Chapter 311: Chapter 311 Can You Not Marry Dad?
Zhou Lin brought Zhou Ruoki to the hospital.
Cheng Zhiwei had taken a shower, changed clothes and came out, thinking that the night would just pass by like this and was planning to leave directly. However, just as she reached the ground floor, she saw Secretary Zhang.
The intention of Secretary Zhang was simple; he would take Cheng Zhiwei to the hospital.
Cheng Zhiwei had promised to spend the night with Zhou Lin, so despite feeling speechless, she went along.
In the hospital, Zhou Ruoki had been given an injection and was already asleep. Zhou Lin had gone to see the doctor, and after Secretary Zhang dropped Cheng Zhiwei off, he took Zhang Xiaoman back.
With light steps, she closed the door behind her, Cheng Zhiwei walked up to the bedside and looked at Zhou Ruoki, the small child’s face pale, tear stains on the corners of his eyes, his lashes moist, and a needle still fixed to his left hand—pitiful.
Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but take a tissue and tenderly wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes.
She then adjusted his blanket slightly.
"Mommy," a feeble tiny voice suddenly arose.
Cheng Zhiwei was startled, her hand paused next to his tender cheek.
Zhou Ruoki’s eyelashes trembled, and he did not wake up, only tears seeped from the corners of his eyes again as he moved restlessly.
Cheng Zhiwei, afraid that he would displace the needle, quickly held his hand.
She really shouldn’t have been concerned, as this was Seo Zhenzhen’s child, yet thinking about the innocence of the child, she felt justified, and her heart softened.
Gently lifting Zhou Ruoki up, she leaned against the headboard, allowing Zhou Ruoki to lie in her arms, gently patting him with her palm.
Zhou Ruoki felt secure and soon calmed down, falling into a deeper sleep.
Outside, Zhou Lin stood quietly, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on the tender scene inside the room, his heart burning hot, yet tasting even more bitter.
If only he had been nicer to her back then, he wouldn’t be just secretly watching this scene from outside.
After what seemed like an eternity, Zhou Lin moved his somewhat numb feet and walked in.
"What did the doctor say?" Cheng Zhiwei casually asked.
"He can go back after the injection is done," Zhou Lin replied.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t ask further, leaning against the headboard and closed her eyes to rest, both soft and distant.
The hospital room was too quiet.
Zhou Lin took the initiative to ask Cheng Zhiwei whether she wanted some late-night snacks, offering to arrange for it.
"No need." Cheng Zhiwei turned to check the time on her phone.
Zhou Lin’s heart clenched with her movement, he uncontrollably asked in a low voice, "Are you so eager for dawn?"
"Everyone longs for dawn," Cheng Zhiwei’s lips curled up, revealing a faint, cold smile, "Or are we supposed to stay in the dark forever?"
She spoke with double meanings, and Zhou Lin understood.
He had nothing to say, therefore he chose silence.
After his injection was done, Cheng Zhiwei was preparing to lay Zhou Ruoki back on the bed to remove the needle, but he, half-asleep, clutched at Cheng Zhiwei’s embrace, his little hand tightly grabbing her clothes, and even softly calling out, "Mommy."
Cheng Zhiwei could only hold him again, gently comforting him.
On the way back, she was the one who held him.
Because Zhou Ruoki absolutely refused to let anyone else carry him, if he even slightly sensed someone trying to take him away, he would immediately cling tightly to Cheng Zhiwei’s clothes.
After several struggles, Cheng Zhiwei simply carried Zhou Ruoki, not letting Zhou Lin intervene, which finally resulted in, on the large bed in the master bedroom, the two of them with a child sleeping between them.
The night was quiet and tender, moonlight scattered across the room, especially beautiful.
Zhou Lin had no desire to sleep, he quietly turned his head and saw Cheng Zhiwei lying on her side towards him, her hand still on Zhou Ruoki, breathing evenly.
If there hadn’t been those misunderstandings back then, lying between them would have been Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing, they would have coaxed the children to sleep, and after the children had fallen asleep, there might have been even more intimate love.
Thinking this, he felt as if a giant hand was fiercely clutching his heart, making it difficult for him to breathe.
He stood up and went to the balcony, where the summer night’s air, laden with heat, magnified the irritations at the bottom of one’s heart.
Realizing that after tonight he and Cheng Zhiwei would become strangers, Zhou Lin felt a chill penetrating his bones.
Cheng Zhiwei slept soundly that night, with Zhou Ruoki being her best shield.
When she opened her eyes, she still found it somewhat unbelievable that she had gotten through the night safely.
Lifting her hand to touch Zhou Ruoki’s forehead, and meeting his bright black eyes, Cheng Zhiwei’s lips spread into a tender smile as she softly said, "Good morning, Qiqi."
Zhou Ruoki burrowed into the covers, leaving only two slick black eyes visible, his little mind puzzled as to how he ended up sleeping in Cheng Zhiwei’s sweet embrace.
Even though he disliked her.
Cheng Zhiwei had no plans to get closer to Zhou Ruoki, she got dressed, checked the time on her phone, and prepared to leave.
"Auntie," Zhou Ruoki’s tiny voice called out from behind her.
"Yes, what is it?" Cheng Zhiwei turned to look at him.
"Auntie, will you marry my dad?" Zhou Ruoki bravely asked.
The beautiful auntie was gentle, but he still wanted his own parents to be together.
"Can you not marry my dad?" he quietly pleaded, his pale little face full of sorrow.
His mom might not have been tender toward him, but that was because his dad and mom hadn’t married like other children’s parents. If they were married, mom would definitely be a gentle mom too.
Like all children, he hoped his parents would always be together.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t speak because she didn’t know how to explain the adults’ complications to this child.
She remained silent, her expression subtly shifting.
Zhou Ruoki, somewhat scared, shrank back into the covers, "I’m sorry."
He didn’t know why he was apologizing, but he felt his words had saddened the auntie.
Cheng Zhiwei walked to the side of the bed, touched Zhou Ruoki’s head, and smiled, "Alright, auntie promises you."
After all, starting today, she and Zhou Lin were truly strangers.
They would never marry.
"Really?" Zhou Ruoki suddenly popped out from under the covers, his eyes bright but his lips shyly pursed, "I... I..."
"Qiqi is a good boy, you did the right thing."
Cheng Zhiwei fully understood Zhou Ruoki’s thought; she wasn’t upset because children his age couldn’t grasp notions of good or evil.
He only yearned for his parents’ love and a warm family.
After ruffling Zhou Ruoki’s head again, Cheng Zhiwei left the room.
As she closed the door, that uncomfortable feeling in her heart finally surfaced; she couldn’t understand where this discomfort came from, but she knew very well, it wasn’t because Zhou Ruoki had begged her not to be with Zhou Lin.
It was an indescribable emotion.
Standing quietly for a while, she went downstairs.
The smell of food wafted through the air.
As she passed the corner, she saw a petite figure bustling about in the kitchen.
It was Zhang Xiaoman.
