Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Why the panic? Am I going to eat you or something?

The photo’s background featured an ancient-style building. Jocelyn Yeager stood beneath the circular archway, gazing tenderly at Delphine Carter, who leaned against the towering fake rock reciting her lines. Their eyes met and they shared a smile, as if the entire world had vanished, leaving only the two of them.

The photo in Ignatius Leclair’s hand was suddenly crumpled into a ball. Raising his eyes, he shouted coldly at Bessie Leclair, "If you keep stirring up trouble all day long, pack your bags and go back to your parents."

This photo was clearly meant for him to see, and the man’s mood sank into gloom.

Bessie Leclair sneered lightly, stomped her foot, and stormed out of the room.

Beatrice Carter shrank her head back at the sight, tiptoeing quietly up to the second floor.

The side hall returned to its previous quiet in an instant — but the silence was eerie, almost unsettling. Ignatius Leclair leaned back against the sofa, his eyes closing slightly, never having felt the Leclair residence so silent before.

Gone to film a drama for just a month, and she already dares to stray from the path? He hadn’t made any decisions yet, but she went ahead and decided for him. The man laughed coldly, his lips carrying an icy aura.

Delphine had been in a very lighthearted mood these days. The filming of this drama was progressing smoothly; barring any surprises, they would wrap up in a month. Though the climate here at the studio city was frigid, it was far from the oppressive influence of Nanyang. Even if some in the crew tried to take advantage of her youth to stir trouble, these petty tricks were insignificant to someone like her, who had long been accustomed to aristocratic feuds.

Delphine lived with a carefree spirit, which brought more smiles to her face. She was calculating that once she received the payment for this drama, the savings would last her a long time — whether she decided to continue wandering or settle down somewhere. Living frugally, it would still be enough.

With such thoughts, the foggy uncertainties that had once shadowed her future seemed just a little clearer.

Exiting the scenic area, Delphine picked up a bouquet of hydrangeas from a flower shop, curling her lips into a faint smile as she headed back to the hotel. Today, for some unknown reason, Jocelyn Yeager hadn’t come, but Delphine didn’t mind. The crew had wrapped early today, giving her the perfect chance to catch up on sleep — she hadn’t been able to recover after two consecutive days of overnight filming.

Stepping into the hotel suite, Delphine placed the hydrangeas on the small table near the entrance. Before she could turn on the lights, her body instantly tensed.

The suite’s curtains were tightly drawn, and the silhouette of a tall, imposing figure stood by the window. The man’s fingers lowered as he lit a cigarette, his handsome features blurred and icy cold.

Ignatius Leclair switched on the lights, his deep voice breaking the silence as he fixed his gaze on Delphine, whose smile had completely faded at the doorway. "Come here."

"What are you doing here?" Delphine’s tone carried a subtle chill as she spoke casually.

Wasn’t he busy flaunting his affection with Melody Cloud in Nanyang every day? And now he suddenly had the time to visit this cold studio city?

"Delphine Carter—" The man’s sharp brows furrowed tightly, and the ashtray before him already contained several cigarette butts.

Ignatius Leclair only smoked when his mood was extraordinarily foul. The man had rushed over from Nanyang and waited several hours; indeed, his temper was in shambles.

Delphine pressed her lips together, unmoved. She knew all too well the inherent flaws in this man’s character. Alone in a room with him now, with their past history, staying too long could spell trouble.

Since Melody Cloud had returned to Nanyang, Ignatius Leclair had uncharacteristically become high-profile, shedding even the last tinge of warmth that had once barely existed. Delphine practically considered him as good as dead.

"What are you afraid of?" the man asked faintly, narrowing his long, phoenix-like eyes as he crushed his cigarette. "Do you think I’m going to eat you alive?"

Seeing his chillingly serious demeanor, Delphine gradually relaxed. She figured that if she ran out the door and provoked him, there was no telling what might happen.

She moved forward with a calm yet detached expression, stopping by the carpet and the table before the sofa. Coldly, she asked, "Why are you here? If it’s about our relationship, you can rest assured — I won’t mention it to anyone. It won’t affect your standing with Miss Cloud Family."
