The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 378 - 380. The miserable Mr. Fu
Chapter 378: 380. The miserable Mr. Fu
Yu Xiaoxuan felt particularly conflicted. According to her original plan, she had wanted to wait another two years before having children. After all, she was only 23 years old, in the rising period of her career. If she had a child now, her time and energy would undoubtedly be divided. Moreover, she had only completed half of her current TV drama. If she were to exit midway, it would not bode well for her future.
"I don’t know, Qinglan, I’m really conflicted right now. I want to advance further in my career, but the baby is already on the way. I can’t bring myself to not want it. It’s the only person in this world who’s related to me by blood, closer to me than Han Yi. I can’t bring myself to heartlessly abandon it."
"Then have the baby, Xiao Xuan. You can slowly build your career later, but if you lose a child, even if you have another later, it won’t be this one," Shen Qinglan said with a gentle voice.
"As for the drama crew’s situation, since Han Yi is the one who caused this mess, let him deal with it," Shen Qinglan rather unkindly passed the buck to Han Yi.
"Ah, Qinglan, do you have some sort of magic powers? After talking to you I feel so much better—I’m not conflicted anymore," Yu Xiaoxuan said, sitting up with a trace of a smile finally appearing on her face.
Shen Qinglan exposed her, "In reality, you’ve already made up your mind; you just wanted someone to support your decision."
Yu Xiaoxuan giggled, "Don’t expose me like that. It’s my first pregnancy and there isn’t anyone around to consult with. I’m afraid."
Shen Qinglan laughed, "When do you plan to tell Han Yi about this?"
Yu Xiaoxuan huffed, "I won’t tell him yet. If it weren’t for that guy, would I be in such a dilemma right now?"
"Have you spoken to Linda about leaving the drama crew?"
Yu Xiaoxuan looked embarrassed, "No." She had found out she was pregnant the night before and was so conflicted that she just wanted to meet with Shen Qinglan for a consultation; she hadn’t remembered to inform Linda.
"You, you’re still so impulsive in doing things. Hurry and call Linda to explain the situation," Shen Qinglan said.
"Qinglan, I’m scared," Yu Xiaoxuan looked guiltily, knowing Linda must be really angry by now. If she were to call her, wouldn’t she just get scolded? "Qinglan, can you call for me, please?" Yu Xiaoxuan looked at Shen Qinglan with a pitiful expression.
Shen Qinglan glanced at her, took her smartphone, and turned it on. A barrage of messages popped up, and Yu Xiaoxuan, hearing the notification sounds, sheepishly lowered her head.
Before Shen Qinglan could make the call, Linda’s call came in. As soon as she answered, Linda’s angry voice could be heard, "Where are you right now? Yu Xiaoxuan, do you have any sense of responsibility as an artist at all? You just leave without a word..."
"Linda, it’s me, Shen Qinglan," Shen Qinglan interrupted Linda’s tirade, and on the other end, the voice suddenly fell silent. "Xiao Xuan is with me. I had an emergency yesterday, and Xiao Xuan knew and was worried, so she rushed back in the middle of the night without informing you, and we are deeply sorry for that. This is my fault."
She took all the blame onto herself, making Yu Xiaoxuan feel even more uncomfortable. It was clearly the result of her own capriciousness, and yet Shen Qinglan was taking on the responsibility. Yu Xiaoxuan felt uneasy inside.
"I still need Xiao Xuan to stay with me for a couple of days, yes, I am very sorry, you will need to communicate with the drama crew. And, you can tell the drama crew that I am willing to invest in this drama, just hoping for a production with a conscience."
After hanging up the phone, Yu Xiaoxuan looked at Shen Qinglan with an apologetic face, "Qinglan, have I caused you trouble? I should take care of the investment myself, in your name, and I will put up the money."
Shen Qinglan returned the smartphone to Yu Xiaoxuan and spoke indifferently, "I don’t have much but money, and it’s just a small investment; you don’t have to worry about it. But you can’t be so capricious next time, remember that, Xiao Xuan?"
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded, "Yes, I know. This is the first time, and I promise it will be the last."
"I had Linda ask the drama crew for two days off for you. Do you want to go home, or...?"
"I just want some time to myself first, then I’ll go back to the set and continue filming. As for Han Yi, let’s not talk about that now."
Shen Qinglan frowned, "Is it okay for you to keep filming?"
