Chapter 318: 320. Danger Approaching (Update 40)

Fu Hengyi watched the scene without speaking. Because of his relationship with Shen Qinglan, he had been paying attention to Zhao Wei for some time now. Looking at the man who was currently fighting, a trace of admiration flickered in his eyes. Indeed, as Meng Liang had said, Zhao Wei had improved, and compared to when he first started, he had learned to use techniques in a fight instead of charging ahead like a bull using brute force.

"Zhao Wei is about to lose," Qian Fei said indifferently.

Sure enough, one of the daggers from the Red Team was already pointed at Zhao Wei’s heart. Zhao Wei had lost.

Zhao Wei looked at the dagger in front of his chest with regret. His eyes were full of a desire to continue fighting as he looked at the three adversaries like they were three precious treasures, "How about we continue fighting? No matter the outcome, I’ll assume I’ve lost."

The three men from the Red Team gave each other a speechless look and shook their heads in unison. It was a joke. They had barely managed to subdue this lunatic; they would be foolish to agree to fight him again.

Zhao Wei sat down with significant regret.

The three were about to leave; they still had to continue searching for the Blue Team’s base.

"Hey, you three, wait up," Meng Liang called out, and only then did they realize the presence of others—they hadn’t noticed them until just now.

The first thing the three men noticed was the armbands on Fu Hengyi and the others—black, not red. If they weren’t red, then they were enemies, and they immediately assumed a defensive stance.

Had they not run out of blank cartridges, they would have likely taken action already.

Qian Fei and the others were speechless. They only just reacted now; that reflex arc was quite long. If they were real enemies, they would probably be dead by now.

"You are no match for us; don’t resist," Meng Liang said.

The three looked at him as if he were an idiot, clearly not believing his words. Meng Liang touched his nose. Were his words that unbelievable?

At this moment, they were unaware that danger was quietly approaching.

On the border, King looked at the vast expanse of rainforest in front of him, his brow slightly raised as he turned to Allen, "This rainforest is so vast; if we go in to search, who knows when we’ll find what we’re looking for. Besides, the commotion could alert the Z country’s military. By that time, we’d be done for."

Allen chuckled, "When did I ever say we were going to act within the rainforest? A search of such a large area would definitely alarm the military. Instead of that, we should lure Fu Hengyi out, preferably out of Z country’s border."

After all, the border with LG was just a step away; one could "cross the border" inadvertently.

King looked at Allen and smiled, "Good idea, worthy of Allen."

King glanced at the men he brought along, "Allen, I didn’t bring many men this time. So, you send someone to lure Fu Hengyi out, and we’ll take action."

A smirk curled on the corner of Allen’s mouth, a mocking arc, "King, we had an agreement before." The idea of him provoking the Z country’s military was daunting. If they got really angry, there would be no good end for him.

"Besides, you have clashed with Fu Hengyi multiple times, with new grudges on top of old ones; they’ll be easier to fool..." Allen tried hard to persuade King.

King frowned in thought, "Fine, I’ll lure Fu Hengyi out, but once he’s out, you must find a way to take care of him."

Naturally, Allen agreed.

This time Allen and King each only brought a dozen men, totaling thirty-five, but each one of them was an elite. They were determined to eliminate Fu Hengyi. Of course, if they could capture Fu Hengyi alive, take him back for some torture before killing him, that would be even better.

To avoid causing a greater disturbance, King picked three men to accompany him inside, but once they went in, they delved deep.

The military exercise had already reached its sixth day, which essentially meant it was nearly over. The Red Team and the Blue Team had already made their way to the core area. King walked for a long time without encountering a single person.

"Where the hell have these guys hidden themselves?" King was slightly irritated. The deeper they went, the higher the likelihood of being discovered and the smaller the chance of escape.

"Boss, could it be that woman has tricked us?" Beyoncé said darkly.

At those words, King’s expression darkened. If that was true, unless he died here, he would make sure Mrs. Jin paid dearly once he got out.

"Let’s search first," King said. Upon closer inspection, there were indeed traces of a fight around. If one looked carefully, they could find one or two spent blank cartridges.

Having advanced a distance, King heard a burst of gunfire, his lips curling into a smile as he quickened his pace toward the sounds.

Fu Hengyi had just dealt with a small squad from the Red Team when the sound of gunfire caught his attention. His expression changed dramatically, and he had a bad feeling in his heart. The sound of gunfire he had just heard would be indistinguishable to most, but to someone like him, there was no mistaking the difference between blanks and live ammunition.

"Captain," Mu Liancheng said with a grave expression.

Fu Hengyi’s face darkened. He opened his earpiece, a communication device used only by team leaders to contact the command center, which typically wouldn’t be activated until the end of the military exercise.

