Chapter 410: Chapter 410 Marriage Requires Loyalty

Wen Yongan stopped talking, feeling that Cheng Zhiwei was simply being unreasonable, utterly selfish.

The vast Zhou Family fortune—if it fell into decline under Zhou Lin’s watch, how many people would look down on him for the rest of his life?

"Cheng Zhiwei, I’m not joking with you, nor am I looking down on you," he paused, then continued, "Everyone says he was particularly cruel to you at first. I assume your feelings for him aren’t as deep as you believe. You’re just exploiting his guilt."

Those were harsh words.

Yet Cheng Zhiwei just sneered, "So what if I am exploiting his guilt? Isn’t he willing?"

Wen Yongan was struck dumb, speechless that Cheng Zhiwei had just admitted to this so nonchalantly.

Wasn’t she afraid he would tell Zhou Lin?

Not sure what came to mind, Wen Yongan fell silent for a while before saying, "Even if you don’t think for yourself, you should think for your child, right?"

But Cheng Zhiwei instead asked, "Mr. Wen, do you really think this collaboration between the two families is entirely beneficial?"

Wen Yongan frowned, "Of course?"

"Then, Mr. Wen, do you think He Mingzhu really is such a fine girl?"

"Naturally." Wen Yongan replied bluntly.

He countered, "I know you have issues with Mingzhu because of these matters, but Mingzhu is also someone I watched grow up, I understand her, she has no malicious intentions."

Cheng Zhiwei understood, in their eyes, He Mingzhu was excellent.

Of course, everyone naturally showed their kindest side in front of their elders. He Mingzhu’s venom was targeted only at outsiders.

"So, Mr. Wen, I don’t think there’s any need for us to continue this conversation. She, He Mingzhu, desires the position of Young Madam Zhou, but I just won’t allow it," Cheng Zhiwei stood up, her voice cold, "Please leave."

Wen Yongan was a dignified man, receiving a dismissal from someone so much younger was hard for him to maintain his composed demeanor.

"My daughter Wen Yi thought you, Cheng Zhiwei, were sensible. In my view, she overestimated you," Wen Yongan’s tone was unfriendly.

Cheng Zhiwei’s affair with He Ye wasn’t a secret, and Wen Yongan knew about it; at the time, he worried it would upset Wen Yi, so he talked to her.

Unexpectedly, Wen Yi had a good impression of Cheng Zhiwei, even treating her like a sister.

Yet Cheng Zhiwei coldly spat out two words again, "Please leave."

The atmosphere immediately grew tense.

Wen Yongan was so angry he was about to storm off.

"Uncle Wen, why didn’t you tell me you were coming?" Zhou Lin’s calm voice approached.

He walked over to Cheng Zhiwei, touched her hand, gently said, "Your hand is so cold, is the wound still bothering you? Go and rest."

Cheng Zhiwei nodded and left.

Zhou Lin looked at Wen Yongan, his expression could hardly be considered pleasant, just bare politeness.

"Uncle Wen, Zhiwei is still injured. With all of you coming to her one after the other, is there any caring heart left in you, as elders should have for their juniors?"

His question was indifferent, his stance very firm.

Their continued visits to Cheng Zhiwei ultimately touched his bottom line.

Wen Yongan sighed, "My apologies, I wasn’t considerate. Ah Lin, but Cheng Zhiwei herself admitted to exploiting your guilt. You should still be cautious."

"I know, and I’m willing."

Wen Yongan was instantly at a loss for words.

"Uncle Wen, I know you were once close with Uncle He, but you’ve been away for so many years. People’s hearts can change; the person now may not be the same as before."

Zhou Lin’s reminder was subtle, whether Wen Yongan understood or not was not his concern.

But if Wen Yongan was not a fool, he would surely catch the hint.

"Ah Lin, what did He Rongwei do to you?" Wen Yongan asked.

"Just delaying some critical matters from being resolved," Zhou Lin scoffed, "Maybe they feel the cooperation is more in Zhou Group’s favor, as everything is interconnected, so they think they can do as they please."

Wen Yongan frowned, "I told him, you can’t joke about the project."

"Uncle Wen, Zhiwei’s and my matters are our own, please don’t interfere," Zhou Lin bluntly stated.

"He Rongwei cares for Mingzhu as if she’s the apple of his eye. Mingzhu is fond of you, and if you don’t agree, he won’t let Zhiwei off," Wen Yongan wasn’t entirely on He Mingzhu’s side.

Zhou Lin’s mouth twitched imperceptibly; even if she agreed, they wouldn’t let Zhiwei off.

"Thank you for your kindness, Uncle Wen."

Ultimately, Wen Yongan wasn’t in the mood to stay for dinner and quickly left.

Zhou Lin went to the master bedroom, and Cheng Zhiwei was standing by the window watching Wen Yongan’s car leave.

He embraced her from behind, chin resting on her shoulder. Lately, he loved this movement because only then could he be filled with her presence.

It gave him a sense of realness, that she still belonged to him.

"It seems the whole world is against us being together," Cheng Zhiwei said half-seriously, half-jokingly, "President Zhou, what do you think?"

"We’ve been married twice and haven’t spent a honeymoon yet," Zhou Lin kissed her cheek, "Shall we go?"

"Sure," Cheng Zhiwei agreed.

Zhou Lin released her and called Secretary Zhang to book plane tickets. They didn’t go far, just to a neighboring province with beautiful scenery suitable for a summer retreat.

On a cloudless summer night, the stars twinkled brightly against the sky, with the moon casting its gentle silver glow.

On the country road, the sounds of various insects echoed from the fields on both sides.

It was especially peaceful, bringing comfort to one’s heart.

Cheng Zhiwei, her hand held by Zhou Lin, strolled leisurely.

They had been there for three days now, and Zhou Lin’s phone had been off the entire time, without any disturbance.

Like the most ordinary couple, they spent those three simple days.

"It’s truly relaxing," Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but sigh—the night breeze carried a hint of coolness, caressing the face, especially refreshing.

Zhou Lin held her fingers, "I wish we could just keep walking like this forever."

They exchanged glances, both seeing determination in each other’s eyes.

Some things, when the atmosphere is right, need to be done.

"Keep walking forever?" Cheng Zhiwei suddenly scoffed coldly, "Zhou Lin, if you want to keep walking, go find He Mingzhu."

"At this time, why are you making a scene?" Zhou Lin let go of her hand, and the warm atmosphere between them vanished, becoming tense.

Cheng Zhiwei suddenly raised her voice, "Am I making a scene? Zhou Lin, have you not seen online how many people want you two together, what am I then?"

Her eyes reddening, "What do you consider me?"

She burst into hysteria, "Before there was Seo Zhenzhen, now there’s He Mingzhu. Zhou Lin, when will you understand that marriage requires loyalty?"

"There’s nothing between us; you’re just being too sensitive," Zhou Lin frowned, "Cheng Zhiwei, stop it."
