Chapter 411 She Changed
Chapter 411: Chapter 411 She Changed
The sudden outburst of argument had ended as quickly as it began, but the relationship between the two was no longer as intimate as before.
In the following two days, the couple would frequently engage in disputes.
Even after yet another intense quarrel, Cheng Zhiwei packed her things and left.
She went back to Yucheng alone.
He Mingzhu invited her to meet, reveling in her misery as she ridiculed, "I heard you’ve been arguing a lot lately?"
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t give her a friendly face. "What’s that got to do with you?"
He Mingzhu frowned, slightly shocked by the sudden temper of Cheng Zhiwei.
She had changed.
Was it because she discovered that Zhou Lin hadn’t ended their business cooperation as she had expected, or because he hadn’t taken any action against her?
Was that why she was so angry?
He Mingzhu wasn’t someone who would gloat over such a trivial matter. She set down her cup, composedly saying, "Cheng Zhiwei, I’m just concerned about how you’re doing. There’s no need to be so suspicious."
Cheng Zhiwei splashed a cup of coffee in her face, loudly stating, "I’ll tell you, all you’ll ever be is a mistress."
Her voice was loud, attracting curious glances from the other cafe patrons.
He Mingzhu was utterly humiliated.
Before she could speak, Cheng Zhiwei added, "He Mingzhu, I will never divorce him."
Her statement was decisive as she indifferently walked away.
He Mingzhu was left behind, seething to the point of almost flipping the table.
Some busybody in the cafe had secretly filmed the incident and titled the video with an eye-catching name, alleging a fight between the wife and the mistress, causing quite a stir online.
However, the incident only fermented briefly before dying down without further noise.
But it was still enough to make He Mingzhu, the miss who cared most about face, suffer a setback.
He Rongwei called Zhou Lin, rebuking him for failing to control Cheng Zhiwei and allowing He Mingzhu to lose face. His pampered daughter had never endured such an insult before.
Then he pressured Zhou Lin either to end the cooperation or to divorce Cheng Zhiwei.
Naturally, Zhou Lin was unwilling, so the consequence of this situation was that Zhou Lin made additional concessions in the business project.
He Rongwei also sent He Ye to deal with the matter.
When the four of them sat face-to-face, the atmosphere was so awkward that no one spoke first.
Cheng Zhiwei hadn’t seen He Ye in a long time and noticed that he had lost weight, but he seemed more spirited, his previously gentle and jade-like demeanor now cold and sharp.
He Mingzhu took a sip of water and casually started, "Xiao Ye, it’s been a long time since you’ve seen Zhiwei, hasn’t it?"
Cheng Zhiwei choked out, "He Mingzhu, aren’t you disgusting?"
He Mingzhu’s composed smile faltered, "Cheng Zhiwei, what’s gotten into you now?"
Cheng Zhiwei sneered at her, "I haven’t seen him in a long time, so what? What’s it to you?"
"Enough," Zhou Lin frowned and scolded displeasure, "How much longer are you going to carry on?"
He Mingzhu feigned innocence, "I merely mentioned it. Why such a big reaction?"
She paused and glanced at Zhou Lin, speaking with some helplessness, "Cheng Zhiwei, our families are in a business partnership. Ah Lin and I have to be together for various matters. If you keep making a fuss, it will significantly impact our project."
"Making a fuss?" Cheng Zhiwei sneered coldly, "You incited Qiqi to do that, and you still have the nerve to talk to me about making a fuss. You used a three-year-old child as a pawn; you’re truly vicious."
"Do you have any evidence?" He Mingzhu asked, raising her chin.
Cheng Zhiwei had no evidence, so she cast a direct stare at Zhou Lin, then decisively grabbed her bag and left.
He Ye followed her out.
At this, Zhou Lin’s face grew even darker.
He Mingzhu was extremely pleased, having warned He Ye before coming here to pay more attention to Cheng Zhiwei, not expecting He Ye to be so compliant.
"Ah Lin, I’ve already talked to Dad about the concession in the cooperation. He’s just angry and didn’t actually want you to give in. Don’t take it to heart," He Mingzhu gently cooed, her lips curving slightly upward.
Today, she had deliberately applied a light makeup, which made her appear more tender and amiable compared to her previously bold image.
"It’s just that there’s a big misunderstanding with Cheng Zhiwei about me. You still have to clarify things with her, after all, both our families have invested so much in the project. Only if it’s successful can we maximize our benefits."
He Mingzhu appeared to be genuinely concerned for Zhou Lin’s well-being, "If she continues to cause drama, making people think there’s actually a scandal between us, it will be difficult to answer to our superiors."
Zhou Lin’s dark eyes glinted with an inscrutable light, his expressionless face, and fingers absently caressing the water glass, seemingly furious to the core.
"Ah Lin?" He Mingzhu cautiously called out again.
She tightened her grip on the glass, hesitating to speak.
"Hmm?"
"I know you really like Cheng Zhiwei and can’t bear for her to misunderstand your relationship, but it’s not good for her to keep making scenes like this. Perhaps we should come to an arrangement."
"An arrangement?"
He Mingzhu restrained the excitement threatening to burst from within, slowly and deliberately saying, "Let’s pretend to enter into a marriage alliance, and once the project is over, so will our relationship. It’s just a matter of inconveniencing her for a year or so."
"No way," Zhou Lin refused without a second thought.
"I know you’re afraid she’ll misunderstand," He Mingzhu shrugged, helplessly saying, "But right now, there’s no better option. Everyone is watching this project, and if anything goes wrong, no one can take the responsibility."
Zhou Lin rubbed his temples, "I’ll persuade her."
He Mingzhu knew when to back off and softly replied, "Okay, then I’ll wait for your good news. And I don’t want her showing up in front of me again."
"Don’t worry."
"Then let’s go."
The two of them headed to the parking lot and encountered Cheng Zhiwei there, in tears, and He Ye comforting her.
He Ye didn’t know what to say in a low voice, but Cheng Zhiwei shook her head, determined to leave. He Ye grabbed her wrist, looking anxious.
"Xiao Ye, what are you doing?" He Mingzhu exclaimed abruptly.
He Ye immediately let go, giving Zhou Lin an indifferent look, "Zhiwei’s not feeling well."
Zhou Lin had already walked over, draping an arm around Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulder and softly asking what was wrong.
Cheng Zhiwei looked away, scoffing, "You’d be better off with her. Why bother with me?"
"Zhiwei."
"Zhou Lin, do you even care about our child and me anymore? He Mingzhu is nothing but a duplicitous, venomous person, yet you still side with her and want to work with her." Cheng Zhiwei’s voice grew louder, not caring who might hear.
"I was so wrong about you; you’re nothing but a liar," she said, bursting into tears again.
Zhou Lin’s expression turned impatient and icy, "Enough, I’ve already said that affair has nothing to do with her. Why are you still being unreasonable? And as for the company, what would a woman like you understand?"