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded, "Yeah, there’s no problem. This TV series is a contemporary drama, no major stunts involved. We are already halfway through filming, and I can actually make it to the end I’m just worried about the next movie, which is an action film. If I decide to have the baby, I probably won’t be able to shoot it, and it’ll be tough explaining to Sister Linda, the director, and the lead investor."
"You can leave those things to Han Yi," Shen Qinglan said. "Since you plan to have the baby, you should tell Han Yi sooner, and it’s time to start preparing for the wedding."
Yu Xiaoxuan’s expression changed slightly, and she snorted, "He hasn’t even proposed to me. There’s no way I’m marrying him."
"What will you do when your belly gets bigger?"
"Then I’ll just have the baby and raise it myself. I have money, I can afford it," Yu Xiaoxuan patted her chest.
Shen Qinglan watched her quietly, speaking slowly, "It’s hard enough to have a baby, and you plan to raise the child by yourself. Then Han Yi gets to enjoy being Daddy without doing anything. Are you sure you want to let him off that easily?"
Yu Xiaoxuan thought for a moment, "Right, I definitely can’t let him off that easily. He should look after the baby when it’s born." Having figured it out, she immediately became cheerful, her eyes crinkling as she looked at Shen Qinglan’s belly, "How’s my godson been doing lately? Has he grown a lot?"
Shen Qinglan looked tenderly at her own belly, "Yes, he’s been very active lately, keeping me up at night. Sometimes he kicks me awake in the middle of the night." Her face softened when she spoke of the child in her womb, a far cry from her usual cool demeanor.
"That’s so nice, Qinglan. I never thought among the three of us, it would be you and me who would become mothers first. It would be best if I have a daughter so she can be your daughter-in-law." No sooner had she finished speaking than Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes lit up, "Ah, right, that’s what we’ll do. If I have a daughter, she’ll be your daughter-in-law."
Shen Qinglan: ... You’re so rashly deciding on your daughter’s future marriage; she’s going to cry.
Having made up her mind, Yu Xiaoxuan regained her spirits, sharing fun incidents that had happened on set with Shen Qinglan, who listened quietly, only occasionally chiming in, her eyes and brows radiating ease.
She thought there was a reason she liked Yu Xiaoxuan; she was a sunny person, faced life with positivity and optimism, and found joy in the little things. Anyone with Yu Xiaoxuan would feel relaxed.
"Qinglan, I’m going home tonight, and tomorrow I’ll go find Han Yi and tell him the news," Yu Xiaoxuan said, in high spirits.
Shen Qinglan smiled and nodded, "Right, have you not been for a check-up at the hospital yet?"
Yu Xiaoxuan was startled, "Oh, it seems I haven’t. I just bought a pregnancy test. I haven’t gone for an official check-up."
Shen Qinglan knew it would be like this and shook her head, "There’s still time this afternoon, let’s go for a check-up now. Once it’s confirmed, you can have peace of mind."
"Will it interfere with your plans?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked.
Shen Qinglan shook her head. Now she was just a leisurely person, spending her days at home with Fu Hengyi, painting, reading, playing chess, and occasionally attending prenatal yoga classes. She had plenty of time.
The two headed to the hospital. Yu Xiaoxuan put on her sunglasses and didn’t bother much with her appearance. As Shen Qinglan put it, if you’re open and aboveboard, people are less likely to suspect. Moreover, having Shen Qinglan by her side was a big help. Going to the hospital to get a pregnancy check-up with a good friend was perfectly normal.
Shen Qinglan had made an appointment with her own obstetrician for Yu Xiaoxuan. This doctor was also a friend of Doctor Zhong, very reliable and experienced.
Qinglan entered the hospital with Yu Xiaoxuan. After they arrived, Xiaoxuan went to see the doctor for a checkup, and Qinglan sat in a chair waiting.
As it turned out, Yu Xiaoxuan was indeed pregnant, just about a month along. Holding the test results in her hand, she was still in disbelief, although she had used a pregnancy test the night before. But this confirmation was real, and the feelings were entirely different from mere suspicion.
"Qinglan, I am really going to be a mother," Yu Xiaoxuan said dazedly.
Shen Qinglan cracked a slight smile. "Yes, are you happy?"
