Chapter 254: Chapter 254: He Just Wanted to Break Up With Her, Ruining Her in This Manner

Jocelyn Yeager’s smile stiffened slightly as he hurriedly stuffed the warm items into the luggage bag, his voice tinged with unease. "I’m sorry, I’ll never buy these again."

Delphine nodded, glancing at the frost-laden scenic area, and said, "I know you mean well, but I don’t like the feeling of the top of the food chain arbitrarily deciding the life and death of the bottom."

Whether it was an unexpected encounter in the Imperial City or a chance meeting during filming at the movie studio, as long as they were outside the reach of the South Islands’ influence, Jocelyn Yeager would always find a way to "coincidentally" cross paths with her. His status was no longer as awkward as it had been in their youth; now he was one of the South Islands’ admired Four Young Lords. Yet in front of her, Jocelyn Yeager seemed to forever retain the gentleness of the boy he had once been.

The two walked along the winding corridors of the scenic area. Occasionally, they would encounter a few fans who suppressed their excitement, approached for autographs, and then ran off joyfully.

Delphine was already familiar with it all. Seeing how adept she was at handling such situations, Jocelyn Yeager smiled wistfully. "You were so quiet as a child, like a little girl arranging flowers in an oil painting. I never thought you’d grow up to choose such a highly visible career."

Delphine curved her lips into a smile. "I never thought so either."

"Delphine?" Jocelyn Yeager stopped walking.

"Hmm?" She subtly raised her eyes, only to see him take off the black scarf from around his neck and carefully wrap it around her.

The soft knitted scarf carried his warmth along with a grassy scent that was both foreign and familiar.

"It’s cold. Don’t let yourself freeze." Jocelyn Yeager lowered his gaze and murmured softly. The two stood so close that when Delphine lifted her eyes, she could see her reflection in his brown pupils. Not accustomed to such proximity with the opposite sex, she intended to step back, but Jocelyn Yeager had already taken a step back himself. The tranquil elegance and warmth etched into his refined features kept their interaction at the perfect and safe distance.

He always managed to maintain the ideal degree of separation.

Jocelyn Yeager escorted her all the way back to the hotel before leaving.

Kyla Zamora came out to meet her and, upon seeing that the young lady had been sent back by Reginald Yeager, first showed a hint of surprise, then followed up with a trace of delight. Nervously, she asked, "Delphine, why is Reginald Yeager here? If anyone happens to see it and starts writing nonsense, what then?"

Recalling the troublesome rumors and gossip from the South Islands, Kyla Zamora couldn’t help but feel conflicted. On one hand, she felt it was better for little Delphine to keep her distance from Reginald Yeager; on the other hand, she acknowledged that Reginald Yeager was one of the rare, self-disciplined and outstanding men in the South Islands—having someone like him care for Delphine wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. After all, when it came to Mr. Li... Ah.

"He was just passing by and came to check on me." Delphine saw her hesitating and mixed emotions—regret and the unspoken worries evident. Her lips curved into a faint smile, but she didn’t elaborate. The affairs of the South Islands, despite Kyla Zamora and Jason working hard to keep them hidden from her, were something she had already known about. Leah, concerned that she might not believe, had even gone as far as to have all the recent magazines, newspapers, and celebrity profiles collected and sent to her via air freight.

"Passing by. Just passing by." Kyla Zamora breathed a sigh of relief, then followed Delphine into the suite. She was about to say something, but her gaze fell on a stack of magazines on the sofa, and her expression immediately changed, stammering in speechlessness.

The pile of magazines and tabloids were filled with reports detailing the South Islands’ Crown Prince accompanying the premier socialite on outings, the close ties between their families, and even predictions of an imminent wedding date.

Delphine followed her gaze, realized she’d forgotten to put them away, and offered a soft laugh tinged with sarcasm. "I’ll take a nap first. Call me when it’s time for dinner."

"Alright." Kyla Zamora’s voice softened considerably, as though she’d turned into a puppet on strings, leaving the room as if in a daze.

Delphine turned on the floor heating, removed her coat, and leaned against the sofa. She idly picked up one of the magazines, her gaze falling on the man’s cold and chiseled side profile. Her lips curled into a faint, icy smile.

If the tabloid coverage in England months ago was an accident, the South Islands’ orchestrated public opinion was now clearly within his grasp. His uncharacteristic high-profile demeanor and the supposedly close relationship with Miss Melody Cloud were nothing more than his attempt to wear out her patience and sever their ties without saying so outright—using this method to demean her.

All of it, the signs had already appeared before she came to film at the movie studio. Men, truly, were heartlessly indifferent to the extreme.