After connecting with the command center, he reported his findings and his suspicions. The leaders in the command center instantly changed their expressions. Commander Liu stood up from his chair and asked, "Fu Hengyi, is this information confirmed?"

"Eighty percent." Fu Hengyi replied, and knowing he was always cautious, his eighty percent was almost equivalent to the actual truth. Commander Liu’s face grew somber, his eyes filled with cold light, "Notify everyone the exercise is over. Send someone to bring them back immediately. Prepare live ammunition, ready for battle!"

Soon, everyone received the same instructions: the exercise was over, assemble immediately.

In their confusion, the group headed towards the designated assembly point, while Fu Hengyi and a few others exchanged glances and quickly proceeded in the opposite direction.

Their agile figures shuttled through the jungle, their faces exceptionally grave. If live ammunition was actually involved, it indicated a serious situation.

When Fu Hengyi arrived at the source of the signal, he saw a body lying in a pool of blood, eyes open, with fresh blood gushing from a wound in the chest. Judging by the markings on his head, the casualty was likely a ’combat fatality’ from the Red Team, waiting to be retrieved, who had now truly fallen in combat.

Meng Liang immediately stepped forward, checked the pulse of the fallen, and with reddened eyes exclaimed, "Captain!"

Fu Hengyi’s expression was icy cold, his gaze as sharp as if it had been steeped in ice, fixed upon the man’s chest.

Back in the command center, upon receiving Fu Hengyi’s report, all leaders wore grim expressions. To have an intruder slip under their watch and lose a comrade in the process was an absolute disgrace, a bare provocation.

"Fu Hengyi, we will send you the live ammunition immediately. You cannot act on your own now," Commander Liu interjected, knowing Fu Hengyi’s temperament.

"Yes."

The wait was drawn-out and torturous, especially with the sacrificed comrade lying in front of them. Meng Liang knelt down, closed the eyes of the fallen, "Rest assured, we will avenge you, no matter who it is, to the death." The smile that usually graced his face was absent, replaced only by a chilling frost.

Clear signs of departure were evident at the scene. "Captain, they deliberately left these tracks for us to follow," said Qian Fei.

Rescue personnel arrived promptly with the weapons they needed. Accompanying them were several new Sharp Blade recruits who had come for the military exercise. Fu Hengyi looked at everyone and cautioned, "Stay safe."

The enemy had intentionally lured them there, which was apparent from the traces they left behind. Knowing it was a trap, Fu Hengyi still resolutely gave chase.

He didn’t know what he was up against, but in the face of his fallen comrade, he couldn’t retreat. Even less so could he retreat in the face of his nation’s duty and honor.

"Captain." Mu Liancheng called out, his eyes welling up upon seeing another fallen body; even the toughest among them felt a sting. This was the third they had found.

Fu Hengyi’s eyes were dark, as if peering into the abyss of Hell, clenching his weapon tightly.

The tracks split here, meaning the enemy had divided into two groups. "Split into two teams, search separately, and signal immediately once found."

Mu Liancheng led several new recruits in one direction, while Qian Fei and Meng Liang followed Fu Hengyi.

Soon, Fu Hengyi’s team neared the edge of the rainforest. King and his men were casually leaning against tree trunks, clearly waiting for them.

"Fu Hengyi, long time no see. Do you like the gift I sent you?" King greeted with a sneering smile, the scar by his eye looking particularly ferocious.

Fu Hengyi looked calm, but the veins on the hand holding his weapon betrayed the fury in his heart. "King," he said through gritted teeth.

King gave a slight smile, "Good, you remember me. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, Fu Hengyi."

No one knew how the battle started, but in the blink of an eye, the air was filled with the sound of gunfire. King’s plan was to draw Fu Hengyi out to the edge of the rainforest, but

Fu Hengyi saw through his intentions. Knowing he was the target, Fu Hengyi turned and sprinted deeper into the jungle.

King glanced at the nearby border of the rainforest, then at the direction Fu Hengyi had taken off in, gritted his teeth, and followed. Such an opportunity was rare; if he didn’t deal with Fu Hengyi now, he’d become an endless trouble in the future.

After giving an order to one of his men to find Allen, King chased after Fu Hengyi with determination.

Three against three, and now at a distance from the rainforest border, backup wouldn’t immediately find them. Fu Hengyi chose not to flee anymore but to confront them head-on. His strength was on par with King, and as Qian Fei and Meng Liang dealt with their opponents, they moved to assist Fu Hengyi.

Fu Hengyi’s expression suddenly changed. "Be careful."

Before Qian Fei could react, a sharp pain erupted in his chest, followed by a gush of blood.