Yu Xiaoxuan beamed, "Happy, it is very different from how I felt last night when I first found out. I was scared and anxious then, but now, I only feel happiness and excitement. I really want to call Han Yi right this second and tell him the news."
Shen Qinglan could fully empathize with her feelings. When she first learned of her own pregnancy, she too wanted to share the news with Fu Hengyi right away. "Then call him and tell him."
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded and then shook her head, "No, I want to tell him in person. Qinglan, did you feel the same way when it was your turn?"
Shen Qinglan nodded with a smile, "Yes, then wait until tonight to tell him. Give him a surprise."
"Haha, that was what I thought too. But I don’t know if he will have to work late tonight. I will call his secretary later to ask, but we have to keep it a secret or the surprise will be ruined," Yu Xiaoxuan chattered, her face alight with excitement.
Shen Qinglan looked at her, her eyes filled with amusement.
Leaving the doctor’s office, Yu Xiaoxuan had put away the test results paper, and halfway through, she suddenly stopped, "Qinglan, I think I left my phone in the doctor’s office, wait for me a moment."
Shen Qinglan nodded, staying put as she waited for Yu Xiaoxuan but after a long while, Yu Xiaoxuan hadn’t returned. Unable to wait any longer, Qinglan turned back to look for her. Just as she rounded the corner, she saw Yu Xiaoxuan standing there, pale as a ghost, shell-shocked.
"Xiao Xuan, what’s wrong?" Shen Qinglan asked worriedly, sensing that something wasn’t quite right with Xiaoxuan.
Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes flickered before fixing on Shen Qinglan, "Qinglan, can you take me home? My legs are weak."
Shen Qinglan’s eyes flashed softly, "Okay, let’s go home." She reached out to support Xiaoxuan, guiding her to the car.
Shen Qinglan did not take Yu Xiaoxuan back to her own home, but instead to Qinglan’s. When Fu Hengyi saw Xiaoxuan’s condition, a trace of surprise crossed his eyes. He glanced at Shen Qinglan, who gently shook her head.
"Good day, Mr. Fu," Yu Xiaoxuan greeted without much energy.
Fu Hengyi grunted in acknowledgment, exchanging a look with Shen Qinglan but said nothing.
Shen Qinglan settled Yu Xiaoxuan into the guest room. Old Sir Fu wasn’t at home; he’d gone with Old Sir Shen to Lin City to visit Old Master Zhou, who had suddenly suffered a stroke and been hospitalized. As old friends, they felt it was only proper to pay him a visit.
Yu Xiaoxuan skipped dinner and sat silently on the bed upon entering the room. Shen Qinglan brought her some food, saying, "Eat first. Whatever has happened, you can’t joke about your health."
Yu Xiaoxuan shook her head, "Qinglan, I really can’t eat."
Shen Qinglan sat down beside her, "What happened at the hospital earlier? Weren’t you just going to fetch your phone?"
Yu Xiaoxuan’s tears suddenly fell, and Shen Qinglan’s eyes flickered slightly, "Did you see Han Yi?" Now, the only person who could cause such a big fluctuation in Yu Xiaoxuan’s emotions was Han Yi.
Hearing Han Yi’s name, Yu Xiaoxuan cried even harder. Shen Qinglan thought for a moment and a guess surfaced in her mind. She tentatively asked, "Did you see Han Yi with another woman at the obstetrics and gynecology department?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Yu Xiaoxuan started to sob loudly, "Qinglan, that woman was sporting a big belly, looking about four or five months along. Han Yi was supporting her, and they seemed very intimate."
Shen Qinglan’s expression changed slightly, "Are you sure of what you saw?"
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded firmly, "It was definitely Han Yi. I could make a mistake with anybody else, but never with him. I would recognize him even if he turned to ashes."
Shen Qinglan didn’t know what to say. After thinking for a bit, she asked, "Could that woman be his relative?"
Yu Xiaoxuan shook her head, "I don’t know. I’ve never seen that woman before. I didn’t even dare to confront Han Yi; I’m afraid he would tell me that the child is his."
Shen Qinglan’s heart sank. She looked at Yu Xiaoxuan, "Yu Xiaoxuan, I find you are quite foolish at times."
With tears in her eyes, Yu Xiaoxuan looked at her, "Qinglan, you scold me." Her tone full of grievance.
Shen Qinglan not only wanted to scold her but also wanted to crack open her head to see if she was raising fish in there, "Have you forgotten the lesson from last time?"
