The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 379 - 381. How much do you know about her past?
Chapter 379: 381. How much do you know about her past?
Yu Xiaoxuan emerged from her room to find that Shen Qinglan had already prepared breakfast for her, "Come and eat first."
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded and took a seat at the dining table.
"Have a look what you’d like to eat," Shen Qinglan suggested.
"Where’s Mr. Fu?" Yu Xiaoxuan didn’t see Fu Hengyi and asked.
"He left early in the morning, said there was something he needed to do," Shen Qinglan mentioned casually.
Yu Xiaoxuan picked up a bowl of porridge, eating somewhat absentmindedly. Shen Qinglan placed an egg in front of her, "Eat more, you need the nutrition right now."
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded, hesitated for a moment, and then spoke softly, "Qinglan, who do you think the woman we saw yesterday really is?"
"If you want to know so much, why don’t you just call Han Yi yourself?"
"I’m afraid to ask. If I do, he’ll think I’m stalking him," Yu Xiaoxuan said.
Shen Qinglan looked at her speechlessly. Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes darted away, "Okay, I admit I chickened out. I just thought of it in the moment yesterday. If you were faced with that situation, what would you have done, Qinglan?"
Yu Xiaoxuan was very curious about this.
Shen Qinglan calmly ate her breakfast and replied, "I’d ask directly." She trusted Fu Hengyi implicitly, and she believed that he wouldn’t do anything to betray her. Since that was the case, there was nothing that needed to be hidden.
Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes dimmed slightly, "At the end of the day, it’s because I don’t trust Han Yi enough, right?"
Shen Qinglan sighed, "You already know your problem, so you don’t need me to point it out."
"Qinglan, what’s gotten into me? Why am I feeling so insecure?"
"Xiaoxuan, you care too much about Han Yi. In fact, in this relationship, you’ve placed yourself below him. You’ve always looked up to him. Such feelings are fine for a short period, but in the long run, problems are bound to arise. What you need to do now is not to blame yourself but to learn how to see yourself as equal to Han Yi."
Yu Xiaoxuan silently continued to drink her porridge; knowing that she understood, Shen Qinglan did not speak further and just focused on her breakfast.
After finishing the meal, Yu Xiaoxuan left to find Han Yi.
Soon after Yu Xiaoxuan had left, Fu Hengyi returned with a bouquet of flowers. Shen Qinglan raised an eyebrow, "Did you leave early just to buy me flowers?"
Fu Hengyi smiled, "And also the cake you love."
Shen Qinglan then noticed that Fu Hengyi was also holding a small cake, the same kind that Shen Junyu had once waited in line to buy her.
"How long did you wait in line?" Shen Qinglan asked.
Fu Hengyi casually replied, "Not long at all, I was lucky today. When I got there, there weren’t many people, and it only took about ten minutes to get it."
The guard who was standing by couldn’t help but feel tearful upon hearing this; he had accompanied Fu Hengyi and waited in the cold wind for an hour and a half to get this small piece of cake. Initially, he wanted to buy several, but this particular cake was limited in quantity, and by the time they arrived, only the last one was left, with a new batch not due until later in the afternoon.
Shen Qinglan naturally didn’t believe that he only waited for about ten minutes, but she didn’t call him out on it. If he didn’t want her to worry, then it was best to pretend she didn’t know.
In front of the security personnel, Shen Qinglan bent over and kissed Fu Hengyi on the face, whispering softly, "Thank you, I really like it."
Although Fu Hengyi’s face was expressionless, his eyes were full of a warm smile.
The security guard pretended to see nothing, "Mr. Officer, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head out first." His single heart couldn’t stand being tortured like this.
Fu Hengyi nodded, and the security guard quickly took the chance to escape, silently thinking that maybe it was time to find a girlfriend.
Shen Qinglan found a vase to put the flowers in.

