The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 350 - 343 What Happened
Chapter 350: Chapter 343 What Happened
Gao Yuan and the others all arrived at Travi, a city without zombies, a city where, despite the light control, there was indeed electricity, a city that in many ways was not much different from before the arrival of the aliens—that was extremely rare.
In this city, Gao Yuan and his companions received the most lavish dinner and a grand welcome.
Yaral had already said that Israel had even restored agricultural production, so in the city of Travi, one could not only sense the traces of civilization but also eat fresh vegetables, supplied in unlimited quantities.
What was most scarce in the post-apocalyptic world? Everything was scarce.
But the scarcest of all had to be fresh vegetables. Vegetables couldn’t be stored long-term, so except for dehydrated ones, eating a bite of fresh vegetables in the post-apocalyptic world was undoubtedly extremely difficult.
Wild vegetables excluded.
For the Shenzhou people, after longing for vegetables for a long time, their desire far exceeded that for meat.
The craziest one was Li Yang, which truly surprised everyone. Gao Yuan, in order not to expose his biggest secret, hardly dared to eat his fill.
But Li Yang, he not only ate but also murmured.
"Wow, beautiful."
The chef had prepared all the vegetables as a salad, which left Li Yang slightly dissatisfied, but as soon as he put a sliced tomato into his mouth with a fork, his tears began to stream down uncontrollably.
Every Shenzhou person has the soul of a gourmet.
As Gao Yuan’s designated translator, Li Yang had to be with him. Therefore, during this high-standard welcome banquet, which also doubled as a meeting, it was quite unbecoming for a translator to be eating and crying.
"Why are you crying?"
Li Yang was startled for a moment. He quickly wiped his eyes with his hand and said in a low voice, "Crying? No, I’m not."
"You are, stop embarrassing us."
"Mm-hmm, got it."
Westerners eat salads, but they seem to rarely eat whole cucumbers or complete eggplants, and they certainly don’t stir-fry greens. So while Li Yang was relieved to be eating, he also felt it was a wasteful extravagance.
Yaral wasn’t accompanying them; he remained on the front line. Therefore, to greet and dine with Gao Yuan and his companions, there was an official from Mossad of Israel, a Government official, and someone from the military, since Andrew was a colonel. To maintain equality, they too had sent a colonel.
During such a global catastrophe, any news from the outside world was precious.
"Please, help yourselves. We have plenty of vegetables, do eat more," said one of the hosts.
Andrew was also there; he nodded and said with a satisfied look, "It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed fresh vegetables. This dinner is wonderful."
Andrew was the most valued among Gao Yuan and his group because he held a high military rank, commanded many people, and given the special relationship between America and Israel, it would have been abnormal for him not to receive special treatment.
But this also allowed Gao Yuan and his companions to attract less attention and seize the opportunity to eat more.
However, the Mossad representative paid unusual attention to Gao Yuan and Li Yang, and his seat was right beside Gao Yuan.
"Are you accustomed to the food? Would you like it prepared according to your preferences?"
Under normal circumstances, Li Yang would never have made any requests, but now, as if possessed by a ghost or driven by God, he said, "Could I have some cucumbers and tomatoes, uncut, just washed well?"
The Mossad representative passed the request to the waiter, instructing him twice before showing no further interest. It seemed he only intended to ensure the guests were well cared for, with no plans to say anything else.
It was at this moment that the Israeli military representative, the colonel, spoke in a grave voice, "We have some matters to discuss here, Colonel Marshall, I want to know what your plans are. If it’s convenient, could you share with us?"
Andrew exhaled, raised his hand, and said, "We want to go home. Of course, getting back to mainland America is difficult, so our plan is to head to Europa first, since many in our group are from Europa. But now the Suez Canal is blocked, and traveling by land has become somewhat difficult, so... we can only cross the Mediterranean Sea, or... find a way through the Suez Canal, and then through the Strait of Gibraltar. That’s the only option left.
"Have you considered staying here?"
The Israeli colonel offered a suggestion that Andrew had not contemplated before. He stood up, pressed a button on a projector, and once the projector cast its image on the wall, he pointed at the picture and said, "According to our intelligence, unidentified armed forces are highly active in Africa. They have occupied the Sinai Peninsula and taken control of the Suez Canal. Moreover, reliable intelligence indicates that they have seized Djibouti."
Li Yang suddenly dropped his fork, looking at the Israeli colonel in shock.
Gao Yuan almost bit his own tongue. He tried to keep his composure, but his face inevitably turned ugly.
"An astonishingly large force, as if emerging from underground, has taken a vast area in Africa. We don’t know their purpose or their exact numbers, but we are certain they have captured all military bases at the port of Djibouti."
This news was far more serious than the sanitation workers’ blockage of the Suez Canal.
Djibouti is a small country, but it is a transportation hub of Africa State. Djibouti’s port hosts bases from multiple countries, including France, America, Japan, Russia, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Shah.
And Shenzhou.
An attack on the military bases in Djibouti meant the sanitation workers had declared war on all the aforementioned countries.
But most importantly, Gao Yuan knew that the person they were supposed to contact was in Djibouti; their undercover agent in Africa was situated in Djibouti.
But now the Israeli side was saying Djibouti had been captured?
Gao Yuan lost his appetite. He had come a great distance only to be told that their primary destination had fallen. How could he possibly eat now?
The Israeli colonel continued soberly, "Now Egypt is occupied, the Suez Canal is under control, and Djibouti has been taken. From the Nile Delta to Djibouti, the long stretch of coastline is likely all blockaded. You can’t make it overland, nor can you sail across the Mediterranean Sea. You can’t go back home."
Andrew looked at Cahill, who, with a look of despair, said, "Damn, how am I going to explain this to the soldiers?"
The colonel said softly, "Europa’s losses are much more significant than ours. Even if you could return, you wouldn’t have a home to come back to. I’m sorry, but that is indeed the reality. Also, many of your women are about to give birth. I suggest you consider rallying your people to stay in Israel, as that would be the most beneficial choice for you."
For Israel, there was never an excess of population, and Israel had ways to disperse these high-quality soldiers, to employ them for the nation’s benefit without any adverse effects. The unborn children were equally precious. Even in an apocalyptic setting, the population growth was still valued.
With similar cultures and most people speaking the same language, and Israel’s losses not being severe, Gao Yuan felt that Andrew would end up being a commander without troops; most of his men would likely stay in Israel.
But for Gao Yuan, he only wanted to know what exactly was happening in Africa.
