The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife -
Chapter 246: Marriage Deception
Chapter 246: Chapter 246: Marriage Deception
Guo Cuihua got straight to the point. "I don’t know what Cheng Can told you, but you and Zhiyin are not suitable for each other. Don’t call her casually in the future."
Lin Jun stood up abruptly, his anger evident. "What did you say?"
Cheng Zhiyin had already walked over, her tone serious. "I’m sorry, I think we’re not suitable."
"This is a wedding scam," Lin Jun accused angrily.
Cheng Zhiyin was momentarily stunned, then frowned. "What wedding scam? Don’t talk nonsense."
She hadn’t had any dealings with him, so how could it be a wedding scam?
"You’ve taken my betrothal gifts, and now you’re backing out. If this isn’t a wedding scam, what is it?" He clenched his fists, his veins throbbing with fury.
It seemed that if Cheng Zhiyin continued talking like this, he might get violent.
"What betrothal gifts?" Cheng Shang came over, protectively moving Cheng Zhiyin behind him, his face expressionless. "Your betrothal gifts must have been given to Cheng Can."
He had already guessed what was happening.
Cheng Can had not only deceived him out of his house but also tried to sell his daughter to someone else.
At that moment, Cheng Shang felt extremely disappointed in Cheng Can, so he no longer wished to cover for her. "We haven’t received any betrothal gifts from you; you might have been deceived."
Cheng Zhiyin realized what had happened. "My aunt only mentioned this to me in passing; she didn’t give me any money or anything. You should ask her about it."
Lin Jun immediately called Cheng Can and, after a few questions, scoffed, "Return the money to me right away."
He glanced at Cheng Zhiyin after whatever was said on the other end of the line but didn’t speak.
He hung up the phone and even took the initiative to leave.
Cheng Zhiyin had a bad feeling, especially after the way he looked at her; it was somewhat menacing.
"Mom, what should we do? I feel like he won’t let this go easily," Cheng Zhiyin said nervously.
"Don’t be afraid, it’s not as if he can do anything illegal to you," Guo Cuihua consoled her, though she felt somewhat anxious herself.
Cheng Zhiwei said softly, "For now, none of you should go out first, and pay attention to your safety."
"But I have to go to work tomorrow."
School starts on Monday.
Zhou Lin then arranged for two bodyguards to follow Cheng Zhiyin to ensure her safety.
Half a month passed, and all was safe and sound. Zhou Lin even returned to Yucheng once during that time to deal with company matters.
Since Cheng Zhiwei’s prenatal examination was approaching, Guo Cuihua advised her to go back early, which would be good for making preparations for the future.
Cheng Zhiwei agreed and decided to return to Yucheng after the anniversary of her grandmother’s death.
Cheng Zhiwei’s grandmother had passed away five years ago, and the anniversary was tomorrow, so they needed to go back to the countryside.
Unable to tolerate the gossip, Cheng Can had returned many days ago and was now giving Cheng Shang’s family a cold shoulder while cracking sunflower seeds.
Cheng Shang also didn’t wish to visit her home and instead went next door to Cheng Rong’s.
Cheng Rong was kind-hearted, and her younger family members were the same, treating Cheng Shang’s family nicely, particularly her son, who eagerly clung to Cheng Shang’s arm and affectionately called him Third Uncle.
When he got married, in an effort to be fair, Cheng Shang gave 200,000 yuan as a wedding gift, and this money later became a lifesaver for him.
He had always remembered Cheng Shang’s kindness.
Cheng Shang involved Zhou Lin in the conversation, and although Zhou Lin was unfamiliar with them, he was approachable and friendly, fitting in quickly.
He didn’t come off as the decisive and ruthless CEO known in the business world.
Cheng Rong liked to see harmony among the younger generation, and she sat next to Cheng Zhiwei. "We didn’t know about your wedding at the time, but now it seems you’ve found yourself a good man."
Cheng Zhiwei just smiled and remained silent.
