The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 334 - 327: Necessary Process
Chapter 334: Chapter 327: Necessary Process
Because tracked vehicles are more likely to break down after long-distance travel, consume more fuel, and are heavier, tanks and tracked armored vehicles are basically transported by train or truck for long distances.
If a long trek is required, wheeled armored vehicles are the preferred choice because they are faster and more fuel-efficient, and these two advantages are extremely important for Gao Yuan and his team.
So, when it was truly time to set off, Andrew and Gao Yuan unanimously decided to completely abandon tracked vehicles, even if tanks were very effective in combat and had great firepower, they would definitely not be used.
The entire Spark Squad used two British-made Foxhound four-wheeled armored vehicles, and one American Stryker eight-wheeled armored vehicle, which was mainly used for transporting supplies.
Andrew’s ride was a Stryker wheeled armored command vehicle, but his armored vehicle was left among the rear convoy.
Leading the way in the front were the three armored vehicles of Gao Yuan’s team, as well as two additional Stryker armored vehicles driven by Americans, both of which were equipped with 105mm rifled cannons, a .50 caliber heavy machine gun, and a 7.62mm machine gun.
Having the two powerful armored vehicles lead the way made sense, as Gao Yuan’s vehicle flew the Shenzhou National Flag.
Just for that reason, Andrew had to agree to Gao Yuan and his team taking the lead.
Because if Gao Yuan and his team encountered a roadblock, there was at least a chance for negotiation, but if Andrew and his team encountered one, a confrontation was certain.
For the same reason, Gao Yuan also had Renato join him in his vehicle.
The speed was quite fast and they didn’t encounter any danger, but to avoid becoming a target for the Serpent People, Gao Yuan kept accelerating, going beyond the agreed five-kilometer distance.
Five kilometers was not safe enough; if the Serpent People attacked, they would definitely hit both the front and rear convoys in one fell swoop; but if they increased the distance to over ten kilometers, the Serpent People would target the rear convoy rather than the small one with only five vehicles in the front.
Everything was well arranged, but the combat vehicles were really uncomfortable, especially for those sitting in the rear compartment.
But the upside was they were sturdy, large, and most importantly, life-saving.
At first, there was some tension, but as they completely left the urban area of Kandahar, everyone gradually relaxed because most of the road ahead was uninhabited, which now meant safety.
At least until they approached the next town, everyone could relax a bit more.
With such a large convoy, and one that clearly was not to be trifled with, even if there were small bands of marauders, they wouldn’t dare make a move; as for encountering large bands of marauders, this possibility was actually quite small.
Therefore, Gao Yuan was quite optimistic about the journey within Afghan territory.
"Do you think we will encounter any attacks?"
Gao Yuan was asking Renato. Although his judgment was optimistic, he still wanted to hear Renato’s opinion, because this guy claimed to understand Afghans very well, making his assessment valuable.
"Attacks? That’s certain. If there are two Afghans who see the convoy from a distance, even if they know they can’t threaten the convoy at all, they will definitely shoot at the vehicles a few times. There’s no helping it; Americans are just too despised here."
After saying this at a leisurely pace, Renato, however, spoke indifferently, "But if you’re talking about a threatening attack, then I believe there won’t be one. They might vent their anger, but they won’t seek death."
Li Yang asked from the side, "What if someone fires an RPG at us?"
Renato shrugged his shoulders and responded, "There’s that possibility, but you have to understand that hitting a fast-moving car with an RPG is not so easy. So if someone’s vehicle gets hit, then it’s just their bad luck, buddy. Our journey is long, and there will definitely be deaths along the way. Who will die? Unlucky ones; that’s just the way it is, it can only be like that."
Renato made sense, but it seemed a bit too pessimistic. Gao Yuan asked, "Is there no way to avoid being attacked?"
"That’s impossible. As I said, as long as we’re spotted, even if it’s just a rock, they’ll throw it at us."
Having said that with absolute certainty, Renato laughed and said, "I’m just curious, why do you insist on being at the front rather than the back? Because the rear is definitely safer than the front."
Gao Yuan certainly couldn’t say it was to prevent attacks from aliens, and in case of an alien attack, those in front might still have a chance to escape, although just a possibility, but it would be safer than staying in the main convoy.
"Uh, to scout ahead, I think we’re more suited for that."
"Are you that noble?"
Renato was skeptical of what Gao Yuan said, but he didn’t know about the Serpent People’s way of attack, so he could not think of any reasonable explanation. Giving Gao Yuan a few doubtful glances, Renato could only say, "Alright, I can’t think of any other reason for now, so I’ll just believe you."
Just then, someone in the armored vehicle leading the way called out, "Foxhound One calling, we’ve encountered some scattered houses ahead of us. We could either pass through the village or take a detour."
Gao Yuan pondered the situation. It would be easy for their lead convoy to take a detour, but much harder for the vehicles trailing behind carrying supplies, ammunition, and fuel. So when faced with such a situation, it was up to the scouting convoy to fulfill its duty.
"Stop, let’s scout it with a drone."
After Gao Yuan spoke, Renato chimed in from the side, "Exactly. If there are people outside the house or on the rooftops, the drone will detect them. If the people are hiding inside the houses, then they will not be able to fire rocket launchers, and we’re safe in the armored vehicles from gunfire."
The convoy halted. When they were still over a thousand meters from the nearest house, Harry Kane launched a drone. A few minutes later, Harry Kane urgently spoke into the radio, "There are moving figures spotted; from the way they dodge, it’s clear that they’re humans, not zombies."
Gao Yuan felt that the most troublesome thing now was this scenario. To proceed without precautions would be to fear that the local people might launch an attack on the convoy. But to confirm that these people were not a threat, they would have to send someone to scout up close, which would be time-consuming.
Gao Yuan sighed and said, "What should we do?"
Panxin, without any hesitation, suggested, "Simple. We drive quickly past, then the main convoy dispatches armored vehicles to keep watch near the village. Once the convoy has passed, the watch vehicles can follow. This sort of thing can be resolved quite easily. Our task is to scout whether there’s a large military force on the road. If not, then there’s no need to waste time."
Gao Yuan realized he was still ignorant; what he thought was complex actually seemed so simple in Panxin’s eyes.
However, everyone has to learn from experience. It didn’t matter that he didn’t know before; as long as he knew what to do from now on, that was part of the process of learning and growing.
