Chapter 397: Chapter 398: You Won’t Get Off That Easily

As she watched the familiar scenes quickly receding on both sides, Bao’er felt a sense of hollowness in her heart. Was this what it was like to be a rootless duckweed, as described in books? Where exactly did her future lie? Was it something she could clearly see?

Bao’er turned her head to look at Chu You, who was driving calmly. In that moment, her eyes seemed to light up with color. Her future was with him!

He glanced at Bao’er from the corner of his eye and smiled slightly. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"No reason."

Not delving deeper into her inexplicable statement, Chu You thought for a while before dialing his special assistant’s number.

"Hey boss."

"What’s the progress on that assignment I gave you?"

"Everything is progressing smoothly. Our Changling branch has already sent someone to assist Lin Luor, and our subsidiary in Mohai has arranged a contact at that hospital." The assistant quickly reported the situation.

"Good. Wishing you all the best with it."

Soon, their luxuriously flamboyant car entered the Changling City Area. After having a meal at a restaurant, the pair entered a high-end mall, Bao’er in tow.

While picking out clothes, Bao’er was rather shy. Each time she tried on a piece of clothing, she glanced expectantly at Chu You.

The young Bao’er was not like the grown-up one. Her features were more delicate and soft, and there was a hint of the innocence of a yet-to-bloom bud in her. Especially her eyes, they were truly beautiful, pleasing, and endearing. When she changed into a new outfit, it really was an eye-catching sight, earning compliments from both the store staff and other customers alike.

Seeing Bao’er’s happy and expectant eyes yearning for his approval, Chu You felt his anger ebbing away, temporarily forgetting his troubles.

Chu You purchased a lot of things at that shop, all for Bao’er, including clothes, pants, shoes, bags, and so on...

After having the mall’s staff load all these items into his car, and noticing that it was starting to grow dark, Chu You left the place with Bao’er, heading towards a path that was both familiar and strange.

"Brother, where are we going?"

"To my house!"

"Umm... does anyone else live at Brother’s house?" Bao’er seemed a bit nervous.

After some consideration, he responded, "No one else. After our parents passed away, only the housekeepers who clean the rooms occasionally are there. There’s no one else."

"Oh, so will Brother return to Yuanjing?"

In that moment, Chu You felt an impulse to relocate his old nest to Changling. However, upon further consideration, he shook his head in denial. "Do you like Yuanjing, Bao’er?"

"I... wherever Brother goes, I will follow."

Before long, they arrived at their destination. This was a wealthy neighborhood, filled with villas, but these were much larger than the small villa he had in Yuanjing. The maintenance fees alone for these huge villas were something the average person wouldn’t be able to fathom.

Chu You drove into a huge villa. Its exterior itself was quite expansive. Upon arriving at the front gate and parking the car, Chu You opened the door and, hand-in-hand with Bao’er, entered the villa.

The ambient decor had a hint of a retro tone, appearing somewhat dark. Chu You didn’t particularly like this aesthetic, though.

"Uncle and Aunt once lived here, right?" Bao’er asked.

"Yes, I used to live here, too. Let’s not unpack our stuff now. We’ll return to Yuanjing tomorrow. Let’s just spend the night here."

Perhaps because no one had lived here for quite a while, the villa had a creepy and eerie vibe. Fear hung in Bao’er’s eyes.

Later, Chu You led Bao’er upstairs to his room. The bedroom was immaculately clean. Everything was exactly as he remembered, with nothing out of place.

"Bao’er, are you tired? How about you take a bath and get some rest early?" He suggested, seeing Bao’er looking somewhat fatigued.

"Ok."

The room was fully furnished with everything one could possibly need. After leading Bao’er into the bathroom and teaching her how to operate some of the fixtures, Chu You stepped out.

His phone rang at that moment. After checking the caller ID, his face went cold. He picked up the phone from the table, lit up a cigarette and answered the call.

Old Liu’s voice came through from the other end of the line. "Boss, I’ve checked it out. The guy’s track record is terrible. If convicted, he’d be finished."

Finally, Old Liu asked, "So, should we report him to the police now?"

After snuffing out his cigarette, Chu You thought for a moment and said, "Wait for my call."

"Alright, oh yes, one more thing. Regarding you and Bao’er - everything has been arranged. When would it be convenient for the two of you to sign the documents?"

"Tomorrow."

"Alright, can you let me know where you’re staying? So that I can arrange for them to come over."

"I’m at home. The address is..."

After hanging up the call, the bathroom door opened. Chu You looked up to see Bao’er, her hair still somewhat damp, dressed in her new clothes. Her complexion was radiant.

"There should be a hairdryer in the room. Dry your hair quickly so that you don’t catch a cold."

"Okay."

After addressing Bao’er, who turned around and went back into the room, Chu You called his special assistant. The sound of a hairdryer echoed from the room.