Yu Xiaoxuan took a cab directly to Han Yi’s company. She had intended to call Han Yi first, but her phone had run out of battery and turned off, so she had no choice but to give up. The receptionist recognized Yu Xiaoxuan and knew she was Han Yi’s girlfriend, so naturally, they didn’t dare to stop her.
Yu Xiaoxuan, looking at her reflection in the elevator, felt her palms starting to sweat.
"Miss Yu, what brings you here?" The assistant was surprised to see Yu Xiaoxuan; wasn’t she supposed to be filming out of town?
Yu Xiaoxuan smiled, "I came back for a bit of business and thought I’d drop by to see Han Yi. Is he here?"
The assistant nodded, "Mr. Han is here, but he’s currently in a meeting in the conference room. You can wait for him in his office; the meeting should be ending soon."
"Okay, I’ll go in and wait for him." Yu Xiaoxuan said, pushing open the office door, only to see a woman sitting on the sofa—it was the woman she had seen in the hospital yesterday. Her blood instantly froze, and her gaze shifted ever so slightly.
She stood at the door of the office, staring straight at the woman. Her expression was calm, if one ignored her eyes. The woman had also noticed Yu Xiaoxuan and recognized her.
The assistant followed her in and, upon seeing this scene, smiled and introduced the two, "Miss Yu, this is Mr. Han’s cousin, Miss Mo Zhishan. Miss Mo, this is Mr. Han’s girlfriend, Yu Xiaoxuan."
Yu Xiaoxuan’s head, filled with cold sweat, suddenly cleared up, and she turned to look at the assistant, "Cousin?"
The assistant nodded, "Yes, Miss Mo is the daughter of Mr. Han’s uncle."
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes, especially when she thought about how she had been wildly speculating because of his cousin for the entire night, and she couldn’t help but inwardly scorn herself.
Mo Zhishan stood up, looking at Yu Xiaoxuan kindly, "I’ve finally met you in person. My cousin has mentioned you so many times, and I’ve always wanted to meet you. But this stingy guy always refused, as if he’s afraid I would eat you up, treating me like some kind of flood or savage beast."
She was joking, but it immediately relaxed the atmosphere, probably noticing Yu Xiaoxuan’s embarrassment, she laughed, "Were you startled when you saw me, thinking if another seductive cheap woman was trying to seduce my cousin?"
Her candid words actually made Yu Xiaoxuan feel even more embarrassed, and her face turned a slight red.
Mo Zhishan laughed heartily, "Haha, actually, you’re right to think that. If you didn’t think so, I would wonder if you don’t really love my cousin. Besides, you don’t know, in the past, my cousin has really used me as a human shield, deceiving those naive girls until they’ve shed buckets of tears."
She approached proactively, pulling Yu Xiaoxuan to sit down on the sofa, "I’m a chatterbox who loves to talk. If I say anything wrong, don’t mind me, okay?"
Yu Xiaoxuan quickly shook her head, "Not at all, I’m a chatterbox too."
Mo Zhishan had noticed Yu Xiaoxuan’s nervousness and probably figured that she had really misunderstood her relationship with Han Yi, and she couldn’t help but find it amusing.
Luckily, Han Yi came back very quickly, and he was also surprised to see Yu Xiaoxuan, "Weren’t you filming? When did you get back?"
"I came back yesterday to take care of some business," Yu Xiaoxuan said.
Han Yi didn’t ask further in the presence of the others and instead turned to Mo Zhishan, "So, you’ve already met?"
Mo Zhishan nodded with a smile, "Yes, we’ve met. I even had a long chat with your precious girlfriend. It’s no wonder you kept her hidden so well; I wasn’t even allowed to meet her once. Turns out your girlfriend is such an adorable person."
Han Yi beamed with a smile, "Of course, Xiao Xuan is my treasure. How could I let you see her so easily? But now that you have, is your curiosity satisfied?"
Mo Zhishan, also grinning, shook her head, "Not satisfied. I’m especially curious now, what tricks did you use to deceive such an innocent girl into your hands?" According to age, Mo Zhishan was several years older than Yu Xiaoxuan.
