Chapter 245: Chapter 245: That’s Just the Kind of Person He Is in His Bones
"When you transferred the ownership, you signed willingly and gave me the house. How can you claim deception now?" He sauntered around the room casually, "If anyone should call the police, it’s me, for Uncle’s intrusion into a private residence."
"Uncle is a professor, right? Imagine how this will look to others," Cheng Zhiwu knew too well how much Cheng Shang valued his reputation.
He was certain Cheng Shang wouldn’t dare cause a scene.
Such arrogance, nothing like the abject figure kneeling and begging him for help yesterday.
Cheng Shang was so angry he saw black, remembering how Guo Cuihua had tried to stop him, yet he persisted stubbornly.
Even a rabbit will bite when cornered, and a professor will punch when pressed.
Cheng Shang slapped Cheng Zhiwu across the face, "Shameless."
Cheng Zhiwu, burly and sturdy, immediately turned cold, his tongue touching the spot where he was hit, "Uncle, you are the elder. I’ll take this slap, but this place is mine now. Please leave."
"Cheng Zhiwu, you’ve gone too far," Cheng Rong yelled angrily, "This is clearly fraud."
Cheng Zhiwu laughed nonchalantly, "Aunt, it’s just survival of the fittest. Uncle is to blame for his own foolishness."
Cheng Shang’s good intentions were called foolish, and his worldview shattered into countless pieces, "Cheng Zhiwu, give me back the house."
He tugged at Cheng Zhiwu, desperate to retrieve the house and beg Guo Cuihua for forgiveness.
But he was old and not as strong as Cheng Zhiwu. During the scuffle, Cheng Zhiwu, annoyed, punched him hard and pushed him away.
"Uncle, don’t push your luck. This is my house."
With that, he pushed Cheng Shang and Cheng Rong out of the door.
Cheng Shang stood at the door, nearly passing out from fury.
He frowned and called Cheng Can.
Upon hearing his story, Cheng Can feigned surprise, "What, Zhiwu deceived me?"
"Come with me to the police station and testify that he committed fraud," Cheng Shang naively said.
"Brother, just let Zhiwu have this one. His wife is about to give birth, and after that, the child will need to attend school. Without the house, they would have to go back to their hometown, where the education is terrible and the child would be ruined," Cheng Can said.
The more Cheng Shang listened, the colder his heart grew, and he finally faced reality, "Sister, you deceived me."
"How did I deceive you? You still have houses in Yucheng. What’s the harm in giving this one to Zhiwu? When you’re old, Zhiwu will take care of you."
Cheng Can hung up after speaking.
Cheng Shang stood in place for a long time, finally collapsing to the ground.
When Cheng Zhiwei heard the news, it was after her nap. Zhou Lin was quietly working on the sofa. Seeing her awake, he told her about Cheng Shang’s hospitalization.
"Hospitalized?" Cheng Zhiwei was surprised.
Zhou Lin closed his computer, "Your aunt and your brother took your dad’s house. He learned the truth and fainted from anger."
Cheng Zhiwei immediately realized that Cheng Can and Cheng Zhiwu had staged a play yesterday to deceive Cheng Shang out of his house.
"Serves him right." She sneered. It was Cheng Shang’s own choice.
Zhou Lin leaned over to drape a coat over her shoulders, "Mom and sister have already gone to the hospital. Let’s go too."
"Of course we should go."
Though it might seem unkind, Cheng Zhiwei just wanted to see Cheng Shang’s downfall for herself.
At the hospital, inside the sickroom, Guo Cuihua reproachfully said, "Only you couldn’t see her greedy nature. You even blamed me for being selfish. Now you understand, right?"
Cheng Shang accepted the scolding silently, holding Guo Cuihua’s hand firmly.
Watching him weak and powerless, Guo Cuihua also felt pity, her tone softening, "It’s done now; being sad here won’t help. Better think of a way to get the house back."
Cheng Shang was indeed stubborn and cared too much about face, but the truly detestable ones were those involved in schemes and plots.
"I’ve already reported to the police, saying they were fraudsters," Cheng Shang said hoarsely.
Guo Cuihua was stunned for a moment, then teased him, "You’re finally willing to let go."
Cheng Shang couldn’t tolerate any deceit, he wouldn’t just accept being deceived; he had to seek justice.
"Dad, let me handle this," Cheng Zhiyin said, looking at Cheng Shang’s worn-out appearance, "Zhiwei is also here, we’ll think of something."
Speaking of Cheng Zhiwei made Cheng Shang a bit uncomfortable, remembering how she had tried everything to stop him, knowing then that Cheng Can harbored ill intentions, yet he had misunderstood her.
Cheng Zhiwei stood at the door for a while, ultimately not going in to witness the spectacle; as long as Cheng Shang was fine, she didn’t want to start an argument as soon as they met.
Zhou Lin put his arm around her shoulders, whispering soothingly, "I’ve already asked the doctor, Dad is just upset, there’s nothing else wrong."
"And the house..."
"I’ll handle it."
Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip slightly, her feelings mixed, if only he had been this considerate before.
Unfortunately, they could never return to how things were.
"Not happy?" Zhou Lin noticed.
Cheng Zhiwei shook her head slightly, a faint smile on her face, "You have to trouble yourself for me again."
"Why be so formal?" Zhou Lin felt a pain in his heart; he didn’t like her formalities.
Zhou Lin found the best lawyer, and the day he arrived, he immediately filed an appeal, suing Cheng Can and Cheng Zhiwu for fraud.
They were indeed fraudsters, and with substantial evidence, Cheng Can and Cheng Zhiwu stood no chance.
Ultimately, the property transfer was declared invalid.
Cheng Can caused a scene in the hospital, cursing Cheng Shang as a thankless wretch, accusing him of living comfortably and ignoring the younger generations of the Cheng family.
Cheng Shang had long seen through her character and was indifferent, even demanding that she return the moved furniture, or else he would continue to report to the police.
With Zhou Lin’s people watching, the furniture and appliances were moved back; Cheng Shang gave everything to Cheng Rong as he had promised.
Besides, those items had only been in Cheng Can’s home for a few days, and he found them an eyesore, so he simply didn’t want them anymore.
Guo Cuihua was going to buy new ones, but Zhou Lin had already arranged for someone to get everything in place, with all the furniture and appliances being the best.
In private, Guo Cuihua secretly asked Cheng Zhiwei if she would forgive Zhou Lin if he changed for the better.
Cheng Zhiwei thought of those two photos, shook her head, "No matter how gently he acts, at his core, he remains the same person."
She wouldn’t waver in her decision to leave because of such gentleness.
With Zhou Lin there, the Cheng family’s issues were resolved quickly.
Cheng Can made a fuss twice more, but Zhou Lin had her deeds spread all over the city, and unable to bear it, she eventually moved to the countryside.
Back at home, Guo Cuihua had prepared a table full of good wine and dishes, and Cheng Shang also gave Guo Cuihua a gift, which she accepted and forgave Cheng Shang.
Just after dinner, a knock on the door sounded.
Guo Cuihua hurriedly said, "I’ll go get the door, you guys keep eating."
When the door opened, the bald man called out to Guo Cuihua, "Mom."
Guo Cuihua was baffled, turned to look at her daughters, and upon seeing Cheng Zhiyin, she suddenly remembered who the man at the door was.
It was Lin Jun.
The man Cheng Can had introduced as a potential match.
Guo Cuihua didn’t have a good impression of him, but still invited him in to clear the air, brewing some tea for him.
