Chapter 464: Are You Trying to Kill Her?
Chapter 464: Chapter 464: Are You Trying to Kill Her?
"You..." Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know what to say for a moment.
If Cheng Xing had gotten out of the bodyguard’s sight on her own, it wouldn’t be Zhou Lin’s fault.
But how could such a smart child like Cheng Xing be so easily deceived?
Just as she was thinking, Zhou Chenyan came in, and the look he gave Cheng Xing was full of surprise.
Seeing Cheng Xing’s little face, the girl in the white dress from over twenty years ago seemed to come back to life, and he couldn’t help but reach out to hold Cheng Xing in his arms.
"Mommy." Cheng Xing clung to Cheng Zhiwei’s arm, fearfully shrinking back.
Zhou Chenyan, who was usually harsh, couldn’t help but be a bit more patient.
He didn’t rashly go to hold Cheng Xing but simply ordered the nanny, "Apply medicine to her."
The nanny hurriedly went to get the ointment.
The door closed.
Cheng Xing obediently stood aside, watching the nanny apply medicine to Cheng Zhiwei, her eyes red and her lips pursed.
"Mommy, boo-hoo." She blinked, sobbing.
Cheng Zhiwei, sweating profusely with pain, still bit her lip and forced a smile to reassure her, "Mommy’s not hurting, Xingxing be good."
After the medicine was applied, the pain on her back eased a bit.
Cheng Zhiwei was about to ask carefully when a bodyguard came in and instructed her to go to the living room with Cheng Xing.
This was a small two-story building surrounded by a lawn, and beyond that, a dense forest; these past few days Cheng Zhiwei had been paying attention and surmising that Zhou Chenyan might spend most of his time here.
It was his secret residence.
This undoubtedly made it harder for Zhou Lin to find them.
While she was thinking this, Zhou Chenyan was pushed out by the bodyguards. After tidying the second floor, apart from the nanny who took care of Cheng Zhiwei, there were only men, and they were all male bodyguards, showing how much Zhou Chenyan valued his own safety.
Zhou Chenyan’s gaze stayed on Cheng Xing, who afraidly hid by Cheng Zhiwei’s side and timidly met his gaze.
Zhou Chenyan glanced at the bodyguard, who handed over a doll. Zhou Chenyan’s face squeezed out an ugly smile, "Xingxing, come to grandpa."
Cheng Xing tightly held Cheng Zhiwei’s hand, refusing to go over.
Zhou Chenyan tried several different toys, but none could attract Cheng Xing’s attention.
He wasn’t a patient man and immediately ordered the bodyguards to carry Cheng Xing over.
Cheng Zhiwei wouldn’t allow it; she was pushed to the ground, and the wounds on her back throbbed painfully.
Cheng Xing seemed to know she was in danger and started crying and screaming, flailing her little arms and legs as the bodyguard emotionlessly restrained her.
A ring of bruises formed on her arm.
"Zhou Chenyan, she is only three years old, do you want the bodyguard to break her arm?" Cheng Zhiwei cried out in fear.
The sound of Cheng Xing’s crying heavily pummeled her heart, tormenting her.
Zhou Chenyan frowned, took Cheng Xing in his arms, and gave the bodyguard a cold look; the bodyguard immediately cowered.
"Be good, Xingxing, grandpa just wants to hold you." Zhou Chenyan had never been this patient in his life.
Looking at the face that resembled the one from his memories, his rare patience emerged, "Be a little obedient, Xingxing, and grandpa will give you anything you want."
The indulgent tone made Cheng Zhiwei feel nauseous.
But she dared not make any sudden moves and could only watch anxiously.
"I want mommy." Cheng Xing cried out loud, heart-wrenching, "I want mommy..."
Her little face turned bright red with crying, and she struggled constantly.
Zhou Chenyan, however, paid no mind and directly took her away.
Cheng Zhiwei tried to follow, but the bodyguard forcefully twisted her arm and sent her back to the room, closing the door coldly.
Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the ground.
Her Xingxing.
But it wasn’t long before she and Cheng Xing were separated, Zhou Chenyan’s bodyguard took her to another room.
A pink princess room, it was clearly prepared temporarily, yet it had everything that was needed.
Cheng Xing lay on the small bed, groaning uncomfortably.
She had a fever.
Cheng Zhiwei felt as if a knife was twisting in her heart, tears of pain falling as she cried, "Xingxing, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it’s all mommy’s fault."
She couldn’t care about anything else, turning around she stared hatefully at Zhou Chenyan, "Do you want to kill her?"
Zhou Chenyan didn’t pay attention to her, only asking the doctor, "How did she suddenly get a fever?"
He was a suspicious person.
"That’s because she was scared by you," Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help yelling at Zhou Chenyan, tears streaming down her face, hating herself for not protecting Cheng Xing properly.
In pain she said, "If you really cared about her, you would know how difficult it was for me when I gave birth to her. Her health has always been poor, the slightest thing can make her run a fever."
Zhou Chenyan’s expression was as still as water.
Actually, on second thought, what harm could a three-year-old child do? Moreover, a fever isn’t something one can control.
The doctor also said, "The child indeed got a fever from being frightened, it’s better if possible, to keep her in a pleasant mood."
"Mommy," Cheng Xing, delirious from the fever, burrowed into Cheng Zhiwei’s arms, "I want to take a bath."
"What?" Cheng Zhiwei didn’t hear clearly at first.
Cheng Xing, mustering her strength, said softly, "Want a bath, mommy."
Zhou Chenyan was clearly unwilling.
The doctor, who had finished examining Cheng Xing, mentioned from the side, "A bath would indeed make her more comfortable, and after that, I can give her an injection."
Only then did Zhou Chenyan nod in agreement.
He had a nanny prepare to bathe Cheng Xing, but she, originally groggy, upon hearing this, immediately started to throw a tantrum, refusing and crying for Cheng Zhiwei.
The doctor quickly said, "She can’t cry anymore, otherwise it could easily lead to convulsions."
Zhou Chenyan could only compromise, allowing Cheng Zhiwei to go as well.
He didn’t trust Cheng Zhiwei to be alone with Cheng Xing, fearing Cheng Zhiwei might incite Cheng Xing to do something.
He also had intentions of removing Cheng Zhiwei from Cheng Xing’s life.
In fact, if it weren’t for Cheng Xing’s sudden fever, he would have already taken Cheng Xing away by now.
But the child was too delicate.
In the bathroom, whenever the nanny touched Cheng Xing, she would burst into tears and make a fuss, leaving the nanny no choice but to stand aside and watch.
With red eyes, Cheng Zhiwei gently bathed Cheng Xing, letting her soak a bit longer in the warm water.
"Mommy, I’m hungry," Cheng Xing touched her little belly and said pitifully.
"After your bath, mommy will find you something to eat," Cheng Zhiwei touched her hair soothingly.
"I’m really hungry," Cheng Xing smacked her lips, starting to cry, "I want cake."
"You can’t eat cake when you have a fever, Xingxing."
"I want it."
Cheng Xing tilted her little face upward, tears streaming down one by one, her hands powerfully slapping the water as she cried out loud.
A tantrum like never before.
If it had been any other time, Cheng Zhiwei would have scolded her already, but now, even if she were in pain, she would use all her strength to appease her.
Because she didn’t know how to escape with Cheng Xing yet, and if they couldn’t escape, what kind of things would Cheng Xing have to face?
Bearing the heartache and pain, she comforted her again and again, "Be good, Xingxing, let mommy wash you first, okay?"
"Don’t wanna, don’t wanna."
Cheng Xing’s crying was heartbreaking, making the nanny hesitate before saying, "Miss Cheng, you wash her, I’ll go get something for her to eat?"