Guo Cuihua changed the subject and they began to chat about family matters.
However, it wasn’t long before Cheng Can came over, awkwardly inviting everyone to a meal to apologize for what she had done that day.
Cheng Shang didn’t want to go.
Cheng Can’s tears suddenly came down as she cried about how hard the past years had been for her, and Cheng Zhiwu was such an irresponsible person. After divorcing, he found another woman who got pregnant and demanded a house before getting married.
She had no choice but to resort to this plan.
Cheng Shang’s heart softened, and he agreed; after all, they were family. Could they really sever ties completely?
Cheng Rong felt the same way. Tomorrow was their grandmother’s death anniversary, and they couldn’t possibly disrespect her old lady by being at odds.
Cheng Can arranged a table full of good food and drinks and went around toasting everyone, acting meek and deferential. Considering her personality, it was indeed incredible that she would do something like this.
It made everyone think that she genuinely realized her mistake,
Cheng Zhiwei, however, didn’t touch a bite, just watching coldly. Cheng Can, with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, said, "Zhiwei, why aren’t you eating? Are you still unwilling to forgive your aunt?"
Cheng Zhiwei gave a faint smile, "Not hungry, won’t eat."
What a joke, she didn’t believe for a second that Cheng Can could really change. There must be a scheme.
A flash of hatred crossed Cheng Can’s eyes, but she didn’t take it to heart, after all, she was just a woman.
Soon, everyone had drunk too much.
Cheng Zhiyin had Cheng Can’s daughter sitting beside her. The girl took Cheng Zhiyin’s hand, warmly saying, "Zhiyin, could you accompany me to the restroom?"
Cheng Zhiyin looked at Cheng Zhiwei indiscernibly and agreed.
Cheng Zhiwei watched her own fingers, silently counting the time.
In exactly ten minutes, a piercing scream came from the restroom, "Help, someone help me!"
Cheng Zhiwei immediately ran over. Zhou Lin grabbed her wrist and gave her a reassuring smile, "It’s okay."
The woman’s screams continued.
Cheng Can charged to the front, calling "Zhiyin, what’s wrong, Zhiyin? Are you okay?" as if sure that the incident had to involve Cheng Zhiyin.
When Guo Cuihua heard this, she became anxious, "What’s happened to Zhiyin?"
A crowd swayed in front of the restroom door, and from inside came the sounds of a woman’s struggle and a man’s heavy breathing.
The restroom door was locked from the inside.
"Zhiyin, how are you doing, Zhiyin?" Cheng Can knocked on the door, not really listening, presuming it was Cheng Zhiyin inside.
"Move aside." Cheng Shang glared, fiercely kicking the door, which didn’t budge.
In the midst of the commotion, a clear female voice asked, "What’s happening?"
Everyone quieted down.
Guo Cuihua froze, then embraced the suddenly appearing Cheng Zhiyin, "Zhiyin, you’re okay?"
Cheng Zhiyin looked puzzled, "What’s wrong with me? Were you looking for me?"
"You... how come you’re here?" Cheng Can asked subconsciously, then realized something else. If Cheng Zhiyin was here, then who was in the restroom...
She yanked Cheng Shang away, trembling as she took out a key from her pocket, and opened the door.
The scene inside was extremely indecent.
Cheng Shang lunged forward to pull Lin Jun away, slapping him hard, "You looking to die? That’s your niece."
Lin Jun’s large bald head gave off an excited red glow, looking utterly ghastly.
Guo Cuihua led Cheng Zhiwei and Cheng Zhiyin away, sighing repeatedly, "What sins have we committed."
Cheng Can shouted angrily, "Cheng Zhiyin, this is all your doing."
Cheng Zhiyin spread her hands innocently, "Aunt, what are you talking about? It was your daughter who invited me to go to the restroom with her, and moreover, I left after I was done. I don’t know what happened here after that."
She blinked, her tone innocent yet composed.
