Chapter 312: Chapter 312 President Zhou Is Quite Pitiful

"Sister Zhiwei," Zhang Xiaoman greeted enthusiastically, "you’re up. I made breakfast, do you want to try some?"

Cheng Zhiwei smiled politely, "Thank you, Xiaoman. I need to leave now. Qiqi is already awake; you can go find him."

"He’s awake?" Zhang Xiaoman immediately took off her apron and headed upstairs, not saying anything more to Cheng Zhiwei.

Cheng Zhiwei descended the stairs, her gaze sweeping around. She did not see Zhou Lin, only the female secretary she had seen in Zhou Lin’s office before.

Upon seeing her, the secretary hurried over and said, "Miss Cheng, President Zhou had to leave on urgent business. He instructed me to say that you can tell me if you need anything."

"Thank you, but I don’t have anything to convey. I’m going home now," Cheng Zhiwei replied nonchalantly as she walked outside.

"Miss Cheng, President Zhou specifically asked me to tell you that this villa is yours, and you can continue to live here," the secretary said.

Cheng Zhiwei, of course, knew that when they divorced, Zhou Lin had given her this house.

"No need. I want to be taken home now." She certainly didn’t want to stay here any longer.

"Very well, Miss Cheng," the secretary agreed, handing Cheng Zhiwei a business card, "You can contact me directly if you need anything in the future."

"Alright."

After Cheng Zhiwei got home, she played with Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing for a while before Guo Cuihua called her over.

She had told Guo Cuihua about spending the previous night with Zhou Lin, but she did not mention Zhou Lin’s excessive proposal, only saying they needed to discuss the custody of the children.

Guo Cuihua worried that Zhou Lin might resort to underhanded tactics to take the children away.

"Everything has been settled; we won’t have dealings anymore," Cheng Zhiwei concisely said, "Don’t worry. We will still need you and Dad to look after Yangyang and Xingxing."

"Those are trifles," Guo Cuihua breathed a sigh of relief, as long as the children could always stay with the Cheng family.

In the afternoon, Cheng Zhiwei took Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing to visit He Yuming.

Xu Tian originally moved in with He Yuming at the He family’s home, but after only three days, He Yuming refused to stay any longer, saying he was scared.

He wouldn’t eat or sleep properly and was visibly lacking energy. Left with no choice, the Parents of the He Family let Xu Tian take him to live elsewhere.

But at that moment, He Yuming rolling around with Cheng Yang showed no signs of poor spirits.

Cheng Zhiwei asked, "How is He Lanzhi doing?"

Xu Tian’s expression cooled, "He got injured, right? They took him to the hospital after the interrogation, I heard he was beaten up."

I heard...

Cheng Zhiwei instantly grasped the implication of those words.

"Was the beating serious?" she inquired.

Xu Tian casually replied, "Not too serious. Just broke two ribs and a leg, that’s all."

"Inflicting such harsh punishment, aren’t you afraid his parents will be distressed?"

After all, Xu Tian was still nominally He Lanzhi’s wife and a daughter-in-law of the He family. That she had beaten He Lanzhi so severely, it would be strange if He Lanzhi’s parents felt any distress.

They are his biological parents, after all.

"That’s why He Yuming is afraid and has a psychological shadow, so he moved out to live here," Xu Tian explained.

Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but laugh, "He Yuming really is quite astute."

Speaking of the child, Xu Tian’s smile grew wider, "Yeah, I was thinking of just bearing it but didn’t expect He Yuming to directly say he wanted to live over here."

She didn’t have many emotional ties to He Lanzhi’s parents. When the incident happened, they felt that He Lanzhi going to prison was him paying the price for his actions.

Xu Tian injuring someone severely, in their view, was excessive. No matter the circumstances, they would typically have some complaints.

But He Yuming was different; He Yuming was the cherished heir of the He family, their only seedling. Everything had to revolve around him.

When he was unhappy and developed psychological issues, the parents of He Lanzhi would only feel twice as guilty; moving out was a mere trifle for them.

Cheng Zhiwei also shared her good news with Xu Tian, "From now on, he has nothing to do with us."

"That’s really great news," Xu Tian said, happy for her.

They felt as though they’d finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel.

Zhou Lin kept his word; he truly never showed up in front of Cheng Zhiwei and the children again. Cheng Zhiwei occasionally saw news about him, but she didn’t care—when she did, she simply swiped it away.

Over a month passed in this manner, and as the heat subsided somewhat, Cheng Zhiwei sent Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing to kindergarten.

She also officially joined He Ye’s studio to start work.

Thanks to the path He Ye had paved for her, along with the uproar caused by Xu Tian’s affair, Cheng Zhiwei, as a victim, had gained a considerable following, and her popularity quickly soared.

Her newly released single was a hit across major online platforms.

Plenty of opportunities came her way, but Cheng Zhiwei accepted only the essential ones, turning down all others so she could spend her free time at home with the kids.

Days passed by steadily, imbuing a sense of security.

At the month-end gathering, everyone was visibly excited, a stark contrast to their demeanor a month before when they simply considered their job at He Ye’s studio as routine work.

But now, they saw hope, and thus they worked with even more passion and effort.

The entire studio was thriving.

After the meal, having seen the others off, He Ye and Cheng Zhiwei took a stroll along the roadside. Perhaps buoyed by the pleasant atmosphere, their conversation today was especially joyful.

So when a motorcycle suddenly sped towards them, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t realize what was happening until He Ye pushed her, and both of them fell hard on the ground.

The motorcycle missed them and immediately turned tail and fled.

"Are you alright?" Cheng Zhiwei’s face was pale as she had already gotten up and was reaching out to help He Ye.

He Ye’s elbow had hit the ground and was bleeding; the pain made his face look worse, "I’m fine. How about you?"

"I’m okay." Cheng Zhiwei calmed down, called the police, and then took He Ye to the hospital.

He Ye’s arm injury was somewhat severe and needed three stitches.

On the way back, they took a taxi, and He Ye said softly, "I think you’d better not go out for the time being."

Even though they didn’t know for sure whom the motorcycle was targeting, they both knew it was aimed at Cheng Zhiwei.

Cheng Zhiwei gave a bitter smile, "I don’t even know who I’ve offended."

Though, on reflection, she could guess who it might be; just because she couldn’t come out of the police station didn’t mean others couldn’t seek revenge.

"It will be investigated thoroughly."

But in fact, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t have to wait until the next day to find out.

Outside the studio, Secretary Zhang was waiting especially for Cheng Zhiwei: "The motorcycle rider has been caught; it was one of Xu Tian’s fans, and they have been delivered to the police station."

Caught?

Was it Zhou Lin?

Cheng Zhiwei was at a loss for words and after a long pause she calmly said, "Please thank him for me."

"Miss Cheng, if you want to thank President Zhou, you should visit him at the hospital," Secretary Zhang’s voice was even lower, as if afraid someone would overhear, "President Zhou is quite pitiable."
