Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Which Woman Did He Help Back Then
A breeze blew in through the windows of the hallway, carrying with it Cheng Shang’s voice, cold and merciless.
"What right do you have to remarry Zhou Lin?" Cheng Shang asked through clenched teeth, his disdain for Cheng Zhiwei stronger than ever before.
Cheng Zhiwei stood by the window, squinting her eyes and asked Cheng Shang, "How did you find out about this?"
She and Zhou Lin had only just picked up their marriage certificate, and she hadn’t even agreed to let Zhou Lin notify their family and friends—how could Cheng Shang know so quickly?
Cheng Shang’s expression was grim and venomous.
After their relationship was revealed to the world, all he had left for his daughter Cheng Zhiwei was hatred.
Although their father-daughter relationship wasn’t always good, there were harmonious times.
Cheng Shang had just mentioned that the grace of upbringing was greater than that of birth, but Cheng Zhiwei wanted to ask, after all these twenty-odd years of being father and daughter, how could he hate her so much.
"Cheng Zhiwei, the Cheng family raised you for over twenty years, you owe them gratitude," Cheng Shang said indifferently. "Divorce Zhou Lin immediately."
Cheng Zhiwei’s face remained expressionless; Cheng Shang really hadn’t changed at all. When she first married Zhou Lin, Cheng Shang felt sorry for Seo Zhenzhen and constantly asked her to be accommodating. Now that she and Zhou Lin were remarried and Seo Zhenzhen had died, he still jumped out, deeming it unfair to Seo Zhenzhen, demanding her to divorce.
Was her marriage a joke in his eyes?
Cheng Zhiwei finally couldn’t help but say, "If that’s the case, why did you agree to my marriage with Zhou Lin in the first place?"
Back then, he had already found Seo Zhenzhen; he should have made Zhou Lin take responsibility for Seo Zhenzhen.
Why let her marry Zhou Lin, and then act as though he owed Seo Zhenzhen?
Regret filled Cheng Shang’s eyes. "Had I known you were such an ingrate, I would never have agreed back then."
Cheng Zhiwei laughed bitterly; it was their decision, and now it was somehow her fault.
"It’s because you were afraid mom would find out and know what a terrible thing you’d done back then," Cheng Zhiwei bluntly exposed Cheng Shang’s thoughts.
He had made mistakes, always blaming heaven and earth, hiding this and hiding that, but never looking for reasons within himself.
Cheng Shang indeed had that thought back then, and now that Guo Cuihua knew the truth, he had nothing to fear, "So what, Cheng Zhiwei, if it weren’t for you, Zhenzhen would have married Zhou Lin long ago. You stole her marriage."
"Seo Zhenzhen is dead," Cheng Zhiwei raised her voice, not afraid to provoke Cheng Shang.
Perhaps Cheng Shang had already been driven mad by provocation, hence his becoming so dangerously paranoid.
Cheng Shang’s face drastically changed, his gaze suddenly falling on the window beside them, the venom in his look terrifying.
Cheng Zhiwei noticed and immediately moved away.
Cheng Shang was capable of anything.
Cheng Shang looked at Cheng Zhiwei coldly again, "If you refuse to divorce, then hand over Zhou Ruoki to me."
"You want Qiqi?" Cheng Zhiwei felt a chill in her heart, realizing something.
Cheng Shang’s rambling interference in her marriage wasn’t actually about wanting her to divorce, but about Zhou Ruoki.
"He is Zhenzhen’s son; naturally, he belongs to the Cheng family bloodline and should return to the Cheng family," Cheng Shang declared as if it were the most natural thing.
"He is not Seo Zhenzhen’s son," Cheng Zhiwei objected frowningly. "We’ve already done a paternity test."
Cheng Shang should know this, as it happened on the day Seo Zhenzhen’s accident occurred, which was also the birthday of Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing.
Cheng Shang clenched his fists tightly and spoke maliciously, "Back then I asked Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing to kneel for Zhenzhen, but you wouldn’t allow it, and now you still stubbornly hold on to her child. Cheng Zhiwei, do you want to torment him to get back at Zhenzhen?"
He accused her, seeing Cheng Zhiwei precisely as that kind of person.
Cheng Zhiwei spoke coldly, "Zhou Ruoki is my child and has nothing to do with Seo Zhenzhen."
"Impossible, he is Zhenzhen’s son, I have the paternity test right here."
A paternity test?
"Really? Let me see it," Cheng Zhiwei did not believe Cheng Shang actually had a paternity test.
After all, her and Zhou Ruoki’s paternity test was genuine; thus, whatever was in Cheng Shang’s possession must be fake.
Yet, Cheng Shang refused to show it, stubbornly insisting Zhou Ruoki was Seo Zhenzhen’s son, determined to have him return to the Cheng family to acknowledge his lineage.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want to argue further here, but Cheng Shang wouldn’t let her leave.
"Have you caused enough trouble?" Guo Cuihua emerged from the hospital room.
She looked coldly at Cheng Shang, her tone stern, "Cheng Shang, just how far do you want to take this?"
All of Cheng Shang’s anger froze on his face, but he wouldn’t admit he was in the wrong, hurriedly explaining, "I just want to retrieve our daughter’s bloodline; Zhou Ruoki is Zhenzhen’s child, he is the Cheng family’s bloodline."
He spoke urgently, trying to get Guo Cuihua to understand his purpose and to stand by him.
Guo Cuihua merely closed her eyes briefly, tiredly saying, "Cheng Shang, Zhou Ruoki is Zhiwei’s child."
Although she was nearly crushed by the truth, she had never hated Cheng Zhiwei.
Thus, at this moment, she stood with Cheng Zhiwei.
She despised what Cheng Shang had done back then, and talking about divorce wasn’t just for show.
"Impossible," Cheng Shang stated categorically, immersed in his own world.
Supported by Cheng Zhiyin, Guo Cuihua glanced sharply at Cheng Zhiwei, then spoke in an impatient tone, "Cheng Shang, since everyone is here today, have you thought about the divorce?"
Cheng Shang’s anger seemed to be doused by a bucket of water; he averted his gaze, coldly saying, "I told you, I’m not getting a divorce."
"Then tell me, which woman did you help back then, switching away my daughter?"
Cheng Zhiwei subconsciously looked at Guo Cuihua, feeling a slight warmth in her heart, her eyes growing moist.
She knew Guo Cuihua was asking now to help her clear up her origins.
Cheng Shang fell silent.
Guo Cuihua was extremely disappointed, "After all this, my daughter has been killed, and you’re still hiding it from me?"
"I know, it was one of your flings, right?" Guo Cuihua was in pain and disappointed. "You’ve deceived me so miserably."
Cheng Shang instinctively retorted, "I haven’t."
Guo Cuihua suddenly stood upright, pointing at Cheng Zhiwei and addressing Cheng Shang, "You protect your lover’s daughter, letting her live lavishly, but my daughter? She was destroyed by you, and you still have the audacity to say no."
Despite knowing Guo Cuihua was helping her, Cheng Zhiwei’s face still turned pale at these words.
Guo Cuihua was helping her, but it was also her true feelings.
She had finally vented them out.
Cheng Shang shook his head in pain, "Cuihua, you know me, I’m not that kind of person."
"What kind of person are you, a scoundrel who abandons his wife and daughter for another woman? What did my daughter do wrong to be destroyed like this?" Guo Cuihua’s tears fell.
These days, she had stayed in the hospital, almost constantly weeping.
The memory of that incident brought her immense pain.