Han Yi glared, "What do you mean by deceive? I pursued her sincerely. Mo Zhishan, I’m warning you, if you scare my girlfriend away, I’ll complain to your husband that you’ve started chasing after your so-called male god again."
This time, it was Mo Zhishan who got anxious, "Han Yi, why are you like this? I am your cousin after all."
"Cousin isn’t as important as a girlfriend."
"Hmph, you prefer romance over friendship. I’m going to tell Daddy you bullied me."
Han Yi glanced sideways, "Go ahead."
Yu Xiaoxuan quietly watched the two bicker. It was clear, despite their teasing, they were very close. Han Yi wrapped an arm around Yu Xiaoxuan’s shoulder, "Alright, I won’t bicker with you anymore. It’s about time. Call Xu Yifan and see how he’s getting on with his tasks. If he’s done, let’s go out to eat." He looked down at Yu Xiaoxuan, "You don’t have anything on today, do you?"
Yu Xiaoxuan shook her head, "No." Shen Qinglan had helped her get two days off with Linda yesterday.
Mo Zhishan called her husband, and after finding out that he had finished his business and was on his way back, she looked at Han Yi, who said, "Tell him to meet us directly at the place where we’re eating." He gave an address.
At the dinner table, Yu Xiaoxuan spoke much less than usual. Han Yi assumed she was a little inhibited by meeting his family. During a break in the meal, he whispered to Yu Xiaoxuan, "My uncle’s family isn’t like mine, relax."
Yu Xiaoxuan couldn’t very well tell Han Yi that she felt self-reproach because of her misunderstanding, so she just smiled and said, "I can tell. I’m just a little nervous, that’s all."
Han Yi held Yu Xiaoxuan’s hand under the table and gave it a gentle shake.
After the meal, Han Yi drove Mo Zhishan and Xu Yifan to the airport. They were returning today, and Yu Xiaoxuan went with them to see them off.
On the way back, Yu Xiaoxuan remained silent. Eventually, Han Yi sensed something was off and asked softly, "Xiao Xuan, are you troubled by something?"
Upon hearing this, Yu Xiaoxuan shook her head, "No."
"Do you have something you want to tell me?" Han Yi tried a different approach.
Yu Xiaoxuan hesitated for a moment and looked at Han Yi’s profile, "Han Yi, if I did something wrong, would you forgive me?"
"That depends on what it is. Tell me first, what did you do?" Han Yi said nonchalantly.
"I’ll tell you only if you promise not to get angry," she said.
Han Yi looked at her askance, "It seems you’ve done something to let me down, have you?" He spoke in a jesting tone.
"I saw you and Zhishan at the hospital yesterday," Yu Xiaoxuan said with her eyes closed.
Han Yi gave a sound of acknowledgment, "You saw and you saw, why didn’t you come up and greet me?" As he said that, he suddenly realized something and looked at her, "You didn’t misunderstand my relationship with Zhishan, did you?"
Yu Xiaoxuan’s face was full of embarrassment; she bowed her head and said nothing. She had not only misunderstood but had also been upset about it all night.
Seeing her like this, how could Han Yi not understand? He checked the road conditions and pulled over to a spot on the side.
"Yu Xiaoxuan, did you spend last night fretting over things without sleep again?" Han Yi asked. He had noticed the dark circles under her eyes when he saw her today and had thought she was just tired from work.
Yu Xiaoxuan kept her head down and dared not look at him.
Han Yi quietly stared at the top of her head, "Yu Xiaoxuan, do you really not trust me?"
Yu Xiaoxuan twisted her hands together, a small gesture she made when she was nervous.
"Yu Xiaoxuan, look at me." Han Yi’s tone became serious. Instantly, Yu Xiaoxuan lifted her head and looked at Han Yi, her eyes rimmed red.
