Chapter 96: Chapter 96 Her Fondness Has Always Been Pure
Zhou Lin acted as if he hadn’t heard Cheng Zhiwei’s refusal at all and continued, "Whatever you need, I’ll take you there."
A hint of irony flashed in Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes, and her voice was faint, "Zhou Lin, when I recited scriptures for you, it was because I liked you and I did it willingly; so rest assured, I won’t use that to ask you for anything."
Her affection had always been nothing but pure.
She went to the temple to ask for scriptures on his behalf and locked herself at home, bathing and burning incense daily as she recited those scriptures until her voice was nearly gone, all in the hope that he would be free from the affliction of evil spirits and regain his health.
Looking back, that was merely her own wishful thinking, after all, it wasn’t like he had really been troubled by evil spirits; it was merely the aftermath of being kidnapped and tormented.
She had never mentioned that incident, and this was the reason why.
Confronting her sarcasm, Zhou Lin found it extremely glaring; Cheng Zhiwei had not slept all night, and neither had he.
He tossed and turned, thinking about what happened in the hotel back then—no surveillance footage could be found, and no one could say for sure how they ended up in the same bed.
Was it really Cheng Zhiwei?
But emotions are the easiest to cloud one’s judgment, and it wasn’t impossible for Cheng Zhiwei to have been confused for a moment.
Yet the firmly believed truth now faced a crack—could the girl who recited scriptures for him really have done such a thing?
"Cheng Zhiwei, I simply want to take you to get your body treated, you’re thinking too much," Zhou Lin said with an unchanged tone.
Cheng Zhiwei just curled her lips into a sarcastic smile, "Young President Zhou has free time, he’d better spend more of it on his little lover."
Having said that, she walked out the door.
Hospital.
Cheng Zhiwei was visiting Cheng Zhiyin, and Gao Wei was there too, tenderly feeding Cheng Zhiyin porridge.
Seeing Cheng Zhiwei, he immediately gave up his spot and went to the other side, continuing to feed Cheng Zhiyin porridge with a very gentle tone, "Be careful, it’s hot."
Cheng Zhiyin felt somewhat embarrassed to display such affection in front of her sister, "I can do it myself. Don’t you have work? Please go."
Gao Wei wouldn’t let her touch the bowl, insisting on feeding her himself, "Work isn’t as important as my dear wife. The doctor asked you to rest in bed more, so don’t move. Just rest well. Come on, open up."
Cheng Zhiwei watched without saying a word.
If Gao Wei wanted to perform, she would simply watch him.
Halfway through the porridge, Gao Wei’s phone rang incessantly.
Cheng Zhiyin urged him to answer the call to avoid work delays.
Only then did Gao Wei put down the bowl, glanced at his phone, and complained intentionally, "The new hires at the school are so useless. They call me over every little thing. I’ll go deal with this. Zhiyin, you rest well; I’ll be back soon."
Saying this, he hurried out.
Cheng Zhiwei had a feeling that the call might have been from that woman at the bar, unsure if she had made a decision.
"Zhiwei, what are you thinking about?" Cheng Zhiyin noticed Cheng Zhiwei’s somber expression and quickly asked, "Is there something wrong with Mom?"
Cheng Zhiwei shook her head, pondered for a few seconds, and tentatively asked, "Sis, is there a chance for your husband to be promoted?"
Cheng Zhiyin, thrilled, took her hand and nodded, "There is such news, but it has not been officially confirmed. I was going to tell you about it in a while, but you found out first."
It wasn’t that Cheng Zhiwei had found out first, but rather Guo Cuihua had found out and mentioned it to her. Guo Cuihua was very happy, saying that Cheng Zhiyin finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and good days were coming. If there was a way to live separately from her mother-in-law, life would be much easier from then on.
Cheng Zhiwei knew the news only to feel a heaviness in her heart.
Gao Wei was to transfer, and for both his career and personal life, no blemishes could be tolerated. Yet, he also wanted a divorce, which meant that the impact of the divorce would undoubtedly be borne by Cheng Zhiyin. It wasn’t good times coming her way, but rather a nightmare.
"My brother-in-law’s rank is getting higher, and who knows how many women will be circling around him in the future," Cheng Zhiwei hinted with intended meaning.
Cheng Zhiyin’s expression subtly changed; after all, she had personally caught him once, and in his shameful rage, Gao Wei had domestically abused her. Thinking about it now, she still felt terrified.
Yes, the higher Gao Wei’s position, the more indulgent he would become.
Thankfully, there was now a child.
Thinking of the child, Cheng Zhiyin smiled with slight relief. "He values this child greatly. Surely, he will settle down and become a good father. Besides, the higher his position, the more people will be monitoring him. He wouldn’t dare to mess around," she said.
Cheng Zhiyin had a blind confidence.
Yet, this also made Cheng Zhiwei’s heart sink. From her sister’s words, it seemed that even if Gao Wei continued his affairs and was caught, she would forgive him for the sake of the child and let him take that position.
She believed Gao Wei would mend his ways.
There was a kind of blind foolishness in that belief.
Fortunately, she had already found that woman and could help Cheng Zhiyin in advance. If Gao Wei truly turned back from his wrong path and took care of his family, she would not expose the affair. With leverage over Gao Wei, she trusted that he wouldn’t dare to mistreat Cheng Zhiyin anymore.
With that thought, Cheng Zhiwei felt a weight lift from her heart and asked Cheng Zhiyin about the child’s condition.
After an examination, it was found that the child was fine and could be discharged from the hospital in about a week.
"Zhiwei, you don’t need to come here every day. You and Zhou Lin should also have a child. With a child, Zhou Lin will settle down," urged Cheng Zhiyin, believing that a child was the culmination of love and an important link to maintain a family.
A child?
A faint bitterness crept into Cheng Zhiwei’s mind, for how could she possibly have a child with Zhou Lin.
She wouldn’t have his child.
Gao Wei hadn’t returned, and it was only after Cheng Zhiyin called him that he told her he had gone back because he was busy and had forgotten to tell her.
Cheng Zhiyin always maintained an understanding attitude.
About an hour later, Zhou Lin arrived.
He placed the nutritional supplements he bought aside, asking Cheng Zhiyin if she would like to transfer to another hospital where the maternity department was the best in Yucheng, offering the most comprehensive examination for her.
Cheng Zhiyin shook her head, refusing. She knew why Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin got married and also knew that their relationship was just average, so she tried not to bother Zhou Lin, not wanting to put Cheng Zhiwei in a difficult position.
It was already quite extraordinary for Zhou Lin to visit her.
"Then you rest, sister. I’ll take Zhiwei for a check-up," Zhou Lin said with grace and patience.
"What’s wrong with Zhiwei?" Cheng Zhiyin quickly asked. "She looks a bit haggard."
"It’s just some insomnia, not a big deal. Don’t worry," Cheng Zhiwei explained, standing up to leave.
She didn’t want Zhou Lin to stay there because she was afraid he might take an interest in Cheng Zhiyin.
"Then go quickly," Cheng Zhiyin urged.
Upon leaving the hospital, Cheng Zhiwei stood in front of the car, finally allowing her emotions to fluctuate, and spoke with a cold tone, "Zhou Lin, what are you trying to do? My sister’s child wasn’t easy to come by. Don’t you touch her."
