Chapter 347: 349. Shen Junyu’s Counterattack 2 (19 updates)

Cao Shiyu was stunned, and couldn’t believe her husband, who had always obeyed her and was even more submissive after their son was born, now yelling at her!

"You’re yelling at me because you’re in a bad mood, when it’s not even my fault. Find whoever made you upset."

Her husband’s face darkened. Recalling what his boss had said today and looking at his wife, his love for her was nowhere to be found. He jumped up from the bed, "If it weren’t for you meddling with the wrong people, would I have been fired?"

Cao Shiyu didn’t hear the beginning, only catching the end, "What, you got fired? You didn’t do anything wrong, what right do they have to fire you?"

Cao Shiyu looked ready to confront someone. Seeing her husband only made her angrier, "Don’t you dare show your face around me. I itch to slap you when I see you."

"What do you mean? I’m standing up for you because you were fired, and now I’m in the wrong?"

"Fine, let me ask you, what exactly did you go out and do the night before last?"

"What could I have done? I went to a classmate’s company gala. What do you think, that I cheated on you?" Cao Shiyu was also angry, unable to tolerate being suspected.

Her husband pointed at her, "Think hard about what you’ve done. Today, I had barely arrived at work when the director called me into his office, threw a stack of reimbursement receipts in my face, and told me to get lost, saying my wife had offended someone we shouldn’t have, and the company couldn’t keep me anymore."

Those receipts were for everyday entertainments, reimbursed at the company; everyone did it, and it wasn’t a problem as everyone turned a blind eye. But, if the higher-ups wanted to pick on someone, this was the perfect excuse.

Her husband was generally serious and responsible at work, his only fault being the excessive reimbursement receipts. His boss had used this to fire him, and finally told him why.

Cao Shiyu was dumbfounded, wanting to say it wasn’t her business, but suddenly recalling her visit to Chen Su yesterday, she faintly understood the reason and looked at her husband apologetically, "How would I know Shen... can be so narrow-minded."

Hearing this, her husband realized it was indeed his wife’s doing, "What did you exactly do?"

Cao Shiyu shrunk her neck, too scared to speak. Speaking out could link everything to her, essentially digging her own grave. She regretted giving Chen Su that suggestion.

Cao Shiyu remained silent when suddenly her mother-in-law burst through the bedroom door, wielding a slipper and started hitting Cao Shiyu, cursing, "You disaster-bringer, I knew you were no good. Living a lazy, good-for-nothing life and now you’ve even cost your husband his job. Do you want to starve us all?"

Cao Shiyu cried out in pain, begging her husband for help. As he moved to restrain his mother, he discovered her surprising strength; she pushed her son away, "Back off! Today, I must teach this shameless woman a lesson."

"Who’s shameless, you old hag?" snapped Cao Shiyu.

Her mother-in-law glared, "I’m talking about you! You’re shameless. While my son’s at work, I’ve seen you flirting with a man from our complex several times, making eyes right in front of me, as if I’m blind."

"Old hag, stop slandering me!" Cao Shiyu shouted back. Her unusually defensive reaction immediately appeared guilty to her husband, and his expression darkened.

"Am I making this up? Should I bring someone to confront you face-to-face?"

Cao Shiyu turned to her husband, her eyes panicked, "Don’t listen to her nonsense. I didn’t do anything wrong. I only spoke to him when I bumped into him, there’s nothing between us."

Her husband’s face was expressionless, "If you’ve done nothing, why are you acting so guilty?"

Cao Shiyu’s face stiffened, "Aren’t I just afraid of you misunderstanding?"

Her husband’s gaze turned icy, "If you haven’t done anything, why fear my misunderstanding?"

"No point talking to her," her mother-in-law interjected, "She’s been restless. Even if she hasn’t physically cheated, she has emotionally. And now you’ve lost your job. Your father and I worked so hard to get you that job, and now it’s gone."

Thinking of his job, her husband’s heart ached. Seeing his mother preparing to hit Cao Shiyu again with a slipper, he turned and left the bedroom, even making sure to close the door behind him.

Dumbfounded, Cao Shiyu was caught off guard as her mother-in-law grabbed her hair and started beating her relentlessly.

Cao Shiyu cursed as she resisted; she cursed her husband and her mother-in-law. The more she cursed, the harder her mother-in-law struck.

By the time the mother-in-law stopped, Cao Shiyu’s condition could only be described as a miserable sight.

