Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Knowing How Much Pain He Was In, She Still Came with He Ye
Secretary Zhang had been following Zhou Lin for many years; he understood Zhou Lin and also understood Cheng Zhiwei, who was entangled with Zhou Lin’s feelings.
Therefore, he deliberately waited outside the studio, first mentioning the favor Zhou Lin had done for Cheng Zhiwei, then speaking of Zhou Lin’s pitiable state, suggesting there were favors from the past. With Cheng Zhiwei’s personality, even if she refused, she would take the matter to heart.
She wouldn’t like to owe Zhou Lin any favors and would visit him sooner or later.
Sure enough, Cheng Zhiwei frowned and asked, "What happened to him?"
"President Zhou fell ill; he’s currently in the hospital," Secretary Zhang didn’t go into detail but merely said, "He’s been eating less these past few days. If you visit him, his appetite might improve."
"I won’t go..." Cheng Zhiwei refused, but someone spoke up before she did.
"We should go," He Ye walked up to Cheng Zhiwei’s side, putting an arm around her shoulders, smiling gently and elegantly, "Zhiwei, since President Zhou helped us out, it’s only right we visit him."
He said "we."
Secretary Zhang’s gaze wandered back and forth between the two, feeling an ominous premonition in his heart.
"Miss Cheng..."
Cheng Zhiwei did not shrug off He Ye, but simply nodded lightly, "You’re right. We should visit him."
She knew Zhou Lin would not keep his word, and she was willing to accept He Ye’s kindness.
"Is he at Zhang Yuanheng’s place?" Cheng Zhiwei asked.
How could Secretary Zhang not understand? He said coolly without a blush, "I will convey Miss Cheng’s kind intentions to President Zhou. You’re busy with work, so there’s no need for you to go in person."
Otherwise, he was afraid that President Zhou would get so upset that it might lead to something serious.
After saying that, fearing that Cheng Zhiwei might insist on going, he quickly drove away.
Cheng Zhiwei curled her lip and turned to walk inside, "Thank you, Senior."
He Ye raised an eyebrow and grabbed her wrist, "Didn’t we agree to visit him?"
Cheng Zhiwei was taken aback, "For real?"
She thought that was just said for Secretary Zhang to hear.
"After all, he did help you. It’s only proper to visit him. Moreover, the matter with Seo Zhenzhen escalated so quickly partly because of his aid," He Ye spoke openly and made things clear.
Favors should be repaid promptly. It’s not good to let them drag on, as some people like to act with ulterior motives.
"Alright." Cheng Zhiwei decisively fetched her car, and the two of them even bought some nutritional supplements before going to the hospital.
In the hospital, Zhou Lin was reviewing reports. Secretary Zhang took a phone call and his expression suddenly turned odd.
After hesitating for a moment, he finally dared to speak, "President Zhou, Miss Cheng is here."
Zhou Lin looked up immediately; because of gastrointestinal bleeding, he had been in great pain while eating these past few days and had lost a lot of weight, leaving his face colorless.
"Let her in."
"She came with Mr. He," Secretary Zhang said guiltily, "It’s my fault. I took the liberty of seeking out Miss Cheng, hoping she would come to see you in light of yesterday’s matter, but who would’ve thought..."
Secretary Zhang was dissatisfied with Cheng Zhiwei in his heart; knowing how President Zhou felt about her, she could have simply not come, instead of deliberately bringing He Ye.
Wasn’t this intentionally provoking President Zhou?
"I’ll just say you’re resting..."
Zhou Lin looked down at the reports, his pale and thin face betraying no emotion, "Let her in."
Secretary Zhang remained silent for a few seconds, then walked out.
Cheng Zhiwei placed the items she brought by the bed. Zhou Lin glanced at them, the corner of his mouth curling up with sarcasm—the nutritional supplements clearly seemed like an afterthought.
"I heard you were hospitalized; I came to see how you were doing," Cheng Zhiwei tried to keep her tone as gentle as possible, void of any emotion.
It was as if she was speaking to just an ordinary friend.
Polite and grateful.
Zhou Lin felt his stomach ache, but he remained outwardly calm, "No need to thank me."
"You..." Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know what to say, as if Zhou Lin had already agreed that he would not appear before her and her child, and they instantly became polite strangers.
It was Zhou Lin who couldn’t hold back first, lifting his eyes to look at her quietly, "Are you hurt?"
"No, He Ye saved me."
Zhou Lin of course knew it was He Ye who had saved her. At that time, he was lying in the hospital bed, suffering excruciating pain in his stomach, but he had learnt of the incident involving Cheng Zhiwei at the first opportunity and had immediately sent people to deal with it.
Zhou Lin glanced at He Ye beside her.
Their shoulders touched each other, looking very close. It was said that for the past month, they had been coming and going together and had even prepared several songs, all of them duets.
Zhou Lin’s gaze fell on the half of He Ye’s wrist, where he could vaguely see the white gauze.
Feeling a bitterness in his chest, he lowered his gaze back to the report.
Cheng Zhiwei... She knew how much pain he was in, yet she still came with He Ye...
"I still have work to process, so I won’t keep you here."
It was a cold and inhumane order to leave.
Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t be more eager as she immediately said, "Then you go ahead with your work."
She pulled He Ye and couldn’t wait to leave.
Fearing even a second’s delay.
Zhou Lin’s hand clenched until veins protruded, and as soon as the door of the ward closed, he threw the tablet in his hand, which landed with a sharp crack followed by his slightly labored breathing.
He had never felt such disgrace before.
Disgrace so deep he had to restrain all emotions fiercely.
The next second, he raised his hand to press down on the spot above his stomach.
"President Zhou." Secretary Zhang did not dare to neglect and hurried out to find a doctor.
Moving urgently, Cheng Zhiwei paused in her steps and glanced at the ward.
"He must be feeling unwell, should we wait for the doctor before we leave?" He Ye asked with concern.
Cheng Zhiwei shook her head and withdrew her gaze, entering the elevator.
She was just a stranger coming to express her thanks.
As the elevator doors closed, He Ye pressed the button, but he didn’t select the ground floor; instead, he chose to go down two floors to the inpatient area.
"Are you going to see a friend?" Cheng Zhiwei didn’t think much of it.
"Not a friend, but someone important," He Ye said with a secretive smile at her.
Cheng Zhiwei nodded, "Then shall I wait for you downstairs?"
"Since we’re here, let’s go together."
It was only once they reached the ward that Cheng Zhiwei learned He Ye was visiting his mother.
He Ye’s mother, Yu Shuhua, was actually only in her fifties, but whether it was illness or something else that caused it, she looked somewhat aged.
As soon as she saw Cheng Zhiwei, she smiled politely, "I know you, you’re the girl who sings with Xiao Ye, you sing really well."
Cheng Zhiwei felt a bit awkward, "Auntie, hello."
Yu Shuhua touched her hair and playfully scolded He Ye, "You didn’t even give me a heads-up before coming, I’m totally unprepared."
"It’s my fault for not bringing anything, sorry Auntie," Cheng Zhiwei quickly apologized, for if she had known to visit He Ye’s mother, she would have brought a gift for sure.
"It’s my fault. I didn’t tell anyone," said He Ye jokingly. "So to express my apologies, how about I treat the two beautiful ladies to dinner?"
In front of Yu Shuhua, he was more lively. It was clear to see that the mother and son had a good relationship.
Yu Shuhua immediately agreed, and Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t refuse either.
