Chapter 393: Her Last Name is Yu
Chapter 393: Chapter 393: Her Last Name is Yu
It’s been over twenty years, and Guo Cuihua never recognized her biological daughter. Now she’s dead, and she didn’t even know the truth behind it all.
How could she not harbor anger and resentment?
She only knew that Cheng Shang was the real culprit behind this tragedy, not Cheng Zhiwei.
Moreover, Guo Cuihua was desperate to know who was the woman Cheng Shang discarded his own daughter for, in order to help.
Who was it that caused her family to fall apart and her world to crumble?
Cheng Shang pressed his head against the wall, his expression twisted. "Cuihua, stop pressuring me."
Guo Cuihua didn’t know where she found the strength, but she walked up to Cheng Shang and, looking at the man she had spent her life with, laughed a mournful laugh, "I just want to know the truth, Cheng Shang. Is this pressuring you?"
"All I need is one answer from you. Who is that woman, and what place does she hold in your heart that you’d abandon our daughter to help her?"
Each word was drenched in tears of blood.
Cheng Shang closed his eyes, his body going limp against the wall. "Her last name is Yu..."
"Yu..." Cheng Zhiwei’s heart trembled heavily. Was Yu her biological mother’s last name?
"Yu what?" Guo Cuihua persisted. "Where is she from? How did you meet her?"
"Her name is Yu Man," Cheng Shang murmured in agony. "You know my family background wasn’t good. I got bullied at school, and she was the one who helped me. She even aided me a lot academically."
That memory was extremely precious to Cheng Shang.
Had it not been for Yu Man’s life-saving kindness back then, he would have had no future to speak of, let alone his current social status.
When he encountered Yu Man at the hospital where Guo Cuihua was giving birth, he recognized her immediately.
So when Yu Man turned to him for help, he agreed without hesitation. Yu Man handed over the child to him in the late night, while Guo Cuihua, weakened by childbirth, was sound asleep.
His plan was to place Yu Man’s daughter next to Guo Cuihua while he took his biological daughter to another room to hide, under the guise that if someone asked, he could say the baby was sleepy and he was taking her out to soothe her.
But just as he stepped out with his daughter, he saw Yu Man being dragged away. Instinctively, he placed the child by the bedside to go help Yu Man.
By the time he ran out, Yu Man had already jumped from the building and died.
When he returned for the children, only one was left on the bed; the other was gone.
This was the whole truth.
And it was a secret Cheng Shang had kept buried for over twenty years.
He pounded his head, weeping uncontrollably, full of regret. He should have helped Yu Man but also protect his own daughter.
Guo Cuihua remembered. When she woke up the next day, indeed, there was news of a woman who had committed suicide by jumping off a building. And at that time, Cheng Shang was dozing off next to the bed with a child in his arms.
She never suspected these two incidents were connected.
Her already aged face full of exhaustion, Guo Cuihua looked up at the ceiling, tears streaming down unceasingly.
She hated herself. How could she have slept so soundly? If only she had been more alert, her daughter would not have been lost.
"I’m sorry, I’m so sorry," Cheng Shang painfully apologized.
He was full of regrets, but he couldn’t hate Yu Man. After all, she had died, and someone had to be accountable for this affair.
Clearly, Cheng Zhiwei was that person.
"She replaced Zhenzhen and lived more than twenty years of good life at the Cheng Family’s home, yet she still schemed at every turn to take away all that Zhenzhen cared about," Cheng Shang cursed. "An ungrateful wretch who turns on her benefactor. If it weren’t for Zhenzhen blocking disaster for you, how could you have had such good days?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s expression slowly transformed from pain to indifference. She faced Cheng Shang’s accusations without any outward emotion; the guilt had been exhausted through his repeated tantrums.
She had thought about making amends, but Cheng Shang’s demands were too much.
He had even set his sights on Zhou Ruoki.
"Slap."
The crisp sound of a slap echoed, Guo Cuihua scoffed sarcastically, "Even now you’re blaming her. Why didn’t you think of a way to protect our daughter back then?"
"I couldn’t," Cheng Shang muttered.
"Why didn’t you wake me up then?" Guo Cuihua’s words hit like a shock, rendering Cheng Shang speechless.
"Two children, couldn’t I have watched one?" Guo Cuihua’s voice shook with her question.
If Cheng Shang had woken her up at that time, each could have watched one child, and that tragedy might have been averted.
It was just that Cheng Shang was too foolish.
The air was heavy with silence.
Guo Cuihua, her body wavering, slowly returned to her room. "Cheng Shang, I will never forgive you."
"We still have Zhou Ruoki," Cheng Shang persisted, not ready to let go. "Zhou Ruoki has no mother now. We can’t leave him with Cheng Zhiwei. We have to take the child back."
He had lost his senses.
"Cheng Zhiwei, hand over Zhou Ruoki to me right now," Cheng Shang went mad, reaching for Cheng Zhiwei with a menacing look.
Cheng Zhiwei turned to run and crashed into a broad, solid embrace.
A hand grasped her shoulder, steadying her as she instinctively called his name, "Zhou Lin."
Zhou Lin’s brows furrowed, his cold gaze sweeping over Cheng Shang, he embraced Cheng Zhiwei and said to Cheng Shang, "Uncle Cheng, you’ve misunderstood, Qiqi is mine and Zhiwei’s son, not Seo Zhenzhen’s."
But Cheng Shang, as if he hadn’t heard a word, grew angry at the sight of Zhou Lin, especially seeing him and Cheng Zhiwei together, and erupted, "Ah Lin, Zhenzhen liked you so much, how could you betray her?"
Zhou Lin’s expression remained stern, sensing that Cheng Shang was unwell.
He tightened his grip on Cheng Zhiwei’s hand and calmly said. "Uncle Cheng, Seo Zhenzhen and I broke up long ago."
Cheng Shang shouted furiously, "Zhenzhen endured torture for you, she even lost her life because of you. How can you be with the one who caused her death, you heartless traitor!"
It was impossible to communicate with him.
Zhou Lin decisively pulled Cheng Zhiwei away, as the bodyguards stopped an advancing Cheng Shang, who was left screaming and cursing in the hallway.
As Cheng Zhiwei hesitantly looked back, Cheng Shang was no longer the gentle and scholarly professor he once was.
He had gone mad.
In the car, Cheng Zhiwei clasped her hands tightly together, with a heavy heart.
The Cheng Family was, in a sense, ruined and decimated.
And it was all because of her.
Her eyes reddened, tears silently falling.
After Zhou Lin finished making a phone call and got into the car, he saw Cheng Zhiwei silently crying.
He sighed softly and embraced her, "I’ve already called Cheng Zhiyin to keep an eye on Uncle Cheng’s condition."
He paused, then added, "He’s just in shock right now, he’ll come around once he thinks it through."
Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulders shook. Cheng Shang was already like this. How could he possibly understand?
"There’s something else; he said he has a paternity test proving that Qiqi is Seo Zhenzhen’s biological son." Despite her heartache, Cheng Zhiwei remembered what was important.