Yu Xiaoxuan naturally hadn’t forgotten; she and Han Yi had nearly broken up due to Xia Fei’s scheming, "Qinglan, are you saying that this might be someone else’s plot?"
Shen Qinglan gave her a look of exasperated affection, "Yu Xiaoxuan, have you returned your IQ?"
"Qinglan," Yu Xiaoxuan called out pitifully. Right now, her mind was filled with the scene she saw at the hospital. How could she remain calm enough to think?
Shen Qinglan let out a soft sigh, "Xiaoxuan, I once told you that to love someone with all your heart means to trust them completely. You lack a sense of security. Have you ever really trusted Han Yi?"
Yu Xiaoxuan fell silent. After a while, she spoke softly, "I trust him, but I feel inferior. Qinglan, to be honest, I’ve taken to heart what Xia Fei and his father said. Han Yi is so outstanding, no matter how hard I try, I always feel inadequate for him. Qinglan, to me, Han Yi is like a towering mountain to look up to."
Shen Qinglan was silent. She had never experienced such feelings and hadn’t realized Yu Xiaoxuan felt so inferior, "So, is your ambition to succeed in your career also to stand by his side more worthily?"
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded, "Qinglan, am I foolish?"
Shen Qinglan nodded bluntly, "Indeed, you are foolish. Xiaoxuan, you should be proud. Han Yi, such an outstanding person, has chosen you despite the myriad of choices. It proves you have qualities that attract him. In his eyes, you are priceless. What the others think is just their opinion, and you’ve been doing great."
In the past year, Yu Xiaoxuan had worked very hard. Although her resources had always been top-notch because of Han Yi, she had proved through her own efforts that she deserved these resources. Every movie and TV series she acted in, even every commercial, had received praise. Although her acting started off immature and not quite good, her progress was evident to the audience.
The outside world’s doubts about her had been decreasing, and the affirmations increasing. Now she still had great resources, but it was no longer because of Han Yi, but because of her own strength, which, in Shen Qinglan’s view, was enough.
Yu Xiaoxuan burst into laughter, her face still wet with tears, looking like an ungrown child, "Qinglan, I must have done many good deeds in my past life to have met such a good friend like you."
"Get over it and eat. Even if you’re not hungry, the child in your belly needs to eat." Shen Qinglan patted her shoulder, her heart still filled with a bit of a sigh. Since her parents’ accidental passing, Yu Xiaoxuan seemed to have not changed much, seemingly even more cheerful and stronger than before, but in fact, she had become more sensitive. She used to be carefree and thick-skinned, but now she was careful and insecure.
Thinking this way, Shen Qinglan felt that the child’s arrival was quite timely. With this child, at least Yu Xiaoxuan would feel like she still had family in this world, the security that a blood-related child could bring was irreplaceable by any other person.
Yu Xiaoxuan’s appetite wasn’t great; she felt full after just a bit and Shen Qinglan didn’t insist she eat more, merely reminded her to rest early before leaving.
Returning to the room, Fu Hengyi was already lying on the bed. Seeing her come in, he looked towards her, "Has she slept?"
Shen Qinglan nodded her head, "Did you call Han Yi?"
"Mm, I did, but Han Yi didn’t pick up. I told him to call me back when he returns," Fu Hengyi said, having understood Shen Qinglan’s intent with just a glance back in the living room.
Han Yi’s call came at ten o’clock at night; he had just managed to get out of a social engagement and hadn’t even showered when he got home before returning Fu Hengyi’s call.
"Mr. Fu, what did you need from this humble one?" Han Yi’s leg was resting on the coffee table, his posture relaxed as he lay on the sofa.
"What were you up to today?"
Han Yi’s peachy eyes lifted, "Yo, Mr. Fu, you’ve got the spare time to care about my life now?" Ever since Shen Qinglan got pregnant, Fu Hengyi had been all about his wife and child, barely remembering their brotherhood.
"I won’t beat around the bush with you—who did you go to the hospital with today?" Fu Hengyi was to the point, as Shen Qinglan had already recounted the day’s events.
"My cousin. Hey, wait a sec, how did you know I went to the hospital today?"
"I saw you while accompanying my wife to her prenatal checkup," Fu Hengyi said casually.
"You saw me and didn’t say hello?"