Han Yi’s heart instantly softened. He relaxed his expression, reached out, and tousled her hair, "What a fool. Why can’t you just ask me directly about anything that bothers you, instead of foolishly coming up with all these crazy ideas on your own? Next time something like this happens, remember to come and confront me."
Tears started falling from Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes, dripping onto the back of Han Yi’s hand, "Han Yi, I’m sorry."
Han Yi sighed softly and pulled Yu Xiaoxuan into his arms, "It’s just a misunderstanding. We can clear it up, and I’m not even mad. Why are you the one crying?"
"I just feel like I’m becoming less and less worthy of you. I doubt you at the slightest thing. I don’t even know what’s wrong with me; I can’t control these wild thoughts. Han Yi, I’m sorry."
Han Yi felt a twinge of pain in his heart. The trauma of Yu Xiaoxuan’s parents’ passing was showing through at times like this. The girl who used to snarl and snap at him now held a constant undertone of uncertainty and trepidation with him. He was trying hard to lessen this feeling in her heart, but the results were always less than obvious.
"Xiaoxuan, you never have to say sorry to me, and don’t feel like you’re not good enough for me. You are wonderful, and in my eyes, you are the best," Han Yi comforted her, his voice soft.
Yu Xiaoxuan cried harder, "Han Yi, yell at me, please. If you scold me, I’ll feel better."
Han Yi laughed, "Who actively seeks out a scolding? Besides, I couldn’t bear that. But let me tell you, this is the last time. If you misunderstand me over something like this again and torment yourself with all these wild thoughts, I will genuinely get angry. And the consequences of that will be severe."
Yu Xiaoxuan nodded vigorously, "Han Yi, I’ll try to be more confident and not overthink things."
Hearing this, Han Yi couldn’t help but laugh helplessly, "If anyone else heard that, they’d cry. Have you forgotten you just won Best Actress and Best Newcomer? Those awards alone prove your excellence."
"That’s different. Those things aren’t enough to prove I’m a woman worthy of you. I need to keep working hard," Yu Xiaoxuan said in a subdued voice.
Han Yi stroked her hair, "Xiaoxuan, you don’t need to force yourself like this. I don’t need a power-wife; you are perfect just as you are."
"Are you saying I’m too stupid?" she asked.
"Is it bad to be a little stupid? There’s an old saying that ’a fool’s fortune comes to the foolish,’ and you should be happy to be a bit foolish; it means I will love you more," Han Yi said with a smile. If he had wanted a smart and capable wife, he would have found one long ago, but that kind of woman wasn’t his cup of tea at all.
However... Han Yi suddenly frowned, remembering something he had long neglected, "Why were you at the hospital?" It was a maternity hospital; what was Yu Xiaoxuan doing there for no reason?
Yu Xiaoxuan, who had been bowing her head, pulled away from Han Yi’s embrace when she heard this, looked into his eyes, and said word by word, "Han Yi, I’m pregnant."
Han Yi was stunned, as if he hadn’t quite grasped what Yu Xiaoxuan had said. He frowned and looked at her, "What did you just say?"
Yu Xiaoxuan looked at him and suddenly felt a pang in her heart. Could it be that Han Yi didn’t like children? Did he really not want this baby?
She watched him, her expression anxious, "Han Yi, I said I’m pregnant." Yu Xiaoxuan tugged at his sleeve, "Han Yi, do you not like children? Can we keep her? I want to give birth to her."
Han Yi’s brows gradually relaxed. Yes, he hadn’t misheard; he was indeed going to be a daddy. Haha, he was going to be a daddy. Han Yi suddenly burst out laughing. If it wasn’t for being in the car, he really wanted to pick up Yu Xiaoxuan and spin her around.
He hugged Yu Xiaoxuan and planted several kisses on her face, "Baby, you really are my greatest treasure, this is fantastic."
This time it was Yu Xiaoxuan’s turn to be stunned. She blankly watched Han Yi, unable to keep up with his sudden change of character.
