Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Just Because of Your Niece, Everyday She’s Flirting Left and Right
The Leclair family’s infamous Mr. Leclair had maintained a low profile for years, but ever since the return of Miss Melody Cloud, he suddenly appeared publicly in high-profile events, causing a whirlwind of commotion across the region. Rumors swirled, with many speculating about when the two would announce their relationship and unite their powerful families. The gossip was as heated as it was widespread, creating a lively spectacle.
Meanwhile, on the film set, Jocelyn Yeager began picking up and dropping off Delphine Carter every day, stirring excitement among the crew.
The young, refined gentleman treated everyone with unfailing courtesy. He lavished the set with a steady flow of money: the daily meals, prepared by Michelin chefs, were utterly decadent, and he regularly handed out thoughtful, heartwarming gifts to the crew, ranging from warm coats to fire pits for heating. His sole request was that Delphine never be told who the benefactor was.
Delphine’s two managers noticed Reginald Yeager picking her up daily. Silent as chickens, they didn’t dare utter a single word of objection, fearing they’d upset the young lady. After losing a love, wasn’t she allowed to start anew?
News made its way back to the Leclair estate in the South Pacific just as Ignatius Leclair returned home.
The atmosphere within the estate had been subdued these past days. Ignatius maintained a strict schedule, leaving early and returning late. When he wasn’t attending lavish banquets, he was spending extravagant sums, purchasing auctioned collectibles. Occasionally, he served as a business consultant to advise Miss Melody Cloud, the eldest daughter of the Cloud Family.
Everything seemed normal outwardly, yet Maximilian, his trusted aide, lived in perpetual anxiety, tiptoeing around. After all, anomalies always hinted at incoming storms.
Upon Ignatius’ return, the side hall bustled with commotion. Bessie Leclair, who had only been back for a few days, was in the midst of a heated quarrel with Beatrice Carter.
"Can you even afford this blood-red bird’s nest? You’re nothing but a mistress, living in our house every day and acting like you’re important," Bessie jeered, snatching the bird’s nest that Beatrice had asked the kitchen to prepare and smashing the bowl on the ground.
After the incident with the Wade Family, realizing Ignatius had not shown any sign of reprimanding her, Bessie hurried back from Switzerland. Only then did she discover Reginald Yeager had gone to the film set and was spending time publicly with Delphine Carter. Unable to contain her anger, she vented it all on Beatrice.
But Beatrice, true to her fiery nature, wasn’t one to be trifled with. Outraged, she placed her hands on her hips and retorted, "You act as though this Leclair estate belongs to you! A girl chasing after men day in and day out, yet even the men don’t want you. And now you come here to throw tantrums—what a disgrace!"
"I’ll tear your mouth apart!" Enraged at the insult, Bessie’s eyes flashed red as she lunged at Beatrice with her long nails aimed at her hair. Fury fueling her words, Bessie roared, "A mistress’s niece is still a mistress! All you do is seduce men. My brother dumped you, and now you’re hooking up with my fiancé. You’re all the same filthy trash!"
The two women clashed violently, grabbing at each other’s hair. The servants, perceptive as always, quickly dispersed to avoid the chaos. The elderly steward, experienced and unfazed, chose to turn a blind eye, having grown accustomed to these squabbles.
Ignatius Leclair entered the side hall, his face dark as iron, anger tightly restrained beneath his sharp browline.
Maximilian coughed twice hurriedly, calling out, "Miss Leclair, Miss Carter, stop fighting!"
It took the two women a solid three seconds to register his words and separate. Both were left with bloodied scratches on their faces and missing clumps of hair, leaving neither victorious.
"Your monthly allowance is confiscated," Ignatius announced coldly, sitting on the sofa with a stony expression.
Bessie and Beatrice both gasped in shock. With barely days passed in the month, how were they to survive without their allowances?
"Confiscate it all, fine with me. I still have my stash of private money. And from now on, when you see me, walk the other way. No one in the Leclair family will shield you anymore!" Bessie sneered, tilting her chin arrogantly to rebuke Beatrice.
"Only you have private money? I don’t? And why should I walk the other way when I see you?" Beatrice shot back with newfound resolve, her neck straightened as she held her ground.
"Because your niece is running wild, seducing men and pulling her little schemes on my fiancé. The entire film crew has seen it!" Bessie crowed triumphantly, flinging a stack of photographs out from her bag.
Ignatius’s handsome face grew darker. Reaching for the photos scattered on the sofa, his gaze turned cold, as deep as an icy abyss.
