Chapter 465: Chapter 465: Dad Sent Me
Cheng Zhiwei hurriedly said, "Thank you."
The nanny nodded and carried Cheng Xing’s clothes out.
Only then did Cheng Xing quiet down.
Outside, the nanny explained her reason for coming out and handed the clothes to the bodyguard, "These are her clothes; I checked, there’s nothing hidden."
The bodyguard scanned the clothes inch by inch with a device and nodded at Zhou Chenyan.
Another bodyguard said, "I have arranged for people to monitor all the surveillance; so far, nothing abnormal has occurred."
Only then did Zhou Chenyan let the nanny go to prepare food for Cheng Xing.
The bodyguard glanced at the bathroom door; he couldn’t see the mother and daughter inside, but that didn’t stop him from guessing, "It’s just a three-year-old child. Aren’t you worrying too much?"
Still at an innocent age, besides throwing tantrums and being unreasonable, there’s not much use.
Zhou Chenyan rubbed his temples, feeling that he was indeed overthinking. After all, Cheng Xing was someone he had tricked away; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to get close to her.
At this thought, Zhou Chenyan’s brows furrowed with a hint of frost. Zhou Lin had truly surprised him.
He had thought him to be useless trash, but it turned out he was quite capable, having sensed something wrong early on and thus perfectly disengaging from the Zhou Family, and even preparing for the worst, developing his power in secret.
However, all those little tricks were ones he had discarded. Now, with just a Cheng Zhiwei, he had lured out all his power.
But losing a decoy was worth it.
"Keep an eye on Zhou Lin’s movements," Zhou Chenyan commanded coldly, "Let him focus all his energy on Meng Qiancheng."
They must both suffer.
"Yes."
In the bathroom.
Cheng Xing calmed down, carefully watching Cheng Zhiwei’s expression, afraid she might get angry.
She softly apologized, "Mommy, I’m sorry."
She apologized for her previous unreasonable behavior.
Cheng Zhiwei knelt down, kissed Cheng Xing’s forehead, lifted her out of the water, and whispered, "Mommy isn’t angry."
Cheng Xing clung to her neck, showing extra dependence on her.
She quickly whispered into her ear, "Daddy sent me here. "
Cheng Zhiwei was startled, almost dropping her, and exclaimed in a very low voice, "He sent you?"
What was Zhou Lin doing?
How could he let Cheng Xing take risks...
"Daddy said only I could find Mommy," Cheng Xing stated firmly, appearing nothing like the unruly child she was just moments ago.
She seemed like a little adult.
Reassuring.
Cheng Zhiwei immediately heard something different in those words. Zhou Lin must know she was with Zhou Chenyan.
And that Zhou Chenyan wanted Cheng Xing.
But the place was so remote, how would Zhou Lin find them?
As if knowing her thoughts, Cheng Xing placed her wet hand on Cheng Zhiwei’s face, "Mommy, don’t worry."
She patted her stomach, "Daddy will find us."
Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t crush her child’s hope and could only respond, "That’s right, Daddy will find us."
She believed Zhou Lin had a way.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sent Cheng Xing.
But she wished Zhou Lin would come sooner; she didn’t want Cheng Xing to be taken away by Zhou Chenyan.
After wrapping Cheng Xing in a towel, Cheng Zhiwei stepped out and demanded coldly from Zhou Chenyan, "I want the child’s clothes."
"They are in the wardrobe," the bodyguard reminded.
Cheng Zhiwei found pyjamas and dressed Cheng Xing in the bathroom.
The nanny came in with noodles, and Cheng Xing reluctantly ate a few bites before refusing to eat more.
The doctor administered an injection, and soon she fell asleep.
Her fingers still tightly clutched Cheng Zhiwei.
Zhou Chenyan glared coldly at Cheng Zhiwei and then left.
"Arrange for departure first thing tomorrow morning," Zhou Chenyan, ever cautious, wouldn’t stay in one place for too long, especially since there had been quite a few strangers around lately.
"Do we need to take Cheng Zhiwei along?" the bodyguard asked.
Zhou Chenyan’s lips curled into a cruel smile, "She will grow up by my side, no need for such a weakness."
Meaning, this time when he leaves, he will only regret taking Cheng Xing.
The bodyguard hesitated, "You mean...What if Cheng Xing keeps having fevers and crying..."
"There are plenty of doctors over there who can treat her," Zhou Chenyan wouldn’t allow Cheng Xing to keep depending on Cheng Zhiwei, so tonight was their last little bit of time together.
Once he got Cheng Xing to the other side, she would slowly forget Cheng Zhiwei, forget everything here.
She would belong entirely to him, Zhou Chenyan.
"I understand."
"Once everything is handled, deliver her to Zhou Lin."
"Yes."
...
Cheng Zhiwei, her eyes closed, dozed briefly before her back pain woke her; she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep again.
She touched Cheng Xing’s forehead, only to find her fever had worsened, more severe than before.
Wide awake with worry, she hurried to find the doctor, asking what should be done.
The doctor took Cheng Xing’s temperature, shocked, "Why is her fever so severe?"
"What should we do, Doctor?" Cheng Zhiwei was frantic.
The doctor examined her and said, "She must be taken to the hospital immediately."
Zhou Chenyan, hearing these words, looked displeased; he had planned to take Cheng Xing away early in the morning.
The doctor added, "If her fever doesn’t go down and her body temperature keeps rising, delaying any further could be fatal."
Before he had finished speaking, there was a loud "bang."
The doctor’s body crashed onto the floor, a dark hole in the middle of his forehead, blood oozing out.
The bodyguard expressionlessly holstered his gun.
Zhou Chenyan cursed disdainfully, "Useless."
A fever he couldn’t cure was just a waste of air.
Cheng Zhiwei’s face turned ashen; she felt the closeness of death.
Fist clenched, she seethed, "You killed him. What about Xingxing’s illness?"
Cheng Xing’s high fever left her face pale white.
She wasn’t sweating, and her temperature was still climbing.
Zhou Chenyan gestured for the bodyguard to pick up Cheng Xing. He wanted Cheng Xing but wouldn’t risk her health, so he chose to leave with her now. As for her illness, it was up to her fate.
Cheng Zhiwei’s worst fears were coming true.
She rushed up to block the bodyguard, gritting her teeth, "Where are you taking her?"
The bodyguard pushed her away, but how could Cheng Zhiwei stand by and watch them take Cheng Xing? She lunged again, guarding the door.
"You can’t take her away."
Zhou Chenyan, annoyed, ordered the bodyguard to pull Cheng Zhiwei away.
The bodyguard was too rough, and Cheng Zhiwei’s forehead hit the wall hard.
The sound was loud.
Zhou Chenyan, without turning his head, walked away carrying Cheng Xing.
"Zhou Chenyan!" Cheng Zhiwei screamed heart-wrenchingly, wanting to follow.
But the bodyguard twisted her hands behind her back.
Cheng Zhiwei was panicking inside, but thinking of Cheng Xing, she bit down and seized the chance to dash out.
"No offense, Miss Cheng," the bodyguard raised his gun, pressed it against her forehead.