Han Yi was very excited. He let go of Yu Xiaoxuan and immediately called Fu Hengyi, "Hengyi, I’m telling you, I’m about to become a daddy, haha."
Fu Hengyi was busy mixing colors for Shen Qinglan. Hearing this, he responded indifferently, "My daughter will be born in two months."
Han Yi snorted coldly. You think you’re so great because you’re ahead? Well, mine is coming soon too. He abruptly ended the call and then dialed Shen Junyu, "Jun Yu, I’m about to be a daddy, haha!"
Shen Junyu chuckled, "And I’m about to be a groom soon. You haven’t even had your wedding."
Han Yi felt depressed. These plastic brothers.
After hanging up, Han Yi hummed lightly, "They’re just jealous of me, absolutely jealous. It’s just a wedding, something that can be done in minutes. I’ll have someone start preparing right now, and I guarantee it’ll happen even before Shen Junyu’s wedding."
As Han Yi spoke, he was about to call his assistant when Yu Xiaoxuan saw this and hurriedly held his hand, "Han Yi, calm down."
When Han Yi saw her, he grinned foolishly. Yu Xiaoxuan covered her eyes. Who was this fool grinning like an idiot? Could she pretend not to know him? Yet her heart was sweet. It was great. Han Yi, like her, welcomed the arrival of this little angel.
"Xiao Xuan, let’s go home now. Whatever you want to eat or do, just tell me. No, I need to hire a nanny and a nutritionist right now to take care of you," Han Yi prattled on.
Yu Xiaoxuan felt both sweet and helpless as she followed Han Yi home. When Yu Xiaoxuan went to rest, having not slept well last night, Han Yi sat by the bedside after she fell asleep, quietly watching her. His eyes occasionally swept over her abdomen, filled with tenderness that seemed to overflow.
He bent down and gently kissed Yu Xiaoxuan’s face, whispering softly, "Yu Xiaoxuan, thank you." Thank you for giving me a complete home.
**
After hanging up the phone, Fu Hengyi asked Shen Qinglan, "Han Yi knows now?"
Fu Hengyi nodded, with a hint of a smile in his eyes, "Very excited. He came to brag to me about becoming a daddy." His brother’s happiness also made Fu Hengyi happy for Han Yi.
Shen Qinglan smiled. She could imagine the scene, "It’s really nice." Both Han Yi and Yu Xiaoxuan were lonely people. They both longed for a complete home. Together, they now had their own bloodline, which would allow the warmth to continue for a longer period.
Fu Hengyi nodded in agreement, about to speak when he heard Shen Qinglan yelp softly. He looked at her anxiously, "What’s wrong?"
Shen Qinglan chuckled and shook her head, "Nothing, the baby just kicked me."
Lately, the baby had become more and more active in the womb. Even without trying to feel it, Fu Hengyi often saw the baby stretching and kicking inside her mother’s belly.
"This one is definitely going to be mischievous," Fu Hengyi said.
A boy being a bit rowdy was okay, Shen Qinglan thought to herself. Seeing the sliver of worry in the depths of Fu Hengyi’s eyes, she couldn’t help but laugh. This man always worried that a girl being too rough wouldn’t be endearing to others.
"Fu Hengyi, mix me a green color," Shen Qinglan shifted the topic, focusing her attention on the painting.
Fu Hengyi, having been sidetracked by Shen Qinglan, didn’t dwell on whether the child was naughty or not and concentrated on mixing colors for Shen Qinglan.
Chu Yunrong walked in to see such a warm scene; she exchanged a look with Aunt Zhao and smiled.
Seeing Chu Yunrong come in, Shen Qinglan was about to put down her paintbrush, "Keep painting; don’t mind Mom."