"What if she was your mistress? A visit like ours could have made things awkward for you," Fu Hengyi cracked a rare joke.
Han Yi sat up from the sofa, "My dear Young Master, that’s a joke you can’t afford to make. If my little jealous pot of a wife finds out, we’d have a vinegar ocean. She didn’t tell Xiao Xuan about this, right?"
Fu Hengyi glanced at Shen Qinglan who was reading a book, "No."
Han Yi breathed a sigh of relief. Yu Xiaoxuan was sensitive and he didn’t want her overthinking, "Good. Look, you need to keep tight-lipped about this. If Xiao Xuan gets jealous, I’ll spill the beans about those love letters you received from girls to your little sister-in-law."
As soon as the words fell, Shen Qinglan’s page-flipping paused as she looked towards Fu Hengyi, whose expression didn’t change, merely eyeing the speakerphone call with a hint of frost. Shen Qinglan glanced at Fu Hengyi with a seemingly amused look before returning to her book.
Fu Hengyi hung up the call outright and faced Shen Qinglan, "Wife, don’t listen to Han Yi’s nonsense."
Shen Qinglan continued turning pages in her book, her expression calm, "What nonsense did Han Yi spout?"
Fu Hengyi stared intently at her, "I haven’t received love letters from any girl."
"Oh, that matter? So, you’re saying Han Yi lied?" Shen Qinglan asked indifferently.
Fu Hengyi nodded earnestly, "Mm, just his usual bluster."
Shen Qinglan observed as Fu Hengyi seriously spouted nonsense, a glint of amusement in her eyes, yet her facial expression remained gentle, "I think what Han Yi said was true. With you being so exemplary and handsome, it’s normal for women to like you. It would be odd if no one did."
Her casual remark left Fu Hengyi momentarily unable to discern if she truly didn’t mind or was, in fact, jealous, "Wife, aren’t you jealous?"
Shen Qinglan placed the book on the nightstand and looked at him, "If I were jealous, what would you plan to do?"
Fu Hengyi pulled her into his embrace, "If my wife gets jealous, I naturally know how to coax her." Saying so, he leaned down to kiss Shen Qinglan’s lips.
Shen Qinglan wrapped her arms around his neck, beginning to respond to his kiss. With his wife being so cooperative, Fu Hengyi’s long neglected body reacted instantly.
Over these past few months, because Shen Qinglan was pregnant and he had injured his leg, they had both abstained for quite a while. The slightest provocation now stirred not just Fu Hengyi’s body but Shen Qinglan’s eyes flickered with a hazy look, too.
Fu Hengyi gave a certain area a squeeze, whispering, "It’s grown a lot."
A spark of light flashed in Shen Qinglan’s eyes as her hand slipped under the covers. Fu Hengyi let out a stifled groan, closing his eyes in pleasure and anticipating Shen Qinglan’s next move. But Shen Qinglan withdrew her hand, pushed him away, and said, "Your daughter says she’s tired and wants to go to sleep."
Fu Hengyi was momentarily confused, giving her a dumbfounded look, "Wife." His voice hoarse, laden with a distinct tone of desire.
Shen Qinglan looked at him innocently, "Your daughter’s tired. If you don’t believe me, ask her." With that, she even placed Fu Hengyi’s hand on her belly.
Fu Hengyi looked at her steadily, finally understanding her tease, and gently bit her face, "You, you’re just tormenting me."
Shen Qinglan smiled faintly, closing her eyes and drifting to sleep in Fu Hengyi’s arms, while he stayed awake until the early morning, embracing his delicate wife.
He occasionally stroked Shen Qinglan’s belly, thinking that once the little one was born, he’d have to make up for all the lost time. At the thought, Fu Hengyi felt even hotter.
The next morning, Fu Hengyi got up and left, mentioning he had something to attend to but didn’t specify where. Shen Qinglan knew his bodyguards would follow and didn’t inquire further; even in the closest of marital relationships, it was important to maintain some personal space.
As Han Yi finished a meeting, his assistant informed him that Fu Hengyi had arrived and was waiting in the office. Raising an eyebrow, he mused, "An unusual guest. What brings you over here today?"
Fu Hengyi looked at Han Yi, "Since you won’t come to see me, I had to come to see you."
His offhand remark startled Han Yi, "Young Master Fu, you’re acting out of character today. Those sound like words Mr. Fu would never say. Did something upset you?" He scrutinized Fu Hengyi’s face.