Her husband had been sitting on the living room sofa the entire time, coldly listening to the noises coming from the bedroom. It wasn’t that he was heartless or indifferent to the marital bond, but he could endure Cao Shiyu causing him to lose his job; he could endure her lack of respect for his mother on a day-to-day basis; he could even endure her dislike for going to work. He could tolerate all these things, but what he couldn’t tolerate was her cheating on him, even just emotionally.

He believed that even if his mother was dissatisfied with Cao Shiyu, she wouldn’t fabricate such accusations. Since she mentioned it, there must be truth to it.

Cao Shiyu lay on the ground, her clothes torn and messy, and clusters of hair scattered around her. Despite her age, her mother-in-law’s strength was not to be underestimated, overpowering Cao Shiyu completely.

The mother-in-law rose from the ground, glared at Cao Shiyu, and said, "You disaster-bringer, I will have my son divorce you." With that, she walked out of the bedroom towards her son on the sofa, "You treasure such a woman, and now you taste the consequences. Is a pretty face useful? She doesn’t have a brain. I told you to divorce her before, and you wouldn’t listen. Now I’m asking you: do you want to divorce her? If you do, everything in this house will belong to you. If you still want to live with this woman after all this, then I’m taking back this house. Even if I sell the house and donate the money, not a penny will go to you. Will you divorce her or not, give me an answer."

His face changed uncertainly, but he finally nodded, "I will divorce."

The mother-in-law was satisfied, "If you’re going to divorce, then quickly do it. Let’s go now."

He walked into the bedroom and looked at Cao Shiyu, who still lay on the ground pretending to be dead, "Get up."

Cao Shiyu looked at him coldly, "Are you still a man? Seeing your own wife get beaten and you do nothing, even shutting the door to let others beat me?"

"Get up, we are getting a divorce!" he said sharply.

Cao Shiyu’s face changed slightly, "What are you saying, you want to divorce me? Have you lost your mind?"

"I lost my mind when I married you. Haven’t I treated you well? And you dare to cheat on me?" he asked coldly.

A flicker of guilt crossed Cao Shiyu’s eyes, "Just talking to someone also counts as cheating? Dare you say you haven’t talked to other women?" Living with the same man for too long, even if he’s good, can lead to aesthetic fatigue.

"Cao Shiyu, you’re twisting the truth. If it was just talking, would my mother say so?"

Cao Shiyu inwardly cursed the damned old woman. Seeing that her husband was really going to divorce her, she quickly got up from the ground and grabbed her husband’s sleeve, "You just listen to your mother’s one-sided story, aren’t you willing to hear my explanation? After all these years of marriage, don’t you know how I feel about you?" Her heartfelt words, however, were unable to move his heart.

"Let’s divorce, let’s go to the civil affairs bureau now," he said crisply.

Cao Shiyu reached out and held his hand, her tone gentler, "Husband, I was wrong. I know I shouldn’t have offended that person. I’ll apologize to them right away, is it alright if I ask them to forgive you? I promise I won’t make this mistake again." She shifted focus from the main issue.

But her husband wasn’t so easily fooled, "Cao Shiyu, I was angry and furious because I lost my job, but I endured that. What I can’t endure is you cheating on me. You should know, don’t tell me that’s not cheating; emotional affairs count too."

Seeing that her husband was determined to divorce, Cao Shiyu’s expression changed and she dropped the frail woman act, "Divorce, is it? Fine, the house goes to me, the savings split between us, and the child goes with you."

The sudden change in her expression caught her husband off guard. He had thought Cao Shiyu would never agree to a divorce, but now her quick change made him wonder if this was really the true face of the person he had been living with. He suddenly felt a chill in his heart.

"You can dream about splitting the house; this house is mine, not my son’s!" The mother-in-law interjected upon hearing Cao Shiyu’s demands, walking in with a feather duster in her hand. Cao Shiyu swallowed back the words she was about to say at the sight of the feather duster.

A feather duster hurts much more than the sole of a shoe when used to hit someone.

"Divorce, you can only leave this house with nothing; the grandson also stays with our family," the mother-in-law declared.

Cao Shiyu stood her ground, "You think you can benefit from both a daughter-in-law and a grandson so easily? In this world, there’s no such cheap deal. Either the child goes with me, or the house and money go to me."

The three argued in the room. In the end, her husband and Cao Shiyu went to the civil affairs bureau; the savings went to Cao Shiyu, while the house and child stayed with the husband. She indeed wanted the house, but since it was registered under the mother-in-law’s name, it had nothing to do with her.