Shen Qinglan’s painting was indeed almost finished, so she ignored Chu Yunrong and focused on her painting. Chu Yunrong seldom watched Shen Qinglan paint with such concentration and seriousness. Seeing her like this, a trace of gratitude suddenly flashed in her eyes. She was thankful to the heavens for letting her wake up in time to make up for any deficiencies in the rest of her life and also thankful that Shen Qinglan was willing to give her this chance to make amends.
Having finished the last stroke, Fu Hengyi naturally took the paintbrush from her hands and packed away the things.
"Mom, did something bring you over this time?" Shen Qinglan sat down beside Chu Yunrong and asked.
Chu Yunrong took out an album from her bag, "The sample pictures of your brother and Xi Yao’s wedding photos are ready. Xi Yao feels you have a good eye, and wants you to help them choose first."
Shen Qinglan was taken aback... if she remembered correctly, they had chosen her wedding photos together.
Shen Qinglan flipped through the album, carefully looking at each photo. The underwater wedding photo was indeed beautiful, much more ethereal than those taken on land. Shen Qinglan particularly liked one of them, where the couple was holding hands amongst the corals, resembling two free fish—the happiness of the couple was palpable even from the photo.
"This one is very good," Shen Qinglan said.
Chu Yunrong nodded, "This one is not bad, it’s a good choice for setting up the scene, but it’s not quite suitable for the bedroom."
Shen Qinglan selected a few more, "These are good too."
Chu Yunrong nodded in satisfaction, "Mhm, let’s go with these. I’ll show them to Xi Yao’s mother later and then let Xi Yao and Jun Yu make the final decision."
Shen Qinglan naturally had no objections to such arrangements. After all, this was her brother’s wedding, and it was only proper to follow what he wanted. In the past half year, aside from Fu Hengyi’s leg injury, the Shen and Fu families had indeed been enjoying one good event after another.
As the old saying goes, "Good news brings high spirits," and this was clearly seen in Chu Yunrong. A few days ago, she accompanied Chu Yunrong to Doctor Zhou, who said that Chu Yunrong’s condition had improved greatly, and it was basically no longer a major issue.
"Qinglan, Hengyi, a few days ago your father’s old comrade sent us some local chickens. I asked Sister-in-law Song to make some soup for you. Remember to come and eat it later," Chu Yunrong said.
At the mention of drinking soup, Shen Qinglan’s face instantly became expressionless. Fu Hengyi smiled gently and agreed, "Okay, Mom. Qinglan and I will come by later."
After Chu Yunrong left, Fu Hengyi held Shen Qinglan’s hand, "If you don’t like the soup, I’ll drink it for you later."
Shen Qinglan gave him a glance, "Really?"
Fu Hengyi nodded, "Of course, serving my wife is my honor."
Shen Qinglan was immediately satisfied. "Fu Hengyi, next time there’s soup, you’ll have to drink it for me too. From now until the child is born, I don’t want to drink any more soup." She had developed a profound aversion to all kinds of soups and broths, which had become evident early on.
Fu Hengyi felt a pang of distress for her, "Alright, I’ll drink it. My wife, you’ve worked hard." As the pregnancy reached its later stages, Shen Qinglan’s leg swelling became more pronounced, and her entire appearance seemed a bit more swollen, but because she was naturally thin, it wasn’t very noticeable to others.
Moreover, Shen Qinglan frequented the bathroom, and occasionally suffered from cramps in the middle of the night. Fu Hengyi stayed with her every day and kept all of this to heart, secretly deciding that once his leg healed, he would undergo surgery.
Of course, Shen Qinglan was unaware of Fu Hengyi’s intentions, and he had yet to speak to her about them.
As evening approached, the security officer brought Fu Hengyi to the Shen Family’s home. Shen Junyu had already returned from the company. As soon as he got home, he and Fu Hengyi went into the study. Han Yi had shown him Fu Hengyi’s business plan last night, and he was quite interested in it as well. With a businessman’s keen intuition, he believed Fu Hengyi’s business plan was completely feasible.
