The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife -
Chapter 315: Sorry, Goodbye
Chapter 315: Chapter 315: Sorry, Goodbye
It was already too late.
If Zhou Lin had tried to make amends for the hurt he had caused Cheng Zhiwei when he discovered his mistake, she might have easily forgiven him.
But he didn’t; faced with his own error, he chose to make mistake after mistake.
Now, what made him think a simple "I know I was wrong" would be enough to gloss over everything?
He wasn’t naive, yet he assumed others were foolish.
"Between He Ye and you, do you think I would choose someone who has hurt me?" Cheng Zhiwei smirked sarcastically, the irony thick in her voice. "No, Zhou Lin, if I really chose you, it would make me feel sick."
Sick?
Zhou Lin’s face turned pale, the fine sweat on his forehead now large beads. He pressed his hand against his stomach, bending over slightly.
Cheng Zhiwei watched him coldly and took out her phone to call Secretary Zhang to pick up Zhou Lin.
While waiting for Secretary Zhang, Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but add, "Zhou Lin, let go of me, and let go of yourself as well. Look at yourself now, where is the brilliance of the past? Doesn’t such a state disgust you?"
Zhou Lin was in extreme pain but still clearly heard Cheng Zhiwei’s words.
He simply sat on the ground, his knees propping up his stomach, his voice breaking in agony, "Zhiwei..."
But what he met was only her indifferent eyes.
He was in terrible pain; she was utterly unmoved.
This was their relationship now.
Secretary Zhang was nearby and arrived quickly.
Zhou Lin was helped up, and as he passed by Cheng Zhiwei, he raised his hand as if wanting to touch her, but eventually, he let it drop.
"I’m sorry."
"Goodbye."
The stairwell returned to silence, and Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but tilt her head back, forcing the tears back in.
A simple goodbye signified that she had truly ended things with Zhou Lin.
From now on, he would never appear in her life again.
The tears eventually fell, and Cheng Zhiwei smiled a smile of relief.
A few days later, with the release of the new song, Cheng Zhiwei became incredibly busy, practically forgetting the events of the past few days.
So, when she received a call from Yu Shuhua, she was startled. Yu Shuhua asked her courteously if she had time.
Before Cheng Zhiwei could respond, Yu Shuhua went on, "Auntie would like to invite you to dinner, to talk."
Cheng Zhiwei agreed.
To talk, no doubt, about He Ye.
He Ye was still in the recording studio; Cheng Zhiwei whispered a few instructions to the staff and went to the agreed-upon place.
On the way there, she deliberately detoured through a mall and bought a necklace as a gift for the occasion.
Upon arrival, Yu Shuhua had already ordered the food, a table full of vegetarian dishes.
Cheng Zhiwei glanced at it without a word and sat down with a smile. "Auntie, I’m sorry for being late, there was some traffic on the way."
Yu Shuhua replied gently, "It’s alright, I’ve only arrived shortly before you. I wasn’t sure about your taste, so I just ordered some dishes. You know I have to deal with hypertension and diabetes, so I can’t eat meat; that’s why I ordered vegetarian food. If you don’t like it, we can order something else."
"It’s fine, Auntie, I’m not hungry."
Yu Shuhua brought out a bag and pushed it towards Cheng Zhiwei, "When our He Ye took you to meet me last time, he didn’t even give me a heads-up, so I was totally unprepared. This is a little something from me, consider it a meeting gift."
"Auntie, you’re being too kind." Cheng Zhiwei glanced inside the bag, which contained two sets of building blocks.
She instantly realized that Yu Shuhua must have learned about her having two children.
She felt somewhat resentful in her heart but still acted very graciously, taking the bag, "Thank you."
Yu Shuhua leaned on the sofa and smiled, "Miss Cheng’s two children are very cute, they are Zhou Lin’s, aren’t they?"
That past incident had caused quite a stir, and even those who didn’t know Cheng Zhiwei could find out about her history with Zhou Lin with a little investigation.
The smile on Cheng Zhiwei’s face faded slightly, and she didn’t take out the gift that was in her bag.
"Yes."
"Let me be frank then, I don’t think Miss Cheng and Xiao Ye are suitable for each other." Yu Shuhua said slowly, "I wonder if Xiao Ye has told you about the He family’s affairs?"
"You might be mistaken, Auntie. At the moment, he and I are just trying to date; we have no plans for marriage," Cheng Zhiwei put the gift aside and took a sip of water, "So his family background, I really don’t care to know."
Yu Shuhua had opened up, and she certainly wouldn’t stop talking just because of a few words from Cheng Zhiwei.
"He Ye has loved music since he was young, but his father didn’t agree. During the college entrance examination, he secretly changed his preferences to go to Yucheng. Later, after he achieved some success, his father then changed his mind about making him come home to take over the family business."
"One could say that all his accomplishments over the years have been achieved on his own; none of us helped him, and he’s my pride," Yu Shuhua said with the corners of her mouth raised and a tender smile.
"Of course, you’ve had his support on your musical journey, Miss Cheng, so you haven’t really experienced hardship, but it’s different for him; he truly struggled and worked hard," Yu Shuhua spoke, somewhat moved, with a hint of red in her eyes, "So I hope that his future wife will be a helpmate and not an obstacle in his career."
She stopped just short of saying directly that Cheng Zhiwei was a stumbling block for He Ye.
"Auntie, he and I..."
"Your affair with Zhou Lin caused such a scandal, and you’re carrying his children. Do you really think Zhou Lin could let go so easily? My son’s career has already been ruined by him once, and I do not want a second time," Yu Shuhua said seriously, looking straight at Cheng Zhiwei.
"I understand, but I want to respect He Ye’s wishes." Since Cheng Zhiwei had agreed to date He Ye, she wasn’t going to give up easily.
What she wanted was He Ye’s attitude.
If He Ye thought his mother’s words were reasonable, she would break up without hesitation.
After all, when she decided to start seeing someone again, she hadn’t intended to suffer any more humiliation.
"Miss Cheng, you don’t understand the power of the He family in Ning City. If you persist in this, you’ll regret it," Yu Shuhua warned.
"Mom." A slightly breathless voice came, and He Ye had practically strode over.
Cheng Zhiwei moved to the side, making room for He Ye.
He Ye sat down and glanced at the vegetarian dishes on the table, his eyebrows furrowing slightly.
He held Cheng Zhiwei’s hand under the table and said openly to Yu Shuhua, "I’ve always said, I make my own decisions. Pursuing music was my choice, and being with Zhiwei is my choice. Please don’t interfere."
Yu Shuhua had endless patience for He Ye and shook her head with a smile, "I was just having some light conversation with Miss Cheng. Why are you in such a hurry? Yes, you are a decisive child, you’ve always made your own decisions, and I trust you."
He Ye let out a slight sigh of relief, with a faint smile appearing on his face, "Mom, let’s eat."
"Mhm."
Cheng Zhiwei ate quietly, taking only a few bites before putting down her chopsticks, and He Ye did the same. Both waited silently for Yu Shuhua to finish before they left.
On the way back to the studio, He Ye asked worriedly, "What did she say to you? Did she make things difficult for you?"
He came out of the recording studio after hearing what the staff had said, just in time to get there. He wasn’t clear on what his mother and Cheng Zhiwei had discussed.
But he could sense the atmosphere when he arrived; their interaction had not been pleasant.
So thinking about it, he could guess what his mother might have said.
