ugh, as I stand here in this vast colosseum, I can’t help but notice how ridiculously bright it is here. The sun’s glaring down on us with such an intensity that makes everything feel almost too harsh. Wait... now that I think about it, it’s been such a long time since I’ve seen the sun like this. I’d almost forgotten what it felt like. It’s a strange kind of warmth—comforting, yet a little overwhelming. Ah, I miss it. The sunlight... it’s not just warm, it’s reassuring, almost reminding me of the peaceful times I had back on Earth.

RUMBLE!

Out of nowhere, a massive 25-foot portal materialized in front of us, its edges crackling with lightning energy. The air around it seemed to distort, vibrating with an almost unnatural force. Moments later, five towering alien soldiers, each standing at least 10 to 15 feet tall, stepped through the portal, their heavy footsteps shaking the ground beneath us. Their suits gleamed under the harsh light, reflecting an ominous, metallic sheen that made them appear even more formidable.

As the last alien soldier crossed the threshold, the first soldier in the front turned toward us, his voice booming with authority. "Welcome to our private worlds!" he declared. "It’s time to harvest the strongest superhumans! Survive the trials, and you will be rewarded greatly—beyond your wildest dreams!"