Such a large piece of cake could certainly be consumed by Han Yi and Fu Hengyi alone, but they had never intended to monopolize it. The plan was to involve a few brothers from the start, with Han Yi just taking the lead.
After dinner, Chu Yunrong brought over the chicken soup she prepared for Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi. Shen Qinglan cast a faint glance at Fu Hengyi and then heard him speak, "Mom, I want to eat the buckwheat pancakes made by Sister-in-law Song."
Upon hearing this, Chu Yunrong stood up again, "Okay, I’ll have Sister-in-law Song make some for you," she said and headed for the kitchen.
Fu Hengyi took the bowl of chicken soup in front of Shen Qinglan and finished it in just a few gulps. Shen Junyu watched this scene and clicked his tongue, "Lanlan, you really are wasting Mom’s efforts here. She watched over that chicken soup all afternoon."
Shen Qinglan remained unmoved, "If you want to drink the rest of it, I can give it to you."
Shen Junyu laughed, "That soup was specially prepared for you and Hengyi by Mom, I won’t covet what others enjoy. You two drink more."
Shen Qinglan looked at him, her expression indifferent, and with a glimpse in the corner of her eye at Chu Yunrong who had returned, she turned to Chu Yunrong and said, "Mom, just now, my brother was saying how nourishing the chicken is and asking if you had any more. He was thinking of making soup daily for Sister Xiyao when she gets pregnant."
Hearing this, Chu Yunrong’s eyes immediately crinkled with a smile, "We do have more. Your dad has a comrade in the countryside whose relatives specifically raise them. You can have as much as you like. Jun Yu, are you drinking it now? There’s still some in the pot."
Shen Junyu shook his head, "Mom, I’m full from the meal. I can’t drink anymore."
In front of Fu Hengyi was another bowl of chicken soup, "Hengyi, does this chicken soup not suit your taste?"
Fu Hengyi spoke in a gentle voice, "Not at all, the soup is good. I just had quite a bit already and thought I’d wait a bit before having more." He had just finished a bowl for Shen Qinglan and couldn’t possibly drink more.
Chu Yunrong simply said, "Chicken soup is best when hot, but if you really can’t have it now, drink it later. I’ll have Sister-in-law Song reheat it."
Fu Hengyi smiled and nodded, "Thank you, Mom."
In a corner Chu Yunrong didn’t notice, Shen Junyu glanced at Shen Qinglan with frustration. He had realized that ever since his sister got married, her heart had leaned towards Fu Hengyi and couldn’t be pulled back.
A hint of a smile flashed in Shen Qinglan’s eyes; sometimes her brother really was quite amusing.
Seeing the hint of a smile in her eyes, Shen Junyu indulgently smiled back.
Shen Qian had just stepped through the door when he saw the lively scene in the living room.
"Aqian, why are you back?" asked Chu Yunrong. Today wasn’t Shen Qian’s day off.
Shen Qian just smiled, "I had to come back for something. Is there still food at home? I’m a bit hungry." He hadn’t even had dinner before rushing back.
Chu Yunrong nodded, "Yes, there is. I’ll have Sister Song reheat the food for you."
Once Chu Yunrong left, Shen Qian turned to Fu Hengyi, "Hengyi, after dinner, I’d like to discuss something with you."
Upon hearing this, Shen Qinglan had no particular reaction, but Shen Junyu asked, "Daddy, what’s so secretive?"
"It’s about the military, you wouldn’t understand," replied Shen Qian.
Shen Junyu shut his mouth, not asking any further. Normally, if Shen Qian said it was military business, it meant the matter was not to be discussed, so he didn’t pursue it any further.
Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi exchanged a glance, Fu Hengyi gently shook his head, indicating that he too did not know what Shen Qian wanted to talk to him about.
After finishing the meal, Shen Qian took Fu Hengyi into the study and even closed the door tightly, instructing Chu Yunrong not to come in and disturb them. Chu Yunrong looked at the closed door of the study, shaking her head, "What is so serious that it’s making me anxious?"
