Chapter 377: 379. Du Nan’s Abnormality (Second Update)
After Du Nan went upstairs, Du Honghai, seeing that his wife was still fuming, couldn’t help but ask, "Du Nan has left. Can you now tell me who you met?"
Mrs. Du drank half a glass of water before she spoke. "Today, I went out with my friends, and since we had nothing else to do, we went to the beach in the afternoon. There, I saw Wen Xiyao, taking wedding photos with that Shen man."
The radiant smile on Wen Xiyao’s face made Mrs. Du’s heart ache. She had always considered Wen Xiyao as her future daughter-in-law, especially since her own son was so fond of her. Yet, she ended up getting together with someone else, and her own son, not only did he lose himself, but his company almost went bankrupt. It was all because of Wen Xiyao; Mrs. Du’s displeasure towards Wen Xiyao was substantial.
Listening to this, Du Honghai did not show any other reaction, "They are already engaged, getting married is just a matter of time. What’s there to be angry about?"
"How can I not be angry? If it were not for her, would our family be in this situation? And look at her, happily taking wedding photos with someone else. Moreover, I remember that man is from Beijing, isn’t he? She’s not taking photos in Beijing but runs to Hai City to do what, deliberately provoking us, right?" Mrs. Du harbored a strong resentment.
If Wen Xiyao knew about her thoughts, she would surely scoff at them. She wasn’t idle enough to travel all the way from Beijing just to provoke her.
Du Honghai sighed, "You really are narrow-minded. Wen Xiyao never liked Du Nan; it was Du Nan who clung to her and did such things to her. The Wen family even agreeing to help us was already a huge favor; you should be grateful. We should still offer a gift at the Wen family daughter’s wedding."
"Attend her wedding?" Mrs. Du glared, "You go if you want, but I will definitely not. If the Wen family hadn’t intentionally suppressed us, would our company have faced such a crisis? Their help was obligatory." She spoke as if justified, completely forgetting that it was Du Nan who first made a mistake, which led the Wen family to act.
Du Honghai frowned, looking disapprovingly at his wife, "You know the truth about this matter. Just because Du Nan is your son, you can’t disregard the facts. The Wen family has already been more than generous."
Seeing Du Honghai getting serious, Mrs. Du backed down, "I’m just venting to you at home. But tell me, seeing our son work so hard day in and day out, working then coming home just to sleep, looking completely hollowed out, doesn’t it break your heart?"
Du Honghai did feel heartache, as he was his only son. How could he not be pained? But he couldn’t blame the Wen family for this. Hearing his wife say these things made Du Honghai quite uncomfortable. Such words were problematic enough for him to hear, but if Du Nan heard them and got influenced, leading to further actions, it would be truly disastrous.
"Enough, let’s not talk about this anymore. You’re an educated person; you should know how to measure your words when you speak and act."
Mrs. Du agreed.
What the couple didn’t see was that around the corner of the stairs, Du Nan, having heard their conversation, wore an exceptionally ugly expression.
The next morning, Du Nan left the house early. He did not go to his office but drove to the Wen family estate. He stood under the shade of the trees, watching from afar as Wen Xiyao and Shen Junyu came out of the Wen house, chatting and laughing. He followed them to Hai City Park, where Wen Xiyao and Shen Junyu had another set of photos to take today.
Du Nan hid in a corner, quietly watching Wen Xiyao in her pristine bridal gown, nestled in Shen Junyu’s arms, smiling blissfully. This happy smile was something he had yearned for many years, even dreaming about Wen Xiyao in a bridal gown walking into a matrimonial life with him since the first time he fantasized about her. Now he had finally seen her in a wedding dress, even more beautiful than he had imagined, but the person standing beside her was not him.
"Wen Xiyao, you belong to me, you definitely belong to me. I will never simply watch you marry someone else," Du Nan murmured softly, casting a deep glance at Wen Xiyao before turning and walking away.
"What’s wrong, you can’t even concentrate on taking photos?" Shen Junyu noticed Wen Xiyao’s distracted air and asked softly.
Wen Xiyao returned to her senses, frowning. "I just felt someone watching us, but when I looked, there was no one."
Shen Junyu looked in the direction Wen Xiyao had just been staring at. "There’s no one, maybe you saw incorrectly?"
"That must be it, probably just a passerby," Wen Xiyao replied.
After they finished taking wedding photos, the couple flew back directly to Beijing. Because there was still half a month left before their honeymoon, Wen Xiyao and Shen Junyu needed to get their work matters in order. Shen Junyu was somewhat okay as he was the boss himself and had many capable people in his company; even if he was away for half a month, there wouldn’t be much issue. But it was different for Wen Xiyao, who was the General Manager of Xinhe International. She was highly paid and had to justify the salary she was receiving.
"You’ve got it good, deciding your work hours, completely at ease," Wen Xiyao leaned on Shen Junyu, expressing her thoughts.
