Chapter 346: 348. Shen Junyu’s Counterattack 1 (18 updates)
Shen Junyu left Chen Su’s house and went home. He didn’t go to find Cao Shiyu, although the surveillance footage suggested that Cao Shiyu was the instigator, but that didn’t mean Shen Junyu would let her off the hook.
Cao Shiyu had been happy since leaving the banquet last night, humming a song all the way home. Her husband, looking at her, curiously asked, "What are you giggling about all by yourself?"
Cao Shiyu laughed, "I just did you a big favor. How are you going to thank me?"
Now even more curious, her husband asked, "What favor did you do for me?"
Cao Shiyu grinned mysteriously, "I can’t tell you now, you’ll find out later. Just don’t forget to thank me properly when you get promoted." Saying that, she merrily went to take a shower.
Cao Shiyu’s mother-in-law looked at her son, "What is your wife up to?"
The husband shrugged, "How would I know? I just asked her, and she didn’t tell me."
The mother-in-law’s face fell, "Look at you, unable to keep your own wife in check, coming home in the middle of the night all dressed up, and you don’t even ask where she has been? You really are carefree."
The husband laughed, "Mom, Shiyu already told me. She went to a company year-end party with a classmate just for fun. She spends all day at home with the kids and hardly gets any entertainment. It’s understandable that she wants to go out once in a while, and she wasn’t even late coming home."
The mother-in-law waved her hand dismissively, "Alright, alright, stop making excuses for her. In the end, she’s your wife. If you don’t mind, why should I bother, and risk being disliked."
Out of resignation, the husband laughed. They say daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law are natural enemies. It wasn’t absolutely true in their family, but the relationship between his wife and his mother had never been harmonious.
The husband walked into the bedroom. Cao Shiyu had finished her shower and changed into a seductive outfit, openly inviting him in such an exposed manner. With a slight curl of his lips, he locked the bedroom door.
The next day, Cao Shiyu estimated the time to call Chen Su, but her phone was turned off, "Hehe, I didn’t expect these two had such intense encounters."
Her husband, lying beside her, didn’t quite catch what she said and asked, "What was that?"
Cao Shiyu replied, "It’s nothing, go back to sleep."
By the afternoon, Cao Shiyu still couldn’t get through to Chen Su, and she started to feel something was off. She thought about going out when her mother-in-law spoke up, "You came back so late last night, and now you want to go out again? You’re a mother, shouldn’t you stay home with the kids? Instead of always wanting to run around, shouldn’t you act like a wife and mother?"
Cao Shiyu rolled her eyes and was about to retort when her husband pulled her back, "Mom, Shiyu isn’t going anywhere. I just noticed we ran out of shower gel, so I asked her to buy one. You know what, I’ll go get it instead."
He pulled Cao Shiyu aside, "Go wherever it is later, after mom leaves tonight."
Cao Shiyu quirked an eyebrow, "Where is mom going tonight?"
"She’s going to my sister’s house and will leave soon. It’s only half an hour, just wait."
Hearing this, Cao Shiyu didn’t bother arguing further and set her bag down, "Alright, I’ll wait."
True to her word, the mother-in-law left soon after. As soon as she was gone, Cao Shiyu also left the house and took a taxi straight to Chen Su’s place. Arriving at the entrance of Chen Su’s residential complex, she saw Shen Junyu’s car driving out.
Cao Shiyu’s eyes lit up, surprised that their relationship had progressed even better than she had anticipated, with Shen Junyu personally driving Chen Su home.
With that thought, Cao Shiyu cheerfully went to knock on the door.
Chen Su came to open the door, her expression flat upon seeing Cao Shiyu. Cao Shiyu, with a face full of joy and suggestive look, asked, "Did you have a good time last night?"
Chen Su sat down on the sofa without uttering a word.
"Chen Su, was last night very intense? Did you use what I gave you? Did it make you feel a lot better?"
"Shut up!" Overwhelmed by Cao Shiyu’s incessant chatter, Chen Su finally exploded.
Cao Shiyu paused, staring blankly at Chen Su, "Chen Su, what’s wrong with you?"
Chen Su’s face was very pale, her gaze icy, "Get out of here."
As soon as these words were said, Cao Shiyu couldn’t take it anymore, staring at Chen Su, "I mean, Chen Su, you can’t be like this. I helped you get what you wanted, and this is how you repay me?"
Chen Su reached out and pushed Cao Shiyu, "Get out of my house; my house is not welcoming you. Leave now, and don’t ever come back."
Cao Shiyu had a quick temper, worsened over the years by a husband who, although not particularly accomplished, had been utterly subservient to her, leading to her explosive temper, unable to tolerate the slightest inconvenience. Now being yelled at by Chen Su, there was no way she could endure it.