"Look up a teacher from Youyou Orphanage named Qin Fenghua, and send his personal details to my email. I’ll wait for your reply."

"Yes boss!" the special assistant replied without asking any further questions, immediately getting to work.

Bao’er emerged from the bathroom once more, her hair now dry and lustrous. Having taken a bath, Bao’er resembled a full blossom on the verge of opening.

"You can sleep in this room tonight, I’ll sleep next door." He stood up and walked to his computer desk. This room too had a computer in it.

"Mmm..." Bao’er softly agreed, moving to the edge of the bed.

Chu You had now switched on the computer. Although it wasn’t as powerful as the one he used back in Yuanjing, it was sufficient enough to check his emails.

Bao’er cast a glance at Chu You, busy with his computer, and then sat on the bed. She silently undid her clothes and pants, the rustling sounds filling the room as she put her phone under the pillow, and then crawled into the bed.

The bedsheet had a pleasant scent to it. Was this Chu You’s smell? She quickly realized it couldn’t be. But for some unexplainable reason, or perhaps it was psychological, the entire bed had a comforting and reassuring aura about it.

Chu You had now gathered all of Qin Fenghua’s information, and after recording it, proceeded to look at other emails. These were from Wei Hong and contained various reliable game-related information, along with her personal analysis – quite professional indeed.

The target’s in-game activities were constantly monitored. There was even information from Xia Yueying. The Wan’s world had established another guild, but it was quite low-key.

After browsing through these emails and checking the time, Chu You browsed some online forums before finally shutting everything down and moving away from the computer desk.

Seeing the soft black hair peeking out from the bundled up quilt on the bed, Chu You’s steps lightened as he lightly approached and looked down at Bao’er.

Bao’er had her eyes closed now. Her long lashes made her look adorable, especially the flush of red on her tender cheeks was hard to resist pinching. Her breathing was even, signaling that she had already fallen asleep. Yesterday must have really worn her out.

Taking a glance outside at the darkening sky, Chu You looked at Bao’er one last time, turned off the room lights and quietly left the room, gently closing the door behind him.

The corridor was even darker, making the interior of the mansion seem somewhat deserted and eerie.

Using a small remote controller, he pressed a few buttons to light up the entire mansion, except for Bao’er’s room. Everything lit up brightly all at once.

That felt better...

Finally, Chu You got into his SUV and left the mansion, heading in the direction of his target.

During the journey, Chu You dialed Old Liu’s number and uttered two words: "Call the cops!"

As time passed, Chu You stopped his car near a residential area. He knew that one of the houses in this area belonged to Qin Fenghua, and now he was waiting for the police to come and arrest him.

Soon, the sound of sirens could be heard from the end of the street. Knowing that the police were on their way, he tucked his car into an inconspicuous spot and stepped out.

Seemed like he wanted to watch the spectacle unfold?

The police acted swiftly as they stormed towards a building, appearing to know the criminal’s whereabouts. It was at this point that Chu You observed the area’s surveillance cameras.

Unlike last time, there was no trace of feeling like he was being watched.

With a slight inhalation, he walked towards the scene. His head slightly lowered, blending in like any bystander.

By then, a crowd of onlookers had gathered around, curiously observing, unaware of who had gotten into trouble.

After a while, the police emerged from the building, escorting a handcuffed man with his head down.

This man was indeed Qin Fenghua!

Chu You glanced around at the gathered crowd, covered his head with his hat and visually ’locked on’ to Qin Fenghua.

Due to previous practice, that special sensation emerged quickly within him, shooting straight into his mind...

This time, his target was not an inanimate object, but a living creature!

If you do what you’re not supposed to, I’ll have to make you my guinea pig!

Just as the onlookers were pointing and murmuring about the captured man, as Qin Fenghua was about to be put in the police car, he suddenly collapsed, screaming in agony.

He writhed in pain, his entire face twisting horrifically as his feet thrashed about on the ground.

Unable to cope with the pain, Qin Fenghua opened his mouth and bit the handcuffs. His bloodshot eyes, horrific and sinister, were actually biting hard on the metal handcuffs. Like this could alleviate his pain somehow.

These circumstances left both police officers and bystanders shocked. What could have happened to him?!

It was as if he had turned mad, completely unanticipated...

No one knew, but in the crowd, a man in a hooded jacket moved slightly. The grey pupils of Chu You’s eyes gradually faded away until they completely disappeared.

Qin Fenghua now lay on the ground, his mouth foaming and his eyes empty, but he hadn’t died.

In an instant, Chu You had changed his original plan to kill the man.

It suddenly occurred to him that that might have been... too easy on Qin Fenghua.

Chu You, better keep your game’s whimsicality to yourself! These thoughts suddenly came into mind...

Just then, Chu You’s phone rang. He picked it up to see it was Bao’er.

His eyes immediately filled with surprise as he picked up the call.

"Woo~ Brother, where are you? I... Bao’er is scared."