Shen Junyu chuckled, "I have an even better job available, offering millions annually, with more freedom than my current work hours. Interested?"
Wen Xiyao looked at him curiously, "What kind of job offers such great conditions?"
"A CEO’s wife at Junlan Group. You can manage all income of the CEO of Junlan Group, wake up any time you desire every day, and even if you want to sleep all day, that’s possible."
Wen Xiyao rolled her eyes, "You’re just teasing me."
"I’m serious. If you ever get tired, you can resign anytime, and your husband will take care of you," Shen Junyu gestured grandly.
Wen Xiyao chuckled and nodded, "Alright, if one day I exhaust myself, I’ll resign and let you take care of me, or maybe I’ll start a vineyard and make my own red wine, how about that?"
Shen Junyu glanced sideways, "Why the sudden interest in doing that?"
"That day I was watching TV and saw a couple in the drama who quit their jobs, went home to run a vineyard, and they seemed to lead a very comfortable life."
"Feeling tempted?"
"Yes, I think that kind of stable life is good too. After so many years in the workforce and encountering so much deception, I always feel a bit exhausted," Wen Xiyao said. That feeling had started when an incident happened at the construction site, and she faced those shareholders.
Although after her identity as the daughter of the Wen Family was revealed, the old fogies at the company hadn’t troubled her any further, her heart still felt weary.
"If you are really tired, then take a rest. Do something you want to do, or something you enjoy doing. Like Lanlan, that would be nice too," Shen Junyu said softly.
"Okay, if I really can’t hold on any longer, I’ll resign and come home, and you’ll have to take care of me. Then you better not despise me."
Shen Junyu tenderly kissed her forehead, "How could I possibly despise you? I love you more than I can handle."
Wen Xiyao smiled tenderly.
As the wedding date for Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao was drawing near, Shen Qinglan’s belly was growing larger. Six and a half months later, Shen Qinglan’s belly was expanding daily like a balloon, which alarmed Mr. Fu greatly.
Taking Shen Qinglan to the hospital for a check-up, the doctor said it was a normal reaction. The baby had developed slowly in the earlier stages but had started growing normally now, which was a good sign.
Leaving the hospital, Aunt Zhao pushed Fu Hengyi’s wheelchair and told Chu Yunrong with a smile, "Hengyi is just too nervous. I remember when Hengyi’s mother was pregnant, her belly suddenly grew much larger later on just like Qinglan’s."
Chu Yunrong also smiled, "As long as the baby isn’t too big, that’s fine. Too big and it might lead to a difficult delivery, and Qinglan would suffer." However, this wasn’t a concern now, as the doctor had just confirmed that the baby was within the normal weight range.
Shen Qinglan listened quietly to their conversation and occasionally exchanged glances with Fu Hengyi, who felt relieved knowing there was nothing wrong with the baby in Shen Qinglan’s belly.
Back home, Shen Qinglan had just changed her clothes when she received a call from Yu Xiaoxuan, inviting her for tea the next day.
The next day, after informing Fu Hengyi, Shen Qinglan had the family driver take her to the agreed-upon location.
Seeing Yu Xiaoxuan, Shen Qinglan slightly raised an eyebrow, "What’s up? You look down."
Yu Xiaoxuan was lying on the table, clearly a picture of dejection. Hearing Shen Qinglan’s words, she lifted her eyelids slightly, "Qinglan, I think I’m pregnant."
The juice Shen Qinglan had just sipped sprayed across Yu Xiaoxuan’s face. Yu Xiaoxuan, expressionless, pulled out a tissue to wipe the juice off her face.
"What did you just say you were?" Shen Qinglan asked.
"I said I think I’m pregnant," Yu Xiaoxuan repeated.
Oh, so she really was pregnant. She hadn’t misheard, "Being pregnant is good news, why the long face?" Her gaze sharpened, "Could it be that the child isn’t Han Yi’s?"
Yu Xiaoxuan rolled her eyes, "What nonsense are you thinking? It’s that jerk Han Yi’s."
"Weren’t you filming in Jinning City?"
"Yeah, Han Yi visited me last time, and then this happened," Yu Xiaoxuan lamented. The one time she wasn’t careful, and she hit the jackpot—she didn’t even have this kind of luck when buying lottery tickets.
"Does Han Yi know?"
Yu Xiaoxuan shook her head, "I haven’t told him yet. I only found out myself yesterday." Recalling how she wrapped herself from head to toe and ran to the pharmacy in the middle of the night to buy a pregnancy test, the shop assistant almost thought she was crazy when she thought about this experience, Yu Xiaoxuan felt kind of bitter.
"So what do you plan to do?" Shen Qinglan asked.
Yu Xiaoxuan continued shaking her head, "I don’t know. I didn’t sleep all night yesterday. I flew back first thing this morning, almost drove Sister Linda mad, but I didn’t say where I was going. I didn’t even tell Han Yi I was back. My mind is a mess, and I can’t decide what to do?"
"Do you want this baby?"