"Why do I feel like you’re the one looking sexually frustrated?"
Fu Hengyi’s face darkened slightly as he coldly looked at him, tossing a file folder in his direction, "Take a look at this."
Han Yi curiously picked it up and as he read, his expression of surprise grew more intense, "Did you prepare this plan?"
Fu Hengyi spoke indifferently, "If it wasn’t me, then was it you?"
Han Yi stared at him, noticing how irritable he was so early in the morning. Who could have provoked him? It couldn’t be Shen Qinglan; as a ’wife-slave,’ even if she did annoy him, he wouldn’t have the heart to be angry. So was it sexual frustration?
Han Yi really hit the nail on the head. Last night, after Shen Qinglan teased Fu Hengyi, she immediately turned over and went to sleep, leaving poor Fu Hengyi unable to close his eyes the entire night. It might have been okay before when their bodies were both not in the best condition and abstinence didn’t seem too unbearable. But now it was different, the flame had been ignited but not extinguished, and his beloved lay sweetly sleeping in his arms. Fu Hengyi couldn’t bear to trouble Shen Qinglan, so his only choice was to make life difficult for the instigator, Han Yi.
If Han Yi knew that because of his jest last night, he’d be looking forward to several months of non-stop overtime, he’d probably want to slap himself to death.
"What do you think of this project?" Fu Hengyi asked.
Han Yi smiled broadly, "Not bad. If it succeeds, the benefits will be considerable. What I’m curious about is, you’ve never been interested in these matters before, so how did you come up with such a project proposal?"
"Making some diaper money," Fu Hengyi tossed out five words.
Han Yi: ...With your wife’s wealth, do you even need to earn diaper money?
If Mr. Fu knew Han Yi’s thoughts, he would definitely tell him, "My wife’s money is hers, it’s only right for a man to earn money for the family. If I were to rely on my wife, wouldn’t that make me a kept man?"
"Alright, alright. Diaper money it is. I’m quite interested in this project. How much of a cut do you want?" Han Yi was straightforward; it made no sense to be polite with his own brother.
"Thirty percent," Fu Hengyi said.
Han Yi grimaced, "Young Master, can’t you be merciful? Whoever ends up executing this plan, it’s going to be me, right? You’ll just be the boss who doesn’t bother with the details. I’ll be the one spending the effort, and I have so many people to feed. You should at least give me a higher price."
"Thirty-five," Fu Hengyi spat out a few words.
Han Yi’s face tensed up, "Fine, fine, thirty it is. Who made you my brother? However, I’m not planning to do this project under Han Group’s name. I assume you hold the same opinion?"
Fu Hengyi nodded, "Hmm, my idea is to acquire a small company and carry out the project in their name. It’s best if the company is not associated with you, but you could hang it under Yu Xiaoxuan’s name."
"Hang it under Xiao Xuan’s name?" Han Yi was puzzled.
"Hmm, Yu Xiaoxuan is currently just a pure artist. If she also has a company that is about to develop quickly and will potentially be comparable to a listed company, it would be a great improvement to her status. If her status is elevated, your father might be less dissatisfied with her. I know you don’t care about your father’s opinion, but outsiders don’t see it that way."
The casual look on Han Yi’s face gradually disappeared as he seriously pondered the feasibility of Fu Hengyi’s plan. After thinking for a while, he looked at Fu Hengyi, "This suggestion was made by the little sister-in-law, wasn’t it?"
Given Fu Hengyi’s indifferent nature, if Shen Qinglan hadn’t said something, he would not have bothered with Yu Xiaoxuan’s affair.
Fu Hengyi didn’t deny it. Indeed, Shen Qinglan played a part in this, but Han Yi also mattered. Elevating Yu Xiaoxuan’s status also meant giving her more security and stabilizing her relationship with Han Yi. This way, Shen Qinglan wouldn’t have to worry about Yu Xiaoxuan, and his brother could find happiness sooner.
To put it bluntly, Mr. Fu was jealous because Shen Qinglan was paying attention to Yu Xiaoxuan. And Yu Xiaoxuan’s insecurity was also due to Han Yi’s negligence. In the end, Han Yi was still the one to blame.
If Han Yi knew Fu Hengyi’s true thoughts, he would surely not know whether to laugh or cry. No matter what, he seemed to be the perfect scapegoat.