"Chen Su, are you thinking of burning bridges after crossing the river?, I helped you get Shen Junyu, gave you the chance to marry into a wealthy family as a young madam. You’re not even married into it yet, and you’re burning bridges already? What if I go tell Shen Junyu about what you have done? Do you think he would still marry you?"
Chen Su’s expression was wooden, she was extremely agitated, even furious, "Are you leaving or not? If not, I’m calling security."
Cao Shiyu, furiously, "Chen Su, you shameless woman, you really want to burn bridges? Do you believe that I’ll instantly call Shen Junyu?"
Chen Su finally showed a different expression, looking coldly at Cao Shiyu, "Go ahead, call him. I’ll watch you do it. Shen Junyu just left not long ago, he might not have gone far. Maybe you can still call him back and we can confront each other face to face. Don’t worry, I certainly won’t deny anything."
Seeing Chen Su like this, Cao Shiyu felt unsure instead. Her eyes flickered as Chen Su continued, "If you don’t have his phone number, I can give it to you. Do you want it? Call him now, and if not, then leave immediately."
Cao Shiyu’s face turned ashen, "Fine then, Chen Su. You’ve got nerve. I’ll leave, but after I leave, you’re no friend of mine. You think you’re really married into a wealthy family? I’m telling you, you’re dreaming."
She slammed the door and left. Chen Su closed the door, sat on the ground, her expression wooden.
Cao Shiyu left Chen Su’s house, feeling more and more that something wasn’t right. The way Chen Su reacted didn’t seem like someone whose wish had been fulfilled. Could there have been a glitch? But last night, she saw Chen Su helping Shen Junyu inside with her own eyes. The drug was so potent that even the most willful couldn’t resist, it didn’t make sense to fail. Moreover, she had even seen Shen Junyu leaving the place.
Thinking this, Cao Shiyu consoled herself, suppressing the faint unease at the bottom of her heart. She took a cab home, and her husband saw her furious face and couldn’t help asking, "What’s wrong? You went out all happy, how come you returned angry? Who upset you?"
Cao Shiyu scoffed, "It’s that... Forget it, the more I think about it, the angrier I get. By the way, has there been any development on what the office director mentioned? Is the chief stepping down and are you taking over?"
Her husband sighed, "No chance. I heard they’re parachuting someone in for the position. We have no connections inside; how am I supposed to edge someone out? Let nature take its course."
Cao Shiyu’s face darkened, "Let it be, let it be. Look at you, you’ve been in this place for years, and others who joined after you have been promoted, but you’re still marking time. It’s exactly this non-competitive spirit of yours, that’s why good things never come your way."
Her husband seemed used to being criticized and his expression didn’t change; he even smiled, "What’s there to worry about? I may not vie or strive, but our life is much more comfortable than others. I might miss out on good things, but bad things don’t come to me either." He was very open-minded, aware of his own capabilities, not really caring about promotions.
Cao Shiyu sneered, "Is our life sustained by what you earn? It’s all from your parents. If you had fought for some reputation for yourself and could rely on yourself, would I have had to put up with your mother’s nagging all the time?"
Her husband was troubled, "What can I do about it? I have no one up above, I can’t just run to the director and say it’s my turn because I have seniority, can I?"
Of course, that’s not something he could say, or he might even lose the job he had now. Cao Shiyu calmed down, "Alright, leave it to me. I’ll figure something out." She was still thinking of starting with Chen Su, securing a small position for her husband. Even without relying on the Shen Family’s influence, just on Chen Su’s account alone – after all, she had helped her significantly, a small favor in exchange couldn’t be too much to ask, right?
But given Chen Su’s current temper and her own lack of calm, Cao Shiyu decided to wait a couple of days before approaching Chen Su.
Just before those couple of days passed, the good days at Cao Shiyu’s home ended.
On Monday, as soon as her husband arrived at his workplace, he was called by the leaders. Not long after, he came out of the director’s office with a dark face, and started packing up his things in his own office, his colleagues looking on curiously. One colleague came over to ask what was happing, but was met with a stern glare from her husband, "None of your business, stop being nosy!"
The colleague pulled a face, "Cut the attitude, you’re getting fired anyway."
Her husband, with a livid face, coldly glanced at his colleague, and left holding his belongings.
Cao Shiyu was at home applying a face mask when she saw her husband return, puzzled, "Why are you back so soon? Did you forget something?"
Her husband grimaced and didn’t reply, walking into the bedroom and flopping onto the bed.
Cao Shiyu followed him, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Her husband glared at Cao Shiyu, rage in his eyes, pointing at the door, "I’m in a really bad mood right now and don’t want to argue, just get out."
