Chapter 314: Chapter 314 Zhiwei, I Know I Was Wrong

Due to Yu Shuhua’s health issues, they decided to eat at a restaurant near the hospital.

Yu Shuhua spoke in a measured tone, asking Cheng Zhiwei many questions, and Cheng Zhiwei responded politely and patiently, except when it came to her family affairs, about which she didn’t say much.

Yu Shuhua didn’t ask too many questions, either.

Meanwhile, Zhou Lin almost simultaneously saw the photo, his fingers tenderly caressing Cheng Zhiwei’s face in the picture, yet his expression was a grimace that seemed both like crying and smiling.

Having met the parents, had she and He Ye confirmed their relationship?

It made sense, after all, with He Ye helping her time and time again, it was only natural for her to fall for him.

If that man weren’t He Ye, he would have countless ways to take Cheng Zhiwei away.

But that person was He Ye...

...

After finishing the meal, Cheng Zhiwei and He Ye escorted Yu Shuhua back to her ward.

On the way back, Cheng Zhiwei asked Yu Shuhua what was troubling her, to which He Ye indifferently replied, "It’s just the ’three highs,’ nothing serious, just staying for a few days for a check-up."

Cheng Zhiwei nodded, "That’s good."

Suddenly her wrist was grasped, and Cheng Zhiwei stopped in her tracks, looking up at He Ye, "Senior?

"Zhiwei, I’m sorry for taking you to see my mom today without telling you first, it was abrupt of me," He Ye apologized anxiously. He hadn’t thought it through at the time, only feeling that it was what he ought to do.

He liked Cheng Zhiwei and wanted to bring her home to let Yu Shuhua know about her, hoping that over time, they would develop a bond and his mom would accept her.

Cheng Zhiwei fell silent. She understood He Ye’s intentions; indeed, He Ye was really quite remarkable, but it was exactly because he was that she dared not agree too hastily.

After all, she was a woman who had been divorced and came with two children.

"Senior, perhaps it’s better for us to just be friends," she tactfully declined.

"You went on blind dates before, because you were looking for companionship. I think I’m more suitable than those men," He Ye analyzed carefully. "Moreover, I believe if it weren’t for me, Zhou Lin would never give up."

Cheng Zhiwei looked at the tender face before her and could only respond with a bittersweet smile. He Ye was right; if she were to remarry just any man, Zhou Lin would go to any lengths to interfere.

"But, Senior, it’s not fair to you."

He deserved someone better, not just to serve as her shield.

He Ye gazed deeply into her eyes, soothing her in a soft, tender voice, "We share common interests and have plenty to talk about, that’s enough. I’m not asking you to agree today and get married tomorrow. I just hope you’ll give me a chance to be closer to you."

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes warmed with emotion, touched by being so highly regarded.

"Zhiwei?"

"Then, Senior, if I agree, you can’t back out," Cheng Zhiwei accepted.

From the beginning, she hadn’t planned to be alone forever. She could choose anyone, so why not choose someone who treated her well?

He Ye drew Cheng Zhiwei into his embrace, let out a sigh of relief, his joy making his eyebrows arch, "I’ll never go back on my word."

The two walked hand in hand, strolling slowly along the roadside. Their relationship was an equal one, which made their time together pleasant and comfortable.

Though they had just confirmed their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, their interactions remained much like that of good friends.

It seemed there were endless things to say between them, and had Guo Cuihua not called to ask when Cheng Zhiwei would be home, she felt she might just walk with He Ye until the end of time.

He Ye escorted Cheng Zhiwei to the bottom of the building, reluctantly pulling her hand, wanting to say something, but then feeling that silence was more meaningful at the moment.

"Go back, and send me a message when you get home." Cheng Zhiwei waved her hand and then pointed to his wrist, "Remember, don’t get your wound wet."

"Okay, go inside, I’ll come to pick you up tomorrow morning." He Ye instructed, then drove away.

Cheng Zhiwei’s lips curved up as she waited for the elevator.

But suddenly, a hand reached out obliquely and pulled her into the stairwell next to her.

Because the other person’s strength was so great, when the door of the safety passage closed, it made a loud noise that caused panic.

Soon, the stairwell became quiet and empty again.

Cheng Zhiwei staggered as she was pulled, falling backward directly into Zhou Lin’s arms, her forehead even hitting the button on his chest, causing her a sharp intake of breath from the pain.

The next second, a slightly cool hand covered her forehead, "Does it hurt?"

Cheng Zhiwei pushed him hard but couldn’t move him. Instead, it made him wrap his other arm even tighter around her waist, pressing her firmly against his chest.

She laughed angrily, meeting his gaze without blinking, "Zhou Lin, you’re going back on your word."

Zhou Lin didn’t get angry either, his deep and dark gaze locked on her face. His voice was hoarse, almost masochistically asking, "Did you say yes to him?"

Cheng Zhiwei felt as if the tightly stretched string in her mind had snapped, and she slapped Zhou Lin’s face fiercely.

Zhou Lin’s head tilted slightly, revealing five bright red finger marks, "Are you less angry now?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s anger reached its peak, but she became calm instead, looking coldly at Zhou Lin, "You really are shameless."

Zhou Lin clenched his fists, but his eyebrows and eyes were full of deep, gentle warmth, "Zhiwei, I just wanted to see you."

He saw those photos in the hospital and couldn’t stay seated. He knew he shouldn’t have come to find her, but he couldn’t help himself.

He watched them lingering in front of the car, unable to part, their affection unending - it sparked a fury in his heart, and he desperately wanted to rush up and pull them apart.

But he held back.

It was when she came close, however, and he saw the upturned corners of her lips.

He lost control.

How much must she like He Ye to show that kind of happy smile after they parted?

"You promised yourself, you wouldn’t appear in front of me and my child again." Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes reddened with contempt and disdain, "Or is it, Zhou Lin, that you must destroy everything I have?"

"I didn’t." Zhou Lin argued weakly.

"Didn’t you? When he finally helped me get the cooperation with Director Wen Ya, what did you do?" Cheng Zhiwei’s expression, although faint, was filled with hatred - these were things that didn’t just go away if forgotten.

Zhou Lin slowly released his hold and leaned against the wall, his forehead breaking out in a sweat.

He was very pale, "You know all about it..."

Cheng Zhiwei turned her eyes away, pretending not to see, her voice still cold, "His career was ruined, but he didn’t blame me. Instead, after he started rebuilding his career, he still thought of pulling me up with him. Unlike you, who never reflected on your mistakes, you found a doctor to hypnotize me instead."

"What’s happened can’t be covered up and treated as if it never occurred." Cheng Zhiwei took two steps back, "You claim to love me, so let me ask you, what have you done for me?"

"It’s not like that, Zhiwei, I know I was wrong."

The apology sounded so lonely in the empty stairwell.

It pierced the heart.

"It’s too late, Zhou Lin, I don’t want you anymore."