"Okay, leave this to me to manage. I need to plan it out well. If your plan really succeeds, the profits will be substantial. Suddenly, I feel it’s such a shame you joined the military. If those old foxes in the business world knew about this plan, they’d swarm all over it. You’re a business genius who was held back by the military," Han Yi teased him.
There was no special expression on Fu Hengyi’s face. During this period of time, being idle at home, aside from researching things related to pregnancy, he had also read some economics books. When he went abroad for further studies earlier in his life, he majored in economics. It was only after returning to the country that he went straight into the military, thus putting his education on the back burner.
Despite having spent so many years in the military, his foundational skills were there, and his sensitivity to the industry remained. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have established Shengxuan and Charming Color with Han Yi.
There was truth in what Han Yi said: if Fu Hengyi hadn’t joined the military back then, he would definitely have entered the business world.
"How have you and Yu Xiaoxuan been lately?" After finishing the official business, Fu Hengyi brought up something else.
Han Yi looked up from the business plan, surprised, and glanced at Fu Hengyi. "What’s gotten into you these past few days, caring so much about me and Yu Xiaoxuan?" Yesterday he came looking for him because of Yu Xiaoxuan, and now he’s asking about her again. If someone else, more inclined to gossip, had asked, Han Yi wouldn’t be curious, but coming from Fu Hengyi, it just seemed odd.
"Just asking." Fu Hengyi replied.
Han Yi sized him up. "You’re not the gossipy type. Did something happen?"
"What do you hope happened?" Fu Hengyi asked him in return.
Han Yi was speechless. What did he mean, hoping for something to happen?
"If there’s nothing wrong, then spend more time accompanying your girl. Don’t get full and start poking your nose into other people’s business."
"Hey, why does what you’re saying sound so uncomfortable to me? When did I ever poke my nose into other people’s business..." Han Yi paused, finally realizing what Fu Hengyi was talking about. "You’re referring to what happened yesterday at the hospital, right? That really wasn’t my fault. My cousin and her husband came to Beijing for pregnancy check-ups. It seemed there was some issue with the fetus spotted in their own city, so they came here for reassurance. Since she’s my only cousin, I had to get involved when she came. I accompanied them to the hospital, but then my cousin’s husband got called away by his boss at the last minute. I had no choice but to step in. I remember you’ve met my cousin before; it makes no sense that you wouldn’t recognize her."
"It has been too long; I’ve forgotten." Fu Hengyi said.
Han Yi scoffed. "I don’t think you’ve forgotten; you simply never remembered. I’m starting to doubt if you remember anyone besides Shen Qinglan." He stared at Fu Hengyi’s face. "It’s a good thing that I stopped my cousin when she talked about liking you back then. Otherwise, she surely would have been heartbroken over the Pacific Ocean, nowhere near the happiness she has now."
"It’s alright for you to say this now, but if you were to say it in front of Qinglan..." Fu Hengyi’s tone was slightly colder.
Han Yi laughed. "You think I’m an idiot? Of course, I wouldn’t say this in front of the little sister-in-law. However, my cousin and her husband are treating us to dinner tonight. Are you coming? If you do, you could bring the little sister-in-law along."
He chuckled. "If my cousin saw you as you are now, she’d surely be disillusioned."
Fu Hengyi looked at him coldly. "You seem to have plenty of free time, don’t you?"
Han Yi quickly shook his head. "Free? I’m far from it. You just handed me this huge project today; it’s enough to keep me busy for a year, and you still think I’m not busy?"
"When you have time, give Yu Xiaoxuan a call, show her some concern." Having said that, Fu Hengyi made a phone call to the guard waiting outside, asking him to come in and push him out.
After Fu Hengyi left, Han Yi touched his chin, pondering. It wasn’t the first time Fu Hengyi had mentioned Yu Xiaoxuan to him—could there be some hidden meaning in it?
He thought for a moment, then dialed Yu Xiaoxuan’s number, but the line was dead. Glancing at the time, he didn’t think much of it, figuring that Yu Xiaoxuan was probably still sleeping after a night of filming.
As he looked over the business plan in his hands, his eyes gleamed with excitement. Ever since he started managing the Han Group, aside from the first two years when he was still passionate, he felt increasingly bored in recent years; there was no challenge at all. However, Fu Hengyi’s plan had reignited the fire in him.