She sat down in the living room, where Shen Qinglan and Shen Junyu were watching TV. It was a very popular variety show currently, featuring some adorable children. Shen Qinglan usually didn’t take an interest in these kinds of shows, yet this time she actually settled down to watch it, and seemed to be enjoying it immensely.
Chu Yunrong’s thoughts were initially on the study, but after sitting with Shen Qinglan for a while, she suddenly became interested and discussed the show with her, "Qinglan, look at that little girl, she’s so sensible, that Northeastern accent is just too cute. And that little boy is not bad either, so polite in his interactions. How do the parents educate their children to be so well-behaved?"
Her tone was full of envy and affection. Shen Junyu looked over for a few moments and said, "What’s there to be envious of? The child in Lanlan’s belly will definitely be even cuter and more sensible than them when they’re born."
Chu Yunrong nodded in agreement, "Of course, my grandchild has to be the cutest child in the world."
Shen Junyu chuckled, "Mom, the child hasn’t been born yet, you can’t be bragging like this."
Chu Yunrong shot him a look, "Did I say anything wrong?" Her demeanor clearly said she would not stand for any dissent about her grandchild not being adorable.
Shen Junyu surrendered, "You’re absolutely right, there’s nothing wrong with what you said. Lanlan’s child must be the cutest."
The Shen Family was discussing the baby in the belly, while at the Han Family, Han Yi was also overjoyed to the point of disorientation.
Han Yi helped Yu Xiaoxuan to sit down on the sofa, then ran to the doorway to get her shoes, placing them by her feet, "Here, change into these shoes. High heels aren’t good for the baby. Let’s not wear them anymore. Tomorrow, I’ll have someone replace all the high heels in the house with flats, guaranteed to be stylish and safe, without affecting your beauty in the slightest."
His mouth was drawn up in a grin, ever since he found out Yu Xiaoxuan was pregnant, he had been wearing this expression.
"Han Yi, are you okay?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked.
Han Yi shook his head, smiling radiantly, "I’m fine, what could be wrong with me? I’m so happy. What would you like for dinner? I’ll have Auntie make it for you." This Auntie had just been hired since before, Han Yi and Yu Xiaoxuan didn’t like having strangers at home, so they didn’t have a housemaid, only a part-time cleaner come to tidy up.
"Anything is fine, I’m not picky." Yu Xiaoxuan said.
Han Yi immediately became serious, "How can you be so nonchalant? You’re a pregnant woman now, carrying a child which is very hard work. You absolutely can’t be careless, we must ensure your nutrition is fully provided. Forget it, this is your first pregnancy and I’m going to be a father for the first time, we definitely don’t understand this area. The Auntie has experience caring for pregnant women, I’ll let her decide what to do. It’s a good opportunity to test her skills, and if we’re not satisfied, we can make a change."
Saying so, he ran off to discuss the dinner menu for pregnant women with the new Auntie. Yu Xiaoxuan lowered her head, looking at her belly, and only then did her heart truly settle.
After Han Yi discussed with the Auntie what to have for dinner, he returned immediately, sat down beside Yu Xiaoxuan, opened his laptop, glanced at Yu Xiaoxuan and moved a bit farther away, "Computers are radiated, not good for you."
"What are you doing?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked curiously.
Han Yi, beaming with a smile, "Planning a pregnancy calendar. I’ll set up the spreadsheet first and then consult a professional doctor to fill in the precautions for pregnancy and put it on the desktop. Look at it every day. I also need to prepare a detailed dietary plan for the pregnancy. Your parents are no longer with us, I must take good care of you."
Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes became slightly moist, almost moved to tears. How fortunate was she to meet a man like Han Yi.
Han Yi was absorbed in his own excitement, oblivious to Yu Xiaoxuan’s emotions. Yu Xiaoxuan dabbed at the corner of her eyes and looked at Han Yi who was fussing, her smile tender.
